I flipped a coin to decide between golf and a bike ride. Golf won out and I chose Crazy Horse since I hadn’t been there in probably 9-10 months. This place always has good conditions and great customer service. today was no exception. Greens are on the smaller side here. Not as small as Pacific Grove or Del Monte, but close. Greens are mainly single tier. they rolled smooth at a medium fast pace. Greens were a bit on the firm side.

Like most Nor Cal courses, the fairways were damp but decent enough. No complaints on the fairways. Once they dry out completely they will jump up from a 7 rating to an 8 or 9 with no problem. Tee boxes were a bit thin and damp but not too bad. Sand traps were excellent. Nice white fluffy sand. bunkers aren’t very deep do they are pretty easy to escape from given the nice quality sand. rough is about 3” tall and semi-thick but playable.

Carts were 90 degrees and pop was 3 hours which seemed slow being we zipped around the front 9 in just over an hour and then got backed up on hole 10.

Crazy Horse is a great option to play when in the Peninsula.

I haven't played Crazy Horse in several years, during which time they went private and back to public (semi-private?) again. It's out in the country - with city life slowly creeping up to the beautiful agriculture fields surrounding most of the course. It's an easy drive from the south bay or north from Monterey. They clearly upgraded some of the parking and practice areas. There is a monthly membership that is very reasonable. More or less a small but venerable country club feel with a monthly rate, plus food/bev quarterly minimums.

The course is not long, 6100 yards from the blues (69.7/131), but challenging and visually stunning. Lush tees and fairways where your golf ball always appeared to be sitting up and ready for a good strike. Lots of course knowledge is needed here, as there are some elevation changes, semi-blind shots and tree avoidance tee shots where precision is far more important than distance. Bring a laser scope with "slope" as dangers lurk everywhere. The bunkers were perfectly maintained and had fluffy white sand. All that and still the greens were the highlight. The greens are small - almost tiny at times - but rolled fast and true. A good test for speed and line. I didn't feel there was a gimmicky or problem hole on the course and commented to my partners several times how much I liked many of the holes. (As a chronic b$tch er-and-moaner that is a noteworthy compliment btw.) The routing gets a little back-n-forth weird for a while on the back nine, but the planning was spot on and everything worked well once we figured out where we were going.

The restaurant/bar had a "Members Only Today" sign on the door, so that was a little annoying, as you are pretty much out in the sticks with no other options nor was a beverage cart seen on the course; but the golf staff was very courteous and helpful. Price was $120 w/cart for a midday-weekday round (a few bucks more for yellow stripers on the grass driving range), which was probably too much for the course and area, but hell, if you want to try a unique set up, in a beautiful area, with great conditions, play it. It was a very good day at Crazy Horse.

I needed a quick round and Crazy Horse always fits the bill when timed right (early morning or after Noon). I easily got around in 2 hours on this fun track with some unique holes. Layout isn't anything wild yet there are only a couple of been there done that holes. it has some mild Elevation changes as well as a water hazard that comes into play on two holes.

Conditions are above average with the fairways being nice and green throughout. Greens rolled smooth at a medium fast pace. Most greens are single tiered with a modest slope, making them predictable but not boring. Sand traps (I was in 5) all had a nice layer of fluffy white sand. Tee boxes were level with good coverage.

being that I had to pick some stuff up at Lowe's (3 minutes down the road) this was a perfect track (and location) to get in a fun fast round. Also of note, there is a creek running through a few of the holes and it actually has water in it right now after all the rain we had last week.

I had to skip the restaurant this time but it's well worth staying for if you have the time.

Played Crazy Horse this morning with a 7:30 AM tee time. This track is a great hidden gem of the peninsula. Course doesn’t play long but has enough tight tree lined fairways and small greens to keep you honest. Overall conditions were very nice. Greens are still recovering from recent aeration and are a good two weeks out from being fully healed. Having said that they rolled fairly smooth. It was just hard to gauge the speed as some were quite a bit slower than others.

Fairways were nice and green. Some of the fairway’s present a tight lie but nothing to complain about. Tee boxes were lush but there were a couple that had some unevenness to them. A step or two back was all that was needed to find a nice flat area. I managed to avoid the sand traps all day but the sand looked real nice. Maintenance was out raking all of the bunkers and the sand looked nice and fluffy.

POP was a great 2 hours flat and that was taking a couple of extra shots here and there. I was the third group out and both groups let me through right away. Customer service was great as check in was quick and efficient.

Restaurant is open and worthy of sticking around for a bite or a drink post round. Food is average (a good average) but the friendly service is awesome.

