I'm doing a trip for a week in Bend Oregon in August.

Anyone live in the area? What courses do you recommend? I'm definitely getting Proghorn in and hopefully Sunriver.

interesting that you are talking about going to Bend ... looking at going to Central Oregon or Big Cedar Lodge (Branson, Missouri) next year

Read my past reviews on courses in Bend, OR and let me know if you have questions.

Pronghorn is awesome golf and customer service, but super pricey. If you have country club access, try to get a reciprocal round at Pronghorns private Fazio course.

Sunriver has awesome course but crappy service and golf infrastructure. Crosswater is amazing and bring lots of balls.

Tetherow is a must play if enjoy links style courses designed by David Kidd who did Bandon Dunes.

Many others to play also in area. Read my past reviews. I took two separate trips there because it was so great.

Crosswater is peaceful and very nice but when we went in 2014 you had to stay at the lodge ($$$) to play there. Other Sunriver courses may not have that requirement.

Many many well-conditioned and fun courses at very reasonable prices in the Bend area. Don't pass them up because they are lesser known - Widgi Creek, Lost Tracks, Aspen Lakes, Black Butte Ranch, Eagle Crest Resort.

I've been up there a number of times & played most of the courses in the area.

You are really going to dig Pronghorn.

2 courses that kind of fly under the radar, but are pretty amazing: Aspen Lakes and Widgi Creek.

Deschutes Brew Pub, downtown, is gold as well.

On a side note, make sure you drink a lot of water. It's at a moderate altitude (3,500 ft) & such low humidity that you don't even notice you're sweating. It just kind of evaporates off your body & you don't even realize you are dehydrating.

Enjoy your trip up there!

I frequent Bend in the summers as we have a family friend who has a house there. I would hit the followingn courses in this order.

1) Pronghorn
2) Tetherow
3) Crosswater
4) Brasada Ranch
5) Widgi Creek

Crosswater and Brasada are private unless you stay on the property. I would recommend going mid-week and getting a good rate at sunriver in order to get out on Crosswater.

Good IPA? Boneyard brewery!

Have fun!

Really like Widgi Creek. Very nice shape, interesting layout running adjacent to the majestic DeShutte's river. Love to go back there sometime.

Made a trip to Bend a couple of years ago and loved it.
Stayed at Sunriver and played Meadows and Crosswater. Crosswater is in my top 5 courses I've played.
Made the drive up to Sisters and played Black Butte ranch and it was worth every mile.
Bend is craft beer heaven. Must have hit 6-8 different breweries within 10 miles of downtown.

On costco.com if you search for "golf" and scroll down, they have an offer for a course in Bend (don't remember which one). The price was 2 for $100. Might be worth looking into.

QUOTED  Bend is craft beer heaven

And there is always this

ha... just got back from Bend. Will post some reviews soon.

From Sunriver to Redmond, it's like a 45-60 min drive... so for me, a lot depends on where you are staying. I did not play sunriver, because i was staying at eagle crest in redmond. and I did not go to tetherow, because it seemed like they did not accept public play before 10am. I did play at Juniper GC... which was really lovely. I would play there again, for sure.

I did play Pronghorn Nicklaus (about 30 min from my resort). I loved it. I walked/carried. I don't know how people play that course without a caddy the first few times... there is a lot of course knowledge that is crucial to not losing strokes. Luckily, I was paired with a member who plays over 400 rds a year... he helped me a lot, and invited me back to play the Fazio!

According to him, if you ask nicely, they will put you out on the Fazio, if you pay the $250ish green fee. I played for the member guest fee, which was considerably less. The Fazio was a beauty as well, but I liked the Nicklaus better.

I also played Eagle Crest Ridge course... It was nice as well... greens super slow.

My favorite breweries were Crux and Bend Brewing Co. I learned how to paddle board and went whitewater rafting for the first time!

I would definitely go back to Bend.
