Played the course on the 8/14. Fairways and greens were in terrific shape for this time of year. Number 17 green is being worked on, but other than that, the course is great. Course played really long because of the recent rain in the area. This has to be one of the best values in the Phoenix area. It was under $50.

Booked a Teeoff.com time for $50 this weekend. I had read the reviews for this place and they all seem to love it so I gave it a shot. I arrived and the staff was very nice providing everything I needed to get my round started. When i saw the pictures online I was expecting this course to be out in the desert by itself but that is not the case. Most of the holes have houses around them but not really in play. I also expected a lot more elevation changes but that was also not the case. I did enjoy playing here but was a little let down on my expectations of the layout and geography.

As for the course it is in good shape right now. From tee to green everything is mostly lush and a pleasure to play from. The rough is not fully converted to summer shape and is a mixture of colors. This wasn't a problem I was just surprised that is wasn't out of its dormancy. Greens were smooth and a good firmness to allow spin. The only thing I didnt like about conditions were the sand traps as they were not well stocked with sand.

Overall if you are in the area I suggest giving it a shot for the right price. The Par 3's are very challenging and IMO the bast part of the course.

One last thing to note was the Cart's they were replaced last summer but the one I had felt like it had all kinds of issues with acceleration and keeping a smooth ride it was almost like a governor kicking in but there is no hills or GPS on the carts. Talking to a resident they said a lot of the carts are crappy like that.

Greens were quick and firm, smooth everywhere. Just about perfect. Fairways are very nice, a few spots are starting to overhead and burnout - expected for summer, but those spots are few and far between. Same goes for the rough.

The bunkers are dry and crusty. Still, they are playable, ball sits up more than normal.

Really fun track to play. More space in landing areas than you think. But still, you will hit some balls into the desert areas, so bring an extra club for those desert rock shots.

First time playing this course. Really enjoyed the course, as it is enough of a challenge to keep your interest without being too penal. Greens were well protected by rather severe bunkering, which made the approaches very interesting. In my golf life I have never played on fairways as perfect as these were. They were near perfect ! Tee boxes also is great shape. Greens were good, but paled compared to the fairways and condition of the green surrounds. Bunkers were the most disappointing part of the course. Not bad, just not on par with the rest of the course. Rather thin at times.

The staff was great ! Very helpful and accommodating. I totally enjoyed my golf experience here and would play here often if I lived in the area.

Played here last Wednesday, about $70 including cart and taxes. 9:16 tee time. Good check in service at bag drop, pro shop, and starter. POP was 4.5 hours, a little slow for my taste but I got through it okay. The course is in fine condition with lots of grass coverage everywhere. The silver tees were in good condition. Ample room, level, and not too beat up. It was a good distance for our group at 6249 yards, having never played here before. The fairways and rough were also in good condition; I would give them a 7 out of 10. Soft enough to take a divot, but also good roll out on long shots. Nice divot mix in the cart bottles with green sand and seed mixture. The bunkers were a mix of pebbly hard pan with some top sand in the fairway bunkers to nicely raked sand in the greenside bunkers. Greenside bunkers mostly had big lips to carry and could be challenging if your bunker game is not on. I'd rate the bunkers at 6/10. The greens were in great shape. Soft, receptive, and rolling true. They could be considered medium fast. I guess rolling around a 10, plus or minus. I think the practice green may have been faster. I would rate them at 7.5/10. I didn't use the range, but it looked nice. Overall, I liked the course and it was a great mix of forced carries, target golf with some generous landing areas and good sized greens. Nice views of the surrounding area and hills. I would be happy to play here again.

