The new Titleist AVS golf ball is available at Golf Mart in the SD area. This ball was written up in MyGolfSpy.com. This is the limited edition premium soft ball from Titleist and it's in the ProV1 dollar range if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the post, Z. I'm a big fan of Titleist Pro V1 ball. I've been waiting around to see when it will be out as it sure would be fun to try them out.

Thanks again.

Being a senior, I tried the new Titleist DT TruSoft today. I normally play the NTX Soft or the Callaway SuperHot 70. I see no difference between the NXT or Callaway and the TruSoft with regards to distance. The major item for me is the performance hitting into the green, much better with the short irons, it hits the green and takes one hop (less than 3 ft) then stops and feels very nice. Good performance on short chips. For me, I will play the TruSoft for $22/ dozen. If anyone is interested in this ball, make sure you get the box that says NEW.

Saw the AVX balls at Costa Mesa CC on Monday, $47.00/doz.

Seems like it is a 3-piece ball, with a urethane cover. In chatting with one of the pros there, it is very unclear about its market positioning v the ProV1, V1x. Maybe it is the 'softest' of the three, but marketing didn't say that. It says, 'exceptionally soft feel'. Uh... OK.

Considering the lawsuits between Acushnet and Costco over the past year, I wonder if the next version of the Kirkland Signature (3-piece) and this AVX ball are the comparables?

It's as clear as mud to me.

I believe Titleist has historically done a terrible job of describing the differences between balls. Read the back of any box and they all convey basically the same thing: Distance off the tee and control around the greens. And I've never been able to discern what differentiates a ProV1 from ProV1x, despite entire commercials being dedicated to proclaiming which one different Tour pros prefer.

Anyway, I found an AVX on the 18th hole at Oak Valley Sunday. I'll probably try it out next time I play.

I'm not sure I've seen a box of ANY balls that didn't say that exact same thing! Same goes for most course descriptions - 'Challenging for the low handicapper but forgiving for the high!'

I believe the name of the new ball is actually AVX, but not that important. I tried a sleeve of these at Black Gold earlier this week. These definitely go farther off the tee, with Driver. I was getting 10-15 yards more. Pretty impressive. Irons seemed to fly a little higher with just a little less spin than ProV1 or 1X. The feel of the ball is what I didn't care for. More of a muffled thump, than the nice crisp crack of ProV1x that I like.
The distance might be a differentiator for some. Same price point as ProV. Worth a try. Only offered in warm winter locations from what I understand.
