Ended the CO trip here today. One of my favorite Jim Engh courses. The maturity of this course over the years is outstanding. This would be my favorite course in CO if I lived here. Teeing areas wonderful. Fairways great coverage and great roll. No bunkers to deal with but huge mounds which are called hogbacks to deal with. Large undulating greens that will test your putting nerve, skill and courage all round. And they were in great shape. Great customer service. I look forward to going back for many years to play this gem.

Jim Engh is my favorite course designer. So it was great to get back out here after a few years. The course has matured so nicely since my last visit 3 years ago. This is truly one of Engh's best designs IMO. As I said previously it is one course you will either love or hate. No bunkers but huge what they call hogbacks to navigate. Even large mounds in the greens. Greens are large and undulating and had great speed in them, so putting was a challenge. But when isn't it. Fairways had good coverage and lies and the roll was outstanding. Mostly all desert outside of the fairways and some little canyons to navigate as well from tees. Plus while the area looks flat, you are at 5 K feet. I love the back 9 here as it has 3 par 3's and 3 par 5's. An Engh design on most of his courses (Lakota Canyon, Golf Club at Redlands Mesa). The course is about a 45 minute drive from Pueblo but well worth the drive IMO if you are in the area. Short drive from CO Springs as well. But it is a course you won't likely forget after you play it.

I played Four Mile Ranch yesterday, Aug 5, 2018. The course is exactly like the previous reviews. Tee to green it is in amazing shape. They apparently have some sort of watering rights and are able to maintain the course. It is green and lush throughout. If I had to pick a word to describe it, quirky would be it. The greens have multiple "bowls" and will a lot of times reward off line or even bad shots by funneling them back in the direction of the hole. However, there are some greens with a hogs back and if you are on the wrong side a three putt is likely in your future. The driving range has a really nicely manicured grass hitting area to a desert landing area. The putting green is very accurate to the rest of the course's greens. Lots of terrain change and the speed is very close. My pieces of advice are this: Get a yardage book from the starter and read the advice on each hole. You won't hit driver often, maybe hole 16 and definitely 18. There are very wide landing areas if you hit to them and not through them. Also, there are a lot of blind shots into the greens. If you aren't being pushed, drive up to the green and see what you are hitting at. Shots over the berms generally have the green right behind it without much if any room to miss on any side of the generous sized greens. Like the previous reviews said, you will either love the course or hate it. Either way, it is always in amazing shape.

Played June 4. Having played here a few years ago, we wanted to go back and see if things had changed? Not in the least. They have only gotten better as the course has matured. We found the course just as enjoyable and intimidating as several years ago. I find it strange that I am still the only reviewer of this course since 2013? I really have nothing to say, that I have not said in my previous review about the course. If you are in the area and have time to play, do it. This is a course I will continue to try and go back to and play for a long time. Just so unique and different and yes, it is (as I said before) a love or hate type of course, but if you love golf, you will love (IMO) this Jim Engh design.

Played yesterday. Beautiful S CO day and I do not want to play this course in the wind. The course is actually in Canon (canyon) City and it is like no other course you will likely play. It has no bunkers. Designer Jim Engh left the land in its natural state and thus the course has "sand hogbacks" you need to go around or over. Some are as low as 3 feet some are 30 feet and some have greens tucked behind them. Signature hole is a par 5 @ 563 yards with the green blocked by huge rocks. This is one course that will either be a love/hate for some? The course was in great shape. Tee boxes level (some with hundreds of yard drops to fairway); fairways cut and running with large landing areas (no bad lies except in the rough); rough is desert of which you want no part of; greens large shaped bowls and running at 12/13. Carts do not have GPS. Just take the course guide and read it before each hole and the only problem you will have is how you hit it. No clubhouse at present but you can take a cooler with whatever you want or buy it in the trailer. Starter is a great gentlemen and make sure you listen to what he has to say about the course and follow his notes he puts in the guide. Billy the GM; Scott the Superintendent are great and ready with helpful knowledge as well. I have always been impressed with Jim Engh's designs (Golf Club @ Redlands Mesa; Lakota Canyon) and try to play as many as I can. I am never disappointed. Put this course or any of Engh's courses on your bucket list. Pictures will be added by GK staff shortly. Now on to Lakota Canyon.
