Hi GK'ers,

Looking for some PGA West advice. We rented a house on the Nicklaus Tournament course for a few days coming up, and wanted to get your opinions.
We'll be playing twice and need some help. Two golfers are 13 handicaps, and two golfers are 20+

Choose one from:
- (A) PGA West Stadium Course
- (B) PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course
- (C) PGA West Greg Norman Course

Choose one from:
- (D) La Quinta Mountain Course
- (E) La Quinta Dunes Course

It seems as though all 5 courses are in top notch conditions right now. I've played other tracks in the Coachella Valley (Desert Willow - both, Indian Wells - both, Glen Ivy at La Quinta, all the Marriot courses, etc). Really looking to stay & play at PGA West this time (never played any of the courses at PGA West).

*If SilverRock Resort is a must play, please mention.

I appreciate your advice and help.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!
-Eric

For your first PGA West experience, you've gotta play Stadium. Mountain is the clear-cut choice at La Quinta and my personal favorite of all 5.

Sounds awesome, have fun!

I've only played one of those so far (Nicklaus Tournament course) and I can tell you that it was a beast for me at a 13-14 hcp. If my understanding is correct, the others are even tougher, so how much fun will they be for the 20+ guys shooting 110 or more? From a personal standpoint, I would go with the easiest rated courses (not that any of them really are), so that the high handicap guys aren't hating life too much, while it will still be more than enough challenge for the 13 hcp'ers.

QUOTED  - (B) PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course

and

QUOTED  - (D) La Quinta Mountain Course

Recent reviews for the Nicklaus Tournament Course have been outstanding and if you have not experienced the back nine at the La Quinta Mountain Course yet, you need too.

(a) I prefer to play Nicklaus, but Stadium has a much bigger wow factor. If you haven't been, I'd pick Stadium first. It will kill you, but go anyway.
(b) Mountain >>>>>> Dunes. Definitely Mountain.

Silverrock had edged past Classic Club as my favorite PS course. Silverrock did have some back 9 redesign recently, but I'd still expect it to be great. But I'd still recommend Stadium and Mountain if you haven't been there.

Awesome info so far! Much appreciated...

Mountain is the clear pick then for La Quinta; but torn between Stadium and Nicklaus.
Johnny said Nicklaus, and you can't go against him when he helps with a recommendation, right?? Hahahahahaha....

I actually like Nicklaus better than Stadium.

HOWEVER... I am with some others in saying that Stadium is the more famous course and it should be what you play on your first visit to PGA West. Both it and Nicklaus are very challenging, so don't worry too much about scoring and just have fun whichever you play.

I say play Stadium, go down and hit a "for fun" ball out of the San Andreas bunker on 16 (unless you are in it for real like I was last time I played it and took 4 strokes to escape). And of course, enjoy the awesome Alcatraz island green on 17.

IMO

Nicklaus is easier than Stadium. Might be better for the high handicappers. That said, if there, you should play Stadium at least once.

LQ - Mountain without a doubt.

I'm playing Stadium for the first time this weekend. I know it's gonna beat me up but I found a deal I couldn't pass up!