This was my main round for the day. I had a 9:50 tee time, prepaid on TeeOff deal time with a promo code. Ended up being about $67 out the door after tax, which is a really good price here this time of year. I was paired with a twosome and we teed off on time. They space the tee times pretty well here and the staff is organized. There was a marshal roaming each nine to keep things moving. We rarely waited on the group ahead and were never pushed by the group behind, so it was a good relaxed 4-hour pace despite it being such a busy day. Can't ask for much better than that. The golf course is in good overall shape, though maybe not quite as nice as I would have expected for March in Arizona. The tee boxes were great. The overseeded fairways were excellent and easily the highlight of the conditions. I always had very nice lies. The rough is semi-dormant bermuda. It's cut down, but just enough to grab your clubs especially on touch shots around the greens. I was in a few bunkers. The sand was raked and maintained, but most of the bunkers had plenty of pebbles in the mix. I'll just never get Arizona bunkers and why even some of the nicest courses will have this type of sand. I was also a little disappointed in the greens. They were fairly soft and receptive and rolling well at medium speeds. However, many were pretty pock-marked with old ball marks and every previous hole cut from probably the past month or two was overwhelmingly visible. Hard to describe and they didn't really affect anything, but circles everywhere and it was to the point of distraction at times. The old holes were so much more noticeable than any other course I've ever played on, so I can't help but note that here. The Golf Club of Estrella offers a very good layout that requires accuracy and also length at times. Most tee shots are relatively forgiving, but the greens are tough and the bunkering is downright evil in places. The greens are pretty small and oddly shaped, so you have minimal room to work with around where each pin is placed. The layout is less dramatic than I expected with only a few significant changes in elevation, but then each nine finishes very strongly with some of the best holes on the course (especially holes 9, 16, 17 and 18). Definitely one of the best courses on the west side of the valley, but I'd personally rank it behind Wickenburg Ranch, Quintero and both Verrado courses based on my experiences.

Played on Thursday, 5/18 with tee times at 12:04/12:12 due to being 5 of us. Paid $38 booking online. It's a bit of a drive from Phoenix, about 50 minutes to the southwest, but worth it.

Played on Thursday, 5/18 with tee times at 12:04/12:12 due to being 5 of us. Paid $38 booking online. It's a bit of a drive from Phoenix, about 50 minutes to the southwest, but worth it.

Customer service was great. Bag drop guys loaded the carts, quick check in, friendly staff, and a phenomenal drink cart which was around 5 times. Starter let us out early and as a 5some, since the there wasn't anyone behind us except a 3some (they played through on 8) in the next 4 tee times.

Tee boxes were level and relatively divot free. Fairways were wide and carpet like lush. Rough was cut just a bit longer to give definition. I did not like the bunkers. Sand was heavy in deep bunkers, just made it difficult for me to get out. Greens were firm and smooth, some roll after shots into them. Speed was close to fast.

Loved the course! I had not heard of it and wasn't on my trip radar until a few weeks ago, and I booked it mainly because of the price. Absolute gem. Catching it after the prices went down but still not hot helped a lot. I recommend it at the price I got, a steal.

Overview: Golf Club of Estrella is located in the community of Estrella Mountain Ranch in Goodyear, Arizona. Goodyear is in the southwest part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The course was built in 1999 by Jack Nicklaus Junior and is a desert type layout that has some forced forced carries off the tee and into some of the greens.

Clubhouse and Pro Shop: Not a big clubhouse and pro shop and it's pretty straight forward with its amenities. A very nice outdoor seating area with shade and 2 fire pits.

Practice Area: Players can hit from both sides of the range, and they rotate it on a consistent basis. Today we hit practice balls from the back part of the range. The hitting area was very nice ... lush overseeded rye grass and the practice balls were Callaway. There is a nice chipping area and 2 practice putting greens. One of them by the practice range and the other is right by the first tee. Great idea to have a practice putting green right by the first tee (just like Rams Hill).

Golf Course: Pleasantly surprised in the condition of the course. Tee boxes were a little thin and fairly level, but the fairways were in very good condition ... probably the best condition that I have ever seen them in. Greens were smooth and they had a lot of grain in them. They do not overseed the greens because they changed to a different strand of Bermuda about three years ago. They did this because there is a tremendous amount of salt content in the irrigation water and the overseeded rye grass would practically die in the winter months because of the high salt content. There is nothing worse then paying $139 to play golf and the greens are terrible. Very strange to have a lot grain in the greens out in Arizona, so it takes a little time to read and understand the roll of the greens.

Final Thoughts: Golf Club of Estrella is a desert style course, but the fairways are fairly wide and offer a good mix of holes. The signature hole is the par 3 17th hole that is 176 yards from the copper tees (6733 yards for the course) and 157 yards from the silver tees (6249 yards for the course). It is one of my favorite holes in golf because of the backdrop behind the hole is the Estrella Mountains. You will enjoy this course if you are in the Phoenix area!!

Sand traps are well maintained, but have dense sand,...so use your lob instead of sand wedge. They use a different grass here on the greens than other courses in the area. Your ball won't make much of a mark landing on them,..but they are not hard and fast and roll smooth. However, I had a hard time reading the breaks. I read more break into most of my putts than there was.
