"Played this course on 8/1/2008. During the renovation of the course, the current configuration is the front 9 of Bayonet and the back 9 of BlackHorse. I will review Bayonet's front 9 here, complete with pictures, and the Blackhorse back 9 with pictures on the Blackhorse site. I will start by saying this is the hardest golf course I have ever played. The Bayonet front 9, while not overly long, is very narrow, and the rough is punishing. There are mature trees lining the fairways, and if you're not straight, then beware! The greens are nearly all elevated, and well protected by bunkers. The sand in the bunkers is great! Reminded me of Florida course sand. The greens are the fastest I have ever played on. I could never get a shot to hold, and was caught between trying very high soft lofted shots, or links-style approaches of hitting short of the greens and running the ball up to the hole. Neither approached worked for me here. I am sure that more skilled players than I could make shots hold the greens, but no one in our group was able to do so. It was not uncommon at all to miss a 4 footer and have an 8 footer coming back. The course is in great shape, there is a nice mixture of elevation change, doglegs, long and short holes. This is a course that would best be enjoyed by serious shotmakers, golfers with much better skills than I possess currently."
