My group got out to Troon North Pinnacle for a 1:03 tee time. The rate was $69 utilizing the Troon Summer card. It was my first time playing the course and I was excited for the experience.
Check in was smooth with great customer service all around. Grass range was big but not a lot of grass to hit off with the amount of play going on. Practice areas were all in good shape.
I feel Pinnacle was a challenging course from the gold tees we played and being the first time playing the course. I think playing a second or third time would result in knowing more where to hit and how to play the holes a little better. The course has a great GPS system showing you the layout of the holes but it doesn't make up for experience. I liked the variety of holes and the fact you could play each hole a little different. Great scenery and views throughout the round.
Course conditions were good save for the greens. They were very soft and accepting of approach shots but each green was riddled with ball marks, both fixed and unfixed. They made putting a challenge as did the subtle breaks in the greens. Fairways were good save for a few dried spots but not bad. I expected the course to be more lush considering the rain we have recently had but still in good summer conditions. Overall conditions were good for the price.
I don't think you can go wrong with choosing Pinnacle right now given conditions.

Overview: Troon North Golf Club is a 36 hole resort in Scottsdale, Arizona ... composed of the Monument Course and The Pinnacle Course. While the Monument Course is considered the "signature" course at Troon North, the Pinnacle Course was designed by Tom Weiskopf in 1996 to complement the Monument Course. The Pinnacle Course provides a little bit more of a links type feel with a continuous layout that returns to the clubhouse only after the 18th hole. Troon North has been a fixture in the Scottsdale golf scene for 30 years and is one of the original true "desert" golf experiences in the Valley of the Sun.

Clubhouse: Promptly greeted by a player assistant when I drove up to the bag drop. Was taken care of smoothly and efficiently when I checked in at the pro shop and was quickly taken care of by the outside service team when I went outside to get my cart. In my opinion, the clubhouse has not really changed in the past 15-20 years and is due for an update. Everything was clean but it's time to give the clubhouse a new look.

Course: Was excited to play the Pinnacle Course because it has been closed for summer maintenance since 6/1. The course had just re-opened last week and I was looking forward to see what type of shape the course was in because of the record breaking heat that we have had this summer in the Phoenix metro area. I was not disappointed at all. As with most courses, the fairways had a little amount of casual water due to the amount of water that has to be placed on them to keep them in good shape, but the bermuda grass was thick and lush and except in a few spots was not brown at all. Bottom line ... they were in great shape.
The bent grass greens were smooth, rolled true, were of medium speed and were very receptive. Each green had only a few pitch marks that were not repaired, but it was understandable because of the amount of water that needs to be placed on bent grass greens to keep them alive in the desert during the summer months. The Pinnacle Course and Cascata are some of the best greens that I have putted on in the past couple of years. I was in only one bunker and the sand was of very good quality and was easy to hit out of.

Final Thoughts: Troon North, as stated earlier, is one of the standards when people think of when they discuss true desert golf. Tees are perched on pedestals above the fairways, but you must navigate the fairways that run through desert. There are numerous forced carries to target landings in the fairway and/or green complexes. Some of my favorite holes were the par 5 5th hole that has a split fairway choice after your tee shot, the uphill par 3 8th hole that has narrow green complex and finally the par 4 10th hole that is framed in the distance by Pinnacle Peak. The Pinnacle Course is a must play when you come to the Valley of the Sun.

Greens were fantastic. Firm, but held shots and ran true at a touch above medium.
Fun layout. Beautiful hole designs. Many short par 4s that driver is too much club and so can force to play a variety of shots. Most holes are surrounded by homes. Definite recommend.

Went out Friday night on Pinnacle with coworkers. We tried to walk on and didn't get out until 4. It was actually packed and playing slow. We cut back and flew then had a great time.

Went out Friday night on Pinnacle with coworkers. We tried to walk on and didn't get out until 4. It was actually packed and playing slow. We cut back and flew then had a great time.

The course re-opened from maintenance and is in surprisingly good shape. The front nine was in excellent shape. The back nine hadn't recovered as well.

Greens were great. Perfect fast speed. Unfortunately a lot of the divots had burned out and were dead. So there a lot of brown spots and dirt spots from the divots. Aside from the visual look. Greens were great. Rolled well. Little dried out for summer to be expected.

Fairways weren't as nice. The divots are drying out and dying at this time so there's a lot of divot damage in collection areas. Some areas have dead dried out areas. But mostly great fairways this time of year.

Edges of the green complexes have dried out areas and patchy grasses. Burned, dried out yellow edges of bunkers. Typical summer conditions.

Bunkers are always great here. Tee boxes have dried out divots, yellow area.

I was surprised how great of shape the course is for this time of summer. An amazing course, but it is definitely Troon North with summer conditions.

There is still signs of verticut but they did not have any effect of putts. Plenty of sand in the bunkers. Rough was up a little but still easy to hit out of. Customer service is very good and saw the cart girl several times

Played here last Friday. Weather and price were a dream come true. Freak cold spell during summer here in Phoenix. Was actually cold in the morning.

First time playing the Pinnacle side, and I have to say I prefer the other side better. I think the mountain holes push the other side over the top. However between the two it is definitely personal preference. The pinnacle is a much more mature course that blends more naturally into the surroundings. It requires a touch more accuracy as the holes wind through the terrain. Few holes allow driver and being in position is most important here. The Pinnacle providers a much more classic refined desert course vs the more extreme Monument side.

Conditions were pure. Fairways were carpet. A few muddy sections from the rain but the rest was near perfect. Greens were rolling true. Some holes had some divot damage from the heat but near perfect greens. Could have been a hair faster.

Bunkers are a little coarser here but extremely consistent and plenty of sand.

Only downside were a few of the tee boxes were lumpy / uneven.

Played 06/29 Course is in good shape. Tee Boxes are nice with some divot damage on a couple of par 3 holes. Fairways are good but there was water on several of them. Greens are in good shape. They put some sand on them today (very light dusting). Was told it would probably be gone by tomorrow after they water them tonight. Was in two bunkers and both had plenty of sand in them. Saw the cart girl several times. Excellent service from her filling our cups with ice and throwing in a cold washcloth in the cooler. Very refreshing when it is 100 degrees.

Played Thurs 06/26 After playing the Monument on Tuesday I had high expectations about the Pinnacle. With the exception of seeing little tiny pebbles all over the greens and the greens not looking as nice the course was in great shape. Tee Boxes fairways and rough are in great shape.
POP was 4 hours 15 minutes. Customer service was excellent
