Visited Aspen so decided to make the drive to Ironbridge for my first Colorado golf experience. Staff was super helpful, provided brand new Taylormade set of rentals for a family member. Playing on a Sunday morning, we saw a total of 2 other groups the entire round. Fantastic experience being able to enjoy a pristine course without waiting around because the course is slammed (like most California courses now).

Course conditions were excellent. Free range balls on a very nice grass range set the tone for the day. The course is set in a community, but the houses don’t really distract or get in the way of the experience. Beautiful red rock mountainside, pretty wide fairways, and some nice variety of hole layouts made this a memorable course. Tee boxes were in excellent condition, not sure how they stay in business because it looks like no one had played recently. Fairways were firm, providing some nice yardage boosts on drives, especially with the help from the elevation. Greens had been punched a few days prior, but I had no idea until the greens guy told me on hole 8. I couldn’t even tell, had no bearing at all on speed or smoothness of the greens.

Highlight of the course is the last few holes up on top of the mountain. Some awesome blind tee shots, extreme elevation changes from the tee, and forced carries made it totally worth the greens fee. Not a typical course layout I could find in California, so overall I loved the experience. I highly recommend checking out this course if you’re in the area. Excellent quality, fun variety of challenging holes, and doesn’t appear to be too busy- best combination possible for a round of golf.

Played 8/21. Have loved this course since the first time I played it. They have now done some softening and redesign by Tom Lehman. The four holes on top of the mountain (might as well be a mountain as it is 1/4 mile up the path) are now the final four finishing holes. And # 18 is a 603 yard par 5 and you must carry a canyon for your 2nd/3rd shot. Outstanding service at all levels. Condition of the course is superb. Great tee boxes. Fairways are lush with great lies/roll. Playable sand in all traps. Lots of OB, high rough, water and a river to contend with. Greens are fast and large. Very close to Glenwood Springs and on Hwy 82 going to Aspen. Play it by all means if you are in the area.

Played today on another great course here in CO. This is IMO a beautiful course that has the Roaring Forks River running through it. Hard to keep ones concentration with all the great scenery. But I digress. Course is in very nice shape given the time of the year. No tee box issues. Fairways had good coverage and good lies. Rough was brutal and almost impossible to find your ball. And obviously it is lost if your shot is errant and goes into the river (not this time thank you). Traps all playable with good sand. Greens were in good shape and had decent speed. The highlight to this course is the beginning of the back 9. It feels like you are going up 1 mile to get to 10-13. And when you arrive it will be four of the nicest holes you might have played (at least I feel that way). 2 great par 4's. A par 3 hanging on the edge of a cliff and the par 5 13. BTW # 13 is 624 from the back tees. And you also have to clear a HUGE chasm to reach the green. This would be a course a could play everyday if I had the chance. Terrific service and great food. Yes there are some great courses in CO but Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and New Castle have 4 of some of the best. As I have stated before. If you are anywhere near this area, bring your clubs.

Played yesterday. Had not been here since 2014 (my how time flies). This course was designed by Arthur Hills and redone by Tom Lehman, over the last two years. They primarily took the 70 bunkers on the original design and reduced them to 35. I also noticed (at least it seemed that way) they removed a lot of rough, to open up the fairways. This is a public course, located inside a development and one needs to deal with some quirks by the members. They have the first tee time @ 9 AM (nothing like losing revenue) and those are taken by the men's club. They do not open the clubhouse until 8:30. But it pays to know the former GM and off I went at 8:30. The first thing I noticed was? Brand new golf carts, but no GPS? Second thing I found. There are virtually no yardage markers (well there are but you have to search for them)? So short of having your own GPS, you better be good with distance. I found the tee boxes to be level and clean. I found the fairways to have "good" coverage but dirt spots throughout and circles were I believe the original yardage makers were. You did get decent lies but not decent roll. Bunkers were in decent shape, given the time of the year, coming out of winter. Rough was almost an inch high and very hard to find a ball, let alone play out of it. Greens were in good shape (very large) though some better than others. A fun front 9 but mostly flat, with large undulating greens. The fun starts on # 10. You drive up about a mile from the clubhouse to reach it (seriously). 10, 11, 12, 13 are now known as "the lost horizon". An aptly named set of holes, like none other I have ever come across. Four virtually different holes (see pics - new ones to come). The final 5 holes are a decent set of holes as well. Overall, I was not very impressed with the customer service I received this time. Should I go back to the area, I would play Lakota Canyon several times, as well as River Valley Ranch, in Carbondale.

On trip to CO/Utah for a week of golf. Played here today and it has only gotten better since last year. Remodel done by Tom Lehman to "soften" the course up, I was told? In any event, the course is just as spectacular as when I played it in Oct of last year, except this time the weather was much nicer. The staff is 1st class. Holes 10-13 are the jewels of the course and was not disappointed this time either. Nothing better than playing at 5700 feet after playing our CA courses. Hard to believe no one has written a review since my last one? Those of you GK'rs (and you know who you are) in CO go play this course. You will not be disappointed and glad you did. Now on to Lakota Canyon.
