mikelgabe - Tucson
Played this course for the 2nd time ever on 7/18 as part of a scramble event. Even though it was humid, the July temperatures were a very nice change from the 100+ degree temperatures in Tucson. This is a Gary Panks designed course, so that means bunkers off the tee, and more bunkers protecting the greens. The course was in very nice shape. The fairways were lush and green, the "rough" was cut to about 2" so there isn't really a problem playing from off the fairway. This is the newer of the Antelope Hills courses, and although it runs through a housing area, you never feel crowded or in danger of driving the ball into someone's yard. There is a nice mix of short and long par 4's. There are very few forced carries off the teebox. Panks did a nice job on a couple of holes of creating blind tee shots to put a little anxiety into the 1st time course player, but there's really plenty of landing area beyond the blind spots. The par 3's are a bit on the short side, with the longest being only 213 yards and the shortest playing 151Y. With the exception of #12 the par 5's are pretty reachable in two so there are plenty of chances for birdies. All in all, this is a nice course for a muni. Nothing special, but you won't leave thinking you didn't get your money's worth!
