Heading down to SD for a short getaway and want to play in No. SD county in the cooler climes. Have narrowed down choices to Arrowood, Encinitas Ranch and The Crossings. Looking for good greens, good overall conditions, cooler climes and OK pace of play. Intend to walk on as a single on a weekday and hope to play maybe 2 of the 3 courses. My home courses are the Moorpark courses so hoping to approximate that quality. Guidance requested as I know nothing of these courses other than online reads.

Arrowood is the best track and almost always in good shape.

I have friends that hate Encinitas and friends that hate Crossings. I like them both. They are both big courses with lots of room to miss, but still some trouble. I have more fun at Encinitas as you can score there, Crossings is usually in better shape.

For me, Arrowood #1, and flip a coin between the other 2.

Golf Club of California in Fallbrook is also nice and easier to get deals. I'd probably put that one at #2.

I like Twin Oaks.
Arrowood is #1 overall, good fun layout.
Crossings is fun, with some unusual holes.
Never played Encinitas.

Personally, I have never heard anyone say they like Encinitas Ranch and The Crossings has several quirky holes.

Lots of negatives popping up on those two places. But lots of positives on Arrowood and Twin Oaks---think I'll try to hit both of those. What sort of temps would I be getting at those spots?

Yep, both Encinitas and Crossings have a couple of holes that are really tight or difficult. I suspect that turns off several players that have trouble there. #16 at Arrowood is the hardest one around, and I rarely see anyone par that one....but nobody complains because it is visually stunning.

Twin Oaks is one I avoid. It is a dull course IMO and I rarely see it in good shape. I used to like it, but my last few times there I have been underwhelmed.

Temps - highs of low-mid 80s this week.

Just played twin oaks and the place is lush and the greens perfect, bunkers are thin only bad part.

I quite enjoy The Crossings. Was down there in June and played it a few times. Fun and challenging with some solid conditions throughout the course. Views of the ocean on the front nine and fun canyon holes on the back. If you play in the late afternoon or early morning you'll be treated to some coyotee sightings as well.

I've only played Encinitas once and it was OK but that's about it. I paid rack rate and for that I'll pass on it. If you have a players card or can get the resident rate then it might be worth it.

My absolute favorite in the area is Aviara hands down. Yes it's more expensive but worth every penny of it.
