I think this is a great idea. The Friars 9 had nothing but struggles with water and soil issues. But more so golf needs additional specific conducive environments and facilities for beginners and those considering taking up the game.

Thoughts?

RIVERWALK GOLF CLUB INTRODUCES THE “SUNSET COURSE” FOR 9-HOLE PLAY

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 1, 2018) – Located in the heart of San Diego’s Mission Valley just minutes from the
Convention Center, Old Town and area attractions, Riverwalk Golf Club will soon unveil the Sunset Course, a
re-imagined 9-hole layout designed to underscore the USGA’s Play 9 initiative. Formerly the Friars-9, the
Sunset Course will complement the club’s popular 18-hole combination previously known as the Mission-9 and
Presidio-9 Courses when it debuts on September 7.

The Sunset 9 will be ideally suited for new golfers, beginners, juniors, seniors, families and busy avid
golfers, featuring attractive pricing options and enhanced programming catered to the needs of these groups.
Currently the par-36 course offers three sets of tees, measuring 3,230 yards, 3,077 yards and 4,260 yards. To
better accommodate golfers of varying ages and skill levels, two new sets of tees will be introduced: The Junior
Medalist Tees measuring 1,500 yards, and the Flex Instruction Tees measuring 2,000 yards.

The Sunset Course will serve as an outstanding venue for the club’s expansive golf instructional
program for juniors and adults, and will also feature an 18-hole FootGolf layout. FootGolf is a precision sport
in which players kick a soccer ball into a 21-inch cup in as few shots as possible. The Sunset Course will
become one of only eight golf facilities in San Diego to offer FootGolf.

“We are excited to debut the new 9-hole Sunset Course, which will appeal to a broader base of the
community,” said Riverwalk Golf Club General Manager Brendan Cronin. “Riverwalk has a passion for
promoting the game of golf and now we have 9 holes dedicated to that purpose.”

"Sunset" as in on it's way out? Anything that keeps Riverwalk alive and vital is a great thing.

Hmm...interesting. Sounds like a decent idea, I would like more 9 hole / Par 3 / short course options in OC, but not if it means cutting down a full size course. But since this was a struggling 9, maybe it will work out for them. Certainly the proximity to downtown makes this attractive, but there are other short courses in the area.

But man, I don't like mixing real golf and FootGolf.

Absolutely love this! Kudos to Riverwalk for thinking outside the box and trying to lead golf moving forward. I'm definitely going down to check it out.

Cool!!! Play it twice for a 8500 yard course. Might shoot 120 and be happy
