Played the Panther course on 3/21. Got to the course trying to walk on and before I could exit my car, someone was on the phone to the pro shop to see if they could get me on. that was awesome customer service. couldn't get on for 2 1/2 hours due to a full schedule (spring break) and i really wanted to play this course so i decided to wait it out at the country's largest golf range in the country. picked up a large bucket and worked on my game then went over to the one of many putting greens and worked on my putting game (i could have went to one of many chipping area as well but did not)

The course was an absolute stunner. I've played both courses and they both are gems. This day, the winds were howling at about 25mph. I hate to play in the wind but I still had a blast. The layout is flawless with enough water, bunkers and fairway undulation to give good players a tough challenge. Not much rough to speak of. The greens were nice and smooth and rolled perfectly.

If you are in the Orlando area, you need to play both courses at Orange County National.

Played Panther Lake on Tuesday PM 5/17. I'll spare you my gushing, perhaps minor hyperbolic review of the facilities and value of the course, see my Crooked Cat review for that! I will say the customer service at OC National is always top notch. We played as a 3some in the afternoon and were scheduled for a 2:30 replay. After our morning round we had lunch and during lunch Nick from the pro shop found me and said there's a chance of bad weather and if we are able to tee off at 1:45, we can get in front of 2 foursomes and have a better chance of finishing the round, rain free. That was awesome recognition by Nick and it turned out perfect. The rain started coming down as we were putting on 18, and escaped nearly unscathed.

Panther Lake is not extraordinarily different than Crooked Cat. The scorecard shows it to be a tad shorter, but it'll play longer. Most of the par 4's are longish and require you to move the ball in different directions, but nearly all the par 5's have a risk/reward element and all can be reached in 2 shots (if you're brave enough). Great collection of par 3's here that will require you to hit 4 different shots with 4 different irons. For example, #4 demands a right-left ball flight with a mid iron, #8 should be played with a left-right, #11 is a 200+ beast over a hazard, and #17 is a wedge to a large green with 3 distinct tiers. Just really good variety.

Definitely recommend both Orange County courses, I don't think I have a favorite although I played better at Crooked Cat, so.... :). Both courses are challenging but fair. A decent ball striker won't lose many balls here, but at the same time there's plenty of trouble. Can't wait to get back here next year.

received email suggesting I play panther lake for $30 (very cheap) June 2014...arrived with my wife who always rides with me but doesn't play. While paying, the lady said total bill was $60..as my wife had to pay $25 for the ride. I have played 20 Orlando courses in the last 3 years and this is first time I have come across a fee for my wife (thought courses in june were trying to attract custom). course was brilliant. loved having a starter, fairways and greens were perfect. cracking course but don't go with the wife

Played on December 7. This course is very good and very playable. Claim to fame is it has the largest Driving range in the US and it has hosted PGA tour Q school several times. Layout was fun and challenging. I like this course better than Crooked Cat.

However, pace of play was poor to bad. Besides the bag drop area the staff in particular management were bad. I won't bash the people but inbox me for further details. Just know before you go you are there for the courses not the service. I truly felt bad for the women in the clubhouse, she was the only person behind the bar at lunch time when 2 course were finsi9hing there morning rounds and starting there afternoon rounds. Needless to say the bar was 3 deep at times with golfers looking for food and drink.

BTW this happened to us last year too and we thought it was a fluke , Guess Not?? next year we go elsewhere.
