This is a random question and not important because most people would just leave. Yesterday at LV Paiute we had a hail storm come over us and put a nice layer of ice on the course.

My question is when on the green can I clear the hail from my line without a penalty if for some reason I had to putt.

I know you can clear debris from your line but clearing hail/snow would create a visual line to see as the rest of the green is still white.

Even though this would never need to be ruled upon it would be cool to see how everyone would react.

PS I used my chipper to hit my 40ft birdie attempt which is the first time I didn't use a putter on the green . My chipped ended up 2 ft short and the ensuing putt was funny to watch bounce off every piece of hail for par.

I seem to recall it snowed one year when the PGA Match Play was over in Tucson. I don't recall if they had to clear snow from the greens during play, or it was just overnight and went away in the morning.

That cold weather in late February when that happened was one of the big reasons the PGA 1) relocated the Match Play venue, and 2) moved it to later in the year.

Good question about "clearing hail/snow would create a visual line to see as the rest of the green is still white" - I can't think of too many other conditions where this would be the case!

QUOTED  PS I used my chipper to hit my 40ft birdie attempt which is the first time I didn't use a putter on the green .

That sounds like a HAIL Mary attempt ...

To me it would be no different than clearing out leaves or pine needles from the line of your putt when the green is covered by them. All are allowed under the rules.

The goal is long and straight! But on the many times I cannot seem to hit them straight, I at least want to hit them long!

Hmmm, is the hail/snow a 'loose impediment' or 'standing water'?

Briefly, snow and naturally occurring ice (hail), can be treated as occasional water or loose impediment at the player's discretion.
