Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in slightly over 4H mid day on a GN "Hot Deal". Sunny, windy and in the 80's. Played with Steve and Rafael, both on vacation with their wives riding along as our gallery. COVID-19: Masks only required @ check-in. Restaurant open to go only. No drink cart or water stations on the course. They did have divot mix bottles available. Doodles in the bottle of the cups so the ball can go in and they are now using flag sticks again here. Hilly layout with fairways framed by mature oak trees. Few level lies anywhere on this layout. Most fairways are generous in size and the greens are very large is a common theme. Tees mostly nice with good coverage and well maintained for divots. Some could use leveling. Fairways are nice to play from. Mostly lush and the ball usually sits up. Rough is a mixture of grasses and thick enough to make longer clubs difficult. Mowed down and lusher closer to the fairway. Thinner the farther you got from the fairway, all the way to hardpan if you get off in the oaks. Sand traps had thick, good quality sand and were very well maintained. Large, undulating greens were smooth, medium fast and they held irons well. Some of my favorite greens to putt on. Very courteous maintenance personnel on this course, they routinely stop if within 100 yards of a golfer. The customer service was very good. Basic carts do not have GPS. Challenging layout in nice condition. Recommended.

Ventured out to Hunter Ranch yesterday to play with Sal, Alex, and Robert. We had a 7:50 tee time and payed rack rate which I deem fair for the conditions. Not much to add to Sal's review but I really enjoyed the course layout and challenge.

? Fairways were lush and cut perfect allowing great cushion for your shots with ample roll out.

? Rough was mostly lush and long in length which helped keep shots from going ob many times.

? Greens were firm and medium/fast. I believe we only saw one shot with spin on it all day and that is rare because I love to spin shots. Flags were taken out but most of the holes you could see the PVC raised cup plus the score card lets you know what sector the pin would be on each hole.

? Tee's were fine and I didn't notice anything to complain about.

? The sand I was not a fan of, the consistency was that of beach sand real heavy and soft making it hard to play precision shots

Overall if you are within 2 hours of this course its worth a play.

Played here today (4/26) as part of my GK Cup match against both Rob and Matt. We ended up with a picture perfect Sunday, with temperate climate and almost no wind. This was my first time and the website does have a wonderful (and accurate) drone video of the course layout, which helped. I was pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the course: conditions, layout, staff, COVID-19 safety measures, and setting. Conditions are just about the same as Alex laid out when he played the week before so this will be brief.

Tees: Played blues and for the most part, they were in good shape, with occasional turf being chewed up.

Fairways: Excellent shape considering the recent heat wave. No bad lies for me and the run offered on drives was fair.

Rough: Penal at time but really was stands out are all the hazards and native areas that can make for some tough golf.

Sand: Only in two bunkers and both had plenty of good sand (more beach like but I enjoy that). No rakes due to COVID but no bad lies.

Greens: Excellent shape with very minimal divots. Speed today was med-fast but I don't remember them being lightning quick. Breaks were tricky at times but not overly confusing.

ETC: Carts available so no need to walk this hilly course. Staff was friendly, even as they were bare bones due to COVID. Loved this course and would make a trip out here again!

After watching competitive Ball Room dancing (with commentary in Japanese no less) and trimming the front yard with a 60 degree lob wedge this past weekend all in the name of “excitement” to satisfy my need for sports and activity, I finally got out and played REAL golf!

Played Hunter Ranch mid-morning and the place was packed! Bogeygolf did fantastic job describing course conditions. Greens are excellent right now. Very smooth and rolling at perfect medium-fast pace. Greens were easily rated at a 9 today.

As mentioned there are no flags in the cups which is a bit tricky trying to get yardage. Luckily, I have an app on my phone that gives me decent GPS yardage to the middle of the green and Hunter Ranch has pin placement charts on their scorecard so it’s fairly easy to figure out where the pin is. That and we waited on every shot so you could see where the group in front was on the green as the got close to the hole.

Cups are raised 2” above ground for COVID-19 precautions.

Fairways may have been the best I’ve every seen them him. Perfectly lush and a nice beautiful green color. I rated the fairways at an 8 but they were close to a 9 as well.

Tee boxes were level but they are starting to get chewed up a bit with all the play the course is seeing. But they were still on the acceptable level.

