Played with Uncleddboy23 December 26 with a 1030 tee time. Course was in very good condition. Greens ran fast and true, few if any bumps, greens tend to be quite big. Tee boxes generally good. Fairways were lush with few if any bare spots. Rough was generally good, with a few bare spots. Bunkers were good perhaps a bit inconsistent but generally good. Pace of play was good, did the front 9 in just under 2 hours, but the back 9 slowed a bit, still done in about 4 hrs 15 minutes so a good pace for a very popular and busy public course. Rates are excellent, especially if you get a City of Phoenix golf card for $100 rate is about $35 during week. It is a decent design/layout and definitely worth playing.

Overview: Played probably the best of the Phoenix municipal golf courses on Tues 12/27 with bmcnicoll and 2 of his friends. Aguila is a Gary Pank's designed course that opened in 1999 and sits near the base of South Mountain in the southwest part of Phoenix. Aguila is arguably the best golf value in the Phoenix area with a walking rate of $40 and a riding rate of $55 (with the Phoenix golf card). The course has great views of South Mountain and downtown Phoenix.

Course: Nice clubhouse with a restaurant and pro shop. The clubhouse faces the 9th and 18th greens situated around a shared lake with views of South Mountain off in the distance ... a very nice setting. I have not played Aguila in a long time, and I forgot on how much I like the course design and layout. We played the silver tees at a little over 6400 yards. The layout included a couple of nice short par's 4 mixed in a with a couple of longer ones.
Even with all of the play that Aguila gets, the course was in good shape. The fairways were over seeded, and the rough was dormant Bermuda except on 9 and 18 where it was wall to wall over seed. The sand in the bunkers were good and all of the bunkers were raked. The greens were receptive and rolled in true. Pace of play was about 4:20 - 4:25, which I thought was not bad at all for an afternoon tee time during the Phoenix high golf season.

Summary: Brian, thank you for the invite ... I always enjoy playing with you! It was great meeting Howie and Ron and I enjoyed the afternoon of golf. Aguila is a great golfing value in the Valley of the Sun, and should be considered when visiting Phoenix. Happy New Year to the GK community!! Wishing everyone the best in 2023!

Played Dec. 27th, with GK'er UncleDaddyBoy23 and 2 of my buddies from up north (Canada). One of them is a PHXGolf card holder so he got us a great rate of $40 or $55 with cart. I was very pleasantly surprised with this track. We played from the Silver tees 6403 yrds S 124, R 70.1, it would be nice if they had combo tees cuz next down were 5952. The course is in great shape, considering the amount of play this course gets, there were very very few ball marks on the greens. The greens were fairly fast especially with the grain, ran smooth and fairly true. South Mountain has an influence on the breaks. The fairways too were in excellent shape with 9&18 cart path only (for the most part) as the "rough" was over-seeded as well on those 2 holes. Tee boxes were level, a few divot marks on the par 3's some were sanded in others not. Rough was good unless you got way off line then it can be pretty bare, bunkers were in good shape (rake them after guys!!) with lots of good sand in them. Water comes into play on five holes. Front 9 is a decent nine, and the back has some really different and interesting holes. Glad I played with people who knew the course. All the staff were good, bev cart was around lots....possibly because 2 of the 3 in the group in front of us were loading up on beer all the time. POP was said to be 4;20 and it was, if not a bit under that. I don"t think we saw a Marshal at all, but could be wrong. This is definitely worth playing and I would certainly play it again!! Was really great to golf with UncleDaddyBoy 23 again, we had a great time enjoyed the course and the company.

Played an afternoon round with a golf now hot deal. Course had come out of overseeding and the fairways were in good shape. Greens rolled true. 90 degree rule on carts so less walking which is always good for me. Course played a bit longer as drives tended to have less roll as the fairways were softer. I've played all the Phoenix City courses now except Papago and Aguila was the best I've played.

Just have to put a plug in for this course, perhaps the most overlooked course in the PHX metro area. It has become one of our favorites from the huge portfolio of courses we have access to here. As one of my playing partners puts it, this course checks all the boxes. Conditions are generally excellent year round (including bunkers, no small detail in the desert), the setting is beautiful with the Estrella Mountains as a backdrop, there is little development near the course. It is a very walkable course and a terrific Gary Panks design. They have a better than average practice facility. There is a new concessionaire onsite that runs a good restaurant and on course service. Finally, it is one of the very best values around, right now it is only $24 to walk, $10 more to ride.

Finally getting back to playing after a busy season. I chose a course I enjoy and that is fun. Rate was $25 with a cart at 1130.

The course was basically empty with a few people out. I didn’t run into anyone and saw no one behind me.
The course was in $25 shape. Not great but not unplayable. The greens were consistent throughout the round. It was definitely worth the rate and the fact I haven’t played in months made it fun. I wouldn’t go out of my way to play but you could do worse for $25.

I played this morning, teeing off just after 7:00 a.m. The starter suggested I go off on the back nine to avoid the crowds on the front. It was my first time here and I thought it was nice for the $36 I paid to ride.

Lush grass coverage in the fairways and rough with some bare spots near the cart paths and drive off areas. Lots of roll out on the fairways. The rough was about an inch and a half deep Bermuda grass, but pretty easy to hit from.

The greens were semi-firm and rolled nice and true. Speed was around 9 to 10, getting quicker as the day progressed. No ball marks or damage to be seen.

Bunkers were nicely raked, medium brown sand and I found it was easy to hit from the two I landed in.

Looked like a great practice area that I didn’t use.

All in all, I would return and play here, especially for the price I paid.

I played Aguila 8/18 around noon. Rate off the website was $20. Municipally run course with the bare essentials in regards to customer service but the employees I encountered were friendly and welcoming.
My expectations were pretty low considering the rate and their tee sheet was wide open. They changed once I got to the practice range. Lots of new grass on the range and good targets.
The course was in the best shape tee to green of any I have played this summer. I understand I don’t play the high end courses consistently but man Aguila was in awesome shape.
Fairways had full coverage of grass with zero bare spots. I was amazed to see that this time of year. Greens had been punched recently but putted wonderful and were receptive of well struck shots. Sand traps were awesome. Soft fluffy sand in all the bunkers I was in. You could actually make a swing and not worry about the club bouncing off hard packed dirt.
Overall, this is a course to play given conditions. Not a fancy, high end course but man great conditions.

Played 10/29. 1:22p twilight tee time for $37.75. It's been a while since I played this course. The course is a nice layout and is one of the better city munis. It's got nice practice facilities. ( Small bucket $5, large $10). Not much in the way of outside service but they do have a beverage cart.

Aguila is in good condition right now. They over seeded the tees, fairways, and greens. They are letting the rough go dormant, but the hot weather has kept it green. There is some thicker clumpy rough around the greens. It can give you some tricky lies. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Greens were soft and medium speed. Probably a 10. Sand traps were in good condition.

I think this course is one of the better values to play in the winter season for under $50
