Main reason, even though GK is going to launch its iPhone app hopefully by the end of the year, I know 4 years in development but yes it will be a reality, the amount of mobile traffic flowing into the Course Finder and Region Golf Course Listing pages has made it essential to do what GK can with its current programming framework to update those pages. There is a long term plan to completely redo GK in mobile friendly code but I need to get the iPhone app launched first. The website project is obviously huge.

Region Listing Pages

You'll notice the listing takes up the entire width and is bigger now. You'll also notice if you look at a listing page it will recognize a mobile device and render listings larger. Gone although are the Google Maps on the listing pages although. There was no way to integrate them. HOWEVER, they are still in the Course Finder (which has always utilized the Google Maps better) and they are still on each golf course page. Speaking of Course Finder...

Course Finder

Still making improvements, most notably the main search text field to plug in a course name will be faster and mobile friendly. But already everything is larger on the page and if you view it on a mobile device the listing output for example on Search Courses Map and Green Fee, Location & Scorecard is rendered larger. Also the mini photo presentation on the left side of the Home Page and other pages on GK is going away to make room for the Course Finder button which you are already seeing more often.

This just came up in an email from one of our GKers.

The improvements that Johnny brought up are necessary BUT if you still desire the VISUAL MAP to see local golf courses that in the process of maintenance or have it scheduled, you will still be able to see these courses in proximity to your location. All you need is a zip code or a city/state to find out what local courses are doing.

1. Click COURSE FINDER
2. From the COURSE FINDER, select the FREEN FEE, LOCATION & SCORECARD Tab.
3. Under STEP ONE select -ALL (default)
4. Under STEP TWO enter the zip code ONLY or CITY/STATE
5. SELECT START SEARCH.

This will display all courses in your area with the appropriate flags (WHITE - Maintenance pending, RED - Major Maintenance, YELLOW - Minor Maintenance/Recovering from Major Maintenance, GREEN - NO Maintenance)

Hope that helps!!!

The other method if you have the name of the golf course you can also choose SEARCH COURSE MAP under the COURSE FINDER tab. This allows you to see the golf course you choose in addition to area golf courses and see if you have alternatives in case there are other time constraints, pace of play issues or the like for your target course.

Thanks Vic for your reply!

The truth is Course Finder has always done a better job at not only displaying relevant map but also finding a golf course. It has built into it region listing in case you like that better. The Green Fee, Location & Scorecard is a great filter search as well. The problem was the clunky UI. For those of you that have never used the Course Finder, give it a try.