Crazy Horse is a locals “good ‘ol boys” club where everyone is super friendly and the conditions are on par with the second tier courses in the peninsula

Rode the Blues (6106/69.7/131) in 4.5H mid day with the SLO Co. Golf Group. $80 prepaid, played with Chris and Pat, both good sticks. Partly cloudy, fairly calm and around 60. Layout reminds me of a mixture of Hunter Ranch and Ojai Valley Inn. Front 9 is hillier and tighter with lots of elevation changes. Back 9 more parkland style. Few flat holes with plenty of mature trees. Nice collection of par 3's. Holes 9/18 share a very wide but thin from front to back green. Tees decently maintained with good coverage. Fairways and Rough both more lush than thin and generally good to play from. Both had good coverage. Traps were excellent. Well maintained with a generous amount of thick sand. Small greens were excellent, they putted great. And many of them are small! Firm, medium fast bordering on fast and smooth. No tiers, but these greens have more than their share of slope. We had several pins placements that anything not babied up to the hole was a great candidate to have a chip coming back. Customer Service was excellent from all encountered. Maintenance staff was oblivious however. Every member of our group backed off at least once when they drove close by as we were on the tee or putting. Basic carts do not have GPS. The small green complexes and all the hills are why the slope rating is high here. Overall, excellent course, highly recommended.

Played 5/1/19 Mid morning the last group (3-some) of a 30 person tournament so POP was the expected 4.5 hours. I think in less crowded conditions this course can be played much quicker. The conditions were excellent and overall attention to detail evident in the club house and proshop areas. No large and extravagant buildings but everything there that you'd expect and more.
Course conditions great. Greens poa annua smooth and medium fast. Smaller in size and consistent with the 1925 design, It's not a long course by today's standards and middle of the green shots will yield a birdie putt of reasonable distance most approaches. Shorter length manageable rough and tight lies in the fairways with valley oak and occasional cypress.
One par 3 on front has a 150 plus foot elevation drop (interesting) and on the back the par 3's share a tee box going in opposite directions which was in the process of being rebuild and the sod was being placed so it should be operational in a week or less. That made 160 and 180 yard holes 90 and 130 with temporary tees.
A course I was unaware of and happy to have discovered. Not as big or famous as the the courses nearby in Monterrey. And no ocean views, but a very enjoyable course and design playable for all levels. A country club feel for sure and I recommend. Happy I played here as it was perfect weather and I scored well.

Had to cancel Friday's round at Spanish Bay due to taking the dog to the vet Thursday after he ate a rock. I so thought it was one of the dozen TP5's he destroyed. Friday was a typical cold wet foggy day. With the dog healed and other commitments taken care of I headed out to Crazy Horse with the wife today. It was an absolutely beautiful day. One so nice that the afternoon wind on the back nine was welcomed to cool things off a bit. I don't play here often but the wife loves it. Crazy Horse is more about the social atmosphere than the golf. Where other clubs in the peninsula don't even allow shorts, it's not uncommon to see people wearing jeans at Crazy Horse. It's a very laid back atmosphere. Having said that. Course is fun and is in excellent shape right now. Greens are small but rolled smooth at a medium slow speed. Greens were firm with pitch shots very hard to stop. Fairways and tee boxes were in absolute near perfect condition. Both were definitely in the 9 range. I was in two greenside bunkers. One was decent and the other was excellent. I've never seen a beverage cart here but the restaurant is always open. If you're looking for a relaxed round after playing a couple of the big peninsula courses then Crazy Horse fits the bill perfect. I don't think I've ever played here on a weekend so I don't know how crowded it gets but my guess is it's still quieter than most peninsula courses.

This is a fun track with great greens. The greens are small but roll smooth at a medium fast pace. Most greens are moderate as far as challange goes with normal amount of undulation. Elevation changes throughout the course add to the fun factor of the track. Hole 5 has a 3-4 story drop on a 175 yard par 3 which is a blast and really makes you think about your club selection.

Course conditions are decent throughout except for the tee boxes. They were in poor shape.

There are several great courses in the Monterey Peninsula to choose from and Crazy Horse makes the bottom of the second tier list of go to courses. At $80 mid-week it's not a steal deal but you will rarely find a crowded course here so if you want to get a quick round in then this is your place.

Also of note is the fact that the bar/restaurant will stay open until the last group has finished and left. That a great customer service touch in my book. You here that Bayonet??

The course is also back to playing its full length after a few holes were shortned due to winter storm damage.

Nonetheless, don't let that stop you from playing here. It's not a factor. The greens are really good and I hear they can get very quick. As others have noted, this course was private a long time and most players are members, but it's open to the public certain hours. I played after a member tournament today as a single. Quick round at 4 hours and would have been even quicker except I caught a couple of groups on the last 4 holes. As others also noted, members are friendly but maybe not entirely used to public play. There is definitely a feel of something a little different. Just the same, this course is really refreshing. When everything around Monterey feels like you need an expense account, this little country oasis just 20 miles away is a pleasure. A great option when considering courses on the way in or out of Monterey. Check them out and support the club. I'll be back.
