Played 10-24-19 on there mid day rate for $42 to walk, teeing off the back nine and finishing in a little over three hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, level, lush and minimal divot damage on par threes(Blues). Fairways were in good condition with a little bit of yellowing but overall nice lies and decent roll out. Rough was in good shape, 1-2 inches and easy to hit from, get outside of the main rough and you are on hardpan under the oak trees on quite a few holes. Was in two greenside bunkers that were in really nice shape with a good layer of sand. Greens are some the best around and they didn't disappoint today, rolling very smooth at medium/fast pace and holding shots very well. Always love playing this course, just wish it wasn't three hours away.

Played Hunter Ranch yesterday mid morning on a glorious fall day. Just a quick update on the conditions as the last few reviews give a decent overview of the layout. Greens remain top notch. Rolling fast and smooth. Greens easily held well struck approach shots. I seemed to be on the uphill side of the pin all day making putting a real challenge.

crews were out aerating the skirt areas around the greens on a few of the holes on the front nine. It didn't really affect anything.

Fairways have started to turn brown. My guess is the nights are getting cold enough to trick the grass into going dormant. Even though the fairways are starting to turn brown they usually present a decent lie. Tee boxes were a different story. All of the par 3's were torn up pretty bad. Same with a number of the other boxes. Sand traps were all crusty dirt but manageable to escape from.

Pace of play was around 3 hours and that was hitting 2 balls on the back 9 and even on a few holes on the front 9.

The staff has always been absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Great value, great pace of play, only downside for me is the distance from home. Highly recommend a trip to the Central coast to play Hunter Ranch.

Not a whole lot to add to Nick's last review. He pretty much nailed the conditions spot on. Greens are in excellent shape right now and have the perfect balance between size, speed and undulations to make them fun, challenging yet manageable.

All tee boxes were in great shape (except #14) and fairways presented good roll and lies. Layout is fun and challenging as well. Some water hazards and forced carries to go along with trees (in the fairways no less) that have to be navigated.

POP was whaterver I wanted it to be. Had the course virtually to myself. My game was off a bit so I frequently dropped a second ball to hit an extra shot here and there. Still finished in under 3 hrs

All in all it's a great course with a nice rustic style restaurant. It's worth making the drive up to the "central coast". Course is also in the middle of a great wine region. Golf in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon... sounds like a perfect day.

Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in 3.5H as a single mid day on a GN "Hot Deal". Sunny, fairly calm and in the 80's, excellent golf weather! The tees were mostly well maintained for divots. Some could use leveling and they had good coverage. The fairways are nice to play from. Mostly lush and the ball usually sits up. The rough is a mixture of grasses and thick enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. Lusher closer to the fairway. thinner the farther you got from the fairway. The sand traps had good quality sand and were mostly well maintained. The large, undulating greens were smooth, medium fast and they held irons very well. Some of my favorite greens to putt on. Very courteous maintenance personnel on this course. Few level lies anywhere on this layout. The fairways are generous in size, the rough is mostly mowed down and if you get off in the oaks its hardpan. Hilly layout with fairways framed by mature oak trees. The customer service was very good. Very challenging layout in nice condition. Basic carts do not have GPS. Recommended.

Other than a consistent 10+mph wind, perfect golf weather. Sunny and around 85. The tees were semi lush and most were well maintained for divots. Some could use leveling. The fairways play really nice, mostly lush with a good pad underneath. The rough was fairly lush close to the fairway, and thick enough to mess with you. Thinner the farther you got from the fairway. The sand traps had good quality sand and were well maintained. The large, undulating greens were smooth, medium fast and they held irons very well. Hilly layout with fairways framed by mature oak trees. Few level lies anywhere on this course. The fairways are generous in size, the rough is mostly mowed down and if you get off in the oaks its hardpan. The customer service was very good, right out on #1 tee at my tee time. Very challenging layout in nice condition. Best course on the Central Cal coast IMO. Recommended.

Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in 5H mid day on a GN Hot Deal. Paired up with Ricky, Nate and Clint, all Cal Poly students. Nice guys to play with, they kept things fun. Partly cloudy, breezy and around 80, almost perfect golfing weather. The tees were mostly lush and most were well maintained for divots. Some could use leveling. The fairways play really nice, They have a good cushion and are mostly lush poa annua. The rough was mostly lush close to the fairway, thinner the farther you got from the fairway all the way to hardpan under the many oak trees. The sand traps were nicely raked. However, all the ones I was in were too thin/crusty to be considered good. The large, undulating greens were smooth and putted medium fast. GREAT greens here! They were receptive to holding iron shots. Challenging layout in very nice condition. Easily the best course within at least 50 miles in all directions. Hilly with fairways framed by oak trees. Few level lies anywhere on this course. The fairways are generous in size, the rough is really mowed down compared to what I experienced here this spring. Nice all grass driving range. Busy restaurant on site that many local non golfers eat at. The customer service was good in the pro shop, cart gal out making the rounds. Highly Recommended.

Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in 4.5H mid day on a GN Hot Deal. Matched up with Dave, Nick and Greg, very fun group to play with! Partly cloudy, windy and around 75 made for some challenging conditions. The tees were semi lush, but some could use leveling. Every par 3 needed divot attention. The fairways have a few brown spots but play better than they look. Mostly lush poa annua, nice to play from. The rough was mostly lush close to the fairway, thinner the farther you got from the fairway. Very playable, no longer is there the calf deep clover and wild grass from several months ago. The sand traps had nice quality sand and were excellently maintained. The large, undulating greens were firm, smooth, medium fast and putted great. Best greens I have putted on in awhile. The fairways are generous in size, the rough is mostly mowed down and if you get off in the oaks it is hardpan. Hilly layout with fairways framed by oak trees. Few level lies anywhere on this course. Nice all grass driving range. Good restaurant on site. The customer service was good, right out on #1 tee at my tee time. Challenging layout in very nice condition. Highly Recommended.

Played this course in the AM on June 5th. This is a beautiful and fun track. I received a warm welcome from the men in the pro shop who gave me some tips about the course and got me checked in. I had a little time to warm up before teeing off so went to the practice area. There is a nice driving range, 3 practice greens you can chip to, a sand bunker to hit out of and a putting green. Really nice area to work on your game.
My buddy and I teed off and never caught up to anyone until hole 15. Perfect! Tee boxes were level and in good shape. Fairways were green and cut evenly. The rough has been cut back so not too hard to find your ball. This course is noted for its greens and it did not disappoint. As the sign outside the proshop says - " smooth and fast ". Definitely take some time on the putting green before playing to get used to the speed or you will be 3 putting. POP was 3.5 hrs. Sweet!!! It had been 20 years since I was here last and can't wait to come back again - soon!