I was in four bunkers today and three of them were great. The one “bad” bunker had a thin layer of sand on top of some hardpack dirt. There are no rakes in the bunkers but I managed to avoid other tracks and everyone did a decent job using their foot to smooth out the sand as best as possible. I think next time I’ll bring my bunker rake from home to use and help smooth out the traps.

POP was a little over 4.5 hours. Being one of the only games in town and the weather being perfect and the course in great shape, it’s understandable everyone is going to Hunter to play.

Customer service was good. They had a full staff of 4-5 people helping organize everyone. There were easily 15-20 people on the practice putting green waiting to tee off and staff kept everyone organized and adjusting groups to better suit everyone’s playing style/ability.

I chose again to walk as it was such a glorious day and I knew we weren’t going to set any speed of play records. The others in my group all rode and they mandated single player per cart.

Played 4/8/20 @ 1150am on a teeoff.com deal. This is supposed to be the sister course to La Purisima, but this is in much better shape... Tee boxes were great- all of them were level. Fairways and rough were really nice unless you got way off line and then it’s a crap shoot. The native vegetation is pretty gnarly. The course is surrounded by vineyards and everything is green because of the recent rain- it’s a pleasant sight. Sand traps were nice, a little firm because of the rain but at least you can get your club under the ball. Greens were excellent! They’re firm but fair and held short iron shots well. The only knock I have is that there are no flags! There’s a hole there, but it’s 2 inches above the ground. You’re putting into a barrier instead of a hole. Good luck trying to use a laser range finder! Customer service was awesome and they’re doing a wonderful job with all that’s going on right now. Overall it was a great experience- except for the missing flags...

Trying to book a tee time today proved a bit difficult with the rain, course closures and aerations all going on at once. Managed to get out and walk Hunter Ranch this morning and avoided the rain. Course was very wet. No issues with the greens as they were dry and rolled smooth at a normal pace. However the fairways were soggy. No roll whatsoever and even though the recent rains have “greened” up the fairways they are still considered winter thin. Most of Hunter Ranch is on rolling hills which helps drain the course to make it playable.

It’s been a while since I walked Hunter and it’s very doable but there are some steep little short climbs to tee boxes etc. Other than that it’s not bad at all. Being that it was CPO, I was more than happy to walk.

Overall, conditions given the rain were very decent. I was only in one sand trap and it wasn’t too bad. Rough was definitely taller and thicker than last time I was here a couple of weeks ago. POP was under 3 hours. No one in front of me so I just cruised along.

Hunter Ranch was not quite as well maintained as a few months ago, but still excellent. Green were very smooth and very fast. I played the senior combo tees that allow me to carry hazards I otherwise could not. Two bunkers were out of play doing maintenance, but I saw no maintenance workers all day. Hunter Ranch recently sold and the jury’s still out whether the quality golf will continue ...they were giving a “today’s special” membership for a $50.00 discount. I should have bought it, as the price included two free rounds. The membership was $149.00 and I paid $70.00 to play today. If you play Hunter soon, ask them about it.

Played Hunter Ranch mid morning with Mnielson. Weather was perfect. Sunny in the low to mid 60’s with absolutely no wind. Course was in overall nice shape given it’s winter time. Greens are a perfect blend of challenging yet not over the top ridiculous. Greens were soft, easily holding well struck approach shots. There were some unrepaired divots as Mnielson mentioned. Greens rolled at the perfect medium-fast pace.

Fairways were decent. A little thin in some areas but nothing that affected shots. Tee boxes were probably the week link. Several divots on most tee boxes and a number were unlevel. I’d say it’s time for a complete overhaul on the tee boxes.

Sand traps were actually nice. It seems that everyone is on the bandwagon to improve the bunkers. As far as POP, We were the slow group. One of the guys we were paired with was struggling all day long and it made for a 4.5 hr round.

Overall, the conditions at Hunter Ranch today were a tad under their normal very good standards, but it is still well worth playing.

Played Alex in a match today. Despite the early frost warning, playing at almost noon was very comfortable. The course is in very good condition. Greens were fast but true. There were several unrepaired divots on the greens. I don't blame the course...we had a great match, trading wins back and forth. We both birdied number 10, I birdied number 8 and Alex birdied number 17 to take the money necklace back. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially the "Hot Deal" Alex found. I'd do that again in a heartbeat!
