I often find myself scorching through my wish-list of course to play for summer (since I play budget golf, or anything below $70) including my regulars but this year I need some help.

What are some low-key however great gems of golf courses that during summer stay playable? The limit to my travels basically stop past south of Maricopa and North of Flagstaff.

Some great ones of mentioned when talking to some buddies is, Southern Dunes Ak Chin (will play) and Longbow but besides that I need some new flavor to my summer heat filled golfing days!

(I know I can just search the list of courses in Arizona but I want some reason or personal experience that can vouch for the best courses to play during this time of year!)

I liked Verrado Golf Course. That is a very nice track in the west end of the Phoenix valley. I got a good deal directly from the pro shop.

Just east of Scottsdale, We-Ko-Pa has two courses. I played them and I like them. I think you can get some good summer deals at those courses.

Both Verrado and We-Ko-Pa have great scenery and feel. You are not surrounded by housing tracts, for the most part (Verrado is in a tract, but it's nice and the houses are not too close).

I played Longbow and it was a good choice, but in my opinion a much better course was Gold Canyon GC (Dinosaur Mountain). It had a great mix of holes, conditions were good even as others were flying into the dry fall months and I thought the challenge was worth it. If I remember, they also had reasonable rates and even a resort if you needed a place to stay. Worth a look at least!

Ak chin and both courses at Verrado and both at wekopa are great. I like talking stick north (south is solid too), Papago. A little pricier still in the summer groom north pinnacle was outstanding, tpc champion (not stadium), and wickenberg ranch is a bit of a drive but worth it.

Here is a list of courses that you should consider ...

1. AK Chin - Southern Dunes
2. Wekopa - both courses ... my favorite is Cholla
3. Verrado - both courses ... the new Victory Course is my favorite of the 2, but I know that the first 7 greens there are not good right now.
4. Wickenburg Ranch
5. Quintero
6. Verde River

Aside from the obvious studs above here is an absolute sleeper in the area you requested:

Coldwater Golf Club is an absolute sleeper low key track. If it wasn't the opposite side of town from where I live in Scottsdale I would play there every week.

Also the TPC Champions is a forgotten gem due to its famous bigger cousin.

QUOTED  I liked Verrado Golf Course. That is a very nice track in the west end of the Phoenix valley. I got a good deal directly from the pro shop.

Me and my buddy always play this course in August (the Founders course, never played Victory) and it's always amazing how in shape AND how long the rough is. I always gush to people about that course if they don't mind the drive.

QUOTED  but in my opinion a much better course was Gold Canyon GC (Dinosaur Mountain).

Another gem that I haven't played yet but will this summer, Thanks!!

QUOTED  Ak chin and both courses at Verrado and both at wekopa are great. I like talking stick north (south is solid too), Papago.

I've heard Ak-Chin is amazing, need to play that for sure this summer. Humble brag, I've also played Papago, Verrado, both Talking Sticks and Champion, Champion out does them all. Very much a sleeper because of bigger brother! LOL

QUOTED  Coldwater Golf Club is an absolute sleeper low key track.

Consider it added!!
