This review will be an all encompassing review of the past few times I've played here as my best friend works here and we've been able to get out and play 3 to 4 times in the past few weeks. In general from my experience this course's staff is well present, three instructors with plenty of cart-assistants and pro-shop attendees as well. The COVID-19 adjustments this course has made is limited with basically the bare minimum of pool noodles in all holes and remote service for drinks and food. The interior is still rather packed considering the awareness and warnings behind this novel virus. So if you're looking for courses who have improvised and limited the exposure to any staff and other golfers this course should be avoided.

The course itself is in great shape. The greens are well manicured with an absence of obscene pitch marks and accept any sort of approach shot with ease. The fairways are lush and lined with an aesthetically pleasing mowing pattern, my ball sits up fairly well with no debris when the fairway is found. The rough surroundings of the fairways and greens are limited to about 10-15 feet on every hole and plays about 2 inches thick consistently. Outside of the rough it can be pretty hit or miss. There's plenty of waste areas where desert shrubbery has grown in notably expansive since the photos last submitted for this course on greenskeeper.org . The tee boxes (there's four different tee boxes) were all very clean and absent of severe divot damage.

This course has a distinct desert links feel to it that's well thought with design and playability. Some tee shots are rather straight forward while others will make you have to gain local knowledge or playing experience to get the right line. The front nine has some strategic beasts of holes but nothing that isn't playable. The most fun aspect of this course is that wind really does affect every shot when it's above 10 mph. There's no residential housing near the Bear course with only a commercial lot and roads/canal adjacent to about 4/5 holes total. This course is fun and playable with tough challenges coming in the style of normal links golf, blind tee shots, blind approach shots, tightly mown green complexes and pot bunkers. It's not the toughest course to play, it's not in the pristine Arizona resort conditions however it's a good time.

This course has some pricing situations to sort out for sure, there's some customer service aspects that should be addressed especially during this pandemic situation we're in of 2020 and there's a few outlying intricate details this course needs to adjust HOWEVER I'm not saying this to keep anyone away ...just be aware.

I'd recommend this course as the facilities are good (not great) and the course is a unique layout on a rather flat farm/desert landscape in south Chandler...but if you prefer resort/target golf or casino level service for your golfing experiences you should look elsewhere.

Attention fellow Arizonians, Bear Creek is in terrible condition, every green is in horrible condition, I have never played on worse greens in my 25 years in Arizona. No warning from the pro shop on green conditions, every one complaining when they finished the round. I will never play this course again, sad to say because it is a fun track.

Played the Bear with a hot deal from Golf Now of only $10 at 11:08 am on June 3. Never played here but was very pleased with the overall experience. Now, this "complex" as they call it (fair assessment) sits a few blocks away from Ocotillo so if you have the dough, that is still the better play. However, pulling up I noticed how separated the course and clubhouse is from the street of E Riggs Road. The customer service was amazing! If only I remembered the great lady's name that welcomed me as I walked in I would give her a shout out. She asked me my name, gave a few good jokes, and seemed to read the puzzled look on my face as I am new here and gave me the whole layout of the complex within two minutes without being confusing at all! She knew her stuff!

The course itself is not overwhelming or too complex, however as it is a links style course it can play deceivingly. So many holes, I looked back from the green and asked myself "Why did I choose a fade instead of a low draw" or "Why didn't I play it high instead of a runner". Courses like this can be so great for all talents because a bad player can get a few great magical bounces as the good player can hit what seems to be a great pinseeking shot and it falls off the false front. I loved it. The most interesting thing about this course is how intertwined all the holes play along each other. A strong wind can make a par 5 play like a par 4 while you turn around and play a par 4 like a par 5. And then, the same huge hill you chose poorly on one hole may help you out on the approach shot next time.

My feeling for the course really became stronger when I noticed what the finishing holes were. Never change it! A short par 3 that can be played aggressively even with a false front, then a reachable par 4 (as long as you play from the correct tees though!) that has a pot bunker to the front left that isn't bad to be in ;) , a very long par 3 that tops out at about 230 that has a sloping green that should help out your release, and then an aggressive par 5 to finish. If you're like me, you want some good finishing holes in order to get the blood going when money and lunch is on the line. This course will easily become one of my favorites, however it is tough knowing that Ocotillo is right down the street.

Played on 8-5-11 HOT HOT day which means not a lot of people out on the course. Cruised right thru no water on the course so make sure you bring something to drink the cart girl came around once with last call around 1:30 I teed off around 1:00. Course in good shape fairways were lush (wasnt expecting that) ball didn;t roll much rough was excellant about 2 to 3" thick sand was real good as well. Greens were SLOW, and bushy ball would not travel smooth. Played here quite a lot in the past and the greens were never that good so just because the fairways look good you can almost expect the greens to have the grass long to keep them green and the ball will roll slow and not online. Nothing real challenging about this course but, still fun and the price is not bad.

Just played July 13..good shape with greenest greens one can expect during a dry mid summer. That said, that also means somewhat slow with lots of grain. It's either that or cut em thin and watch them get spotty. I'd LIKE a happy medium but that doesn't normally happen in the valley summertime until monsoon rains have been about for a few weeks. The rest was good...the links style vegetation was hit or miss...stay in the fairway and you'll always miss, though you surely won't 'miss' it as the fellas lost a couple in some thick areas. Not a fan of slow greens but they were playable, apparently having been aerated about three weeks back. The value was solid and, with no water jugs about the course, 50 cent bottled waters a reasonable price. I'd bring your own drink or two as well.

Played 5-15. Been awhile since I played here. Course in better shape, actually very nice fairways and greens. Nice to play a course not surrounded by houses. Not an outstanding layout but better than most subdivision courses. Trees there have grown enough to help define holes. They have planted more trees, should have done this long ago. I think it was supposed to be a links type course, originally had tall grass for rough.

If you spray it a little, no problem, your either in another fairway or the desert. The desert is not to bad. You can find your ball, and you'll probably have a reasonable lie. The rough is dormant bermuda. Chipping & pitching out of it takes some getting used to. The greens held good shots & rolled smooth. Sand traps were consistent & had enough sand. Service was good. Posting some photos.

Plyayed over the 2007 Christmas Holiday. Everything was backed up due to a morning frost delay. They did there best to get everyone out as soon as possible. This did cause slow play however. Overall we injoyed our round of golf. I would go back again but would try to avoid the busy Holiday week.

the course is in excellent condition with many recent improvements to the entire facility, definitely worthy.
