Why are they giving strokes this week in Atlanta?

I thought these guys were good and didn't need handicap adjustments to compete.

Is this playoff final format good for professional golf or the TV viewer?

Easier to know who is winning. One tournament, one trophy, one winner . . . no more this guy one the tournament but this guy one the cup.

Very, very, very simple. The strokes are just taking the place of points awarded for your position. Example, instead of the leader having, let's say, 5000 points and number 30 having no points. The leader now has an advantage of 10 strokes. It will make it a lot easier for the players and viewers a like to see where everyone stands and not have Steve Sands have to show us every 5 minutes.

I admit I'm curious to see how this plays out. In concept it seems like a good idea to make it easier to figure out who's actually winning the fed ex cup

It also now makes the "playoffs" mor in tune with other sports as there is a much higher priority (points) in the playoffs.

Who cares if the same person does not win the season ending Tour Championship and the season long Cup race? Used to be, and should be IMO, 2 seperate things.

Would be better if the last couple of events did not count so much toward the season long points? Coming in solo 3rd now counts for more points than winning months ago?

Terrible concept spotting pros strokes in a tournament. I for one think the current concept will last exactly one year and will at least be tweaked if not scrapped entirely.

The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter?

The issue I have with the new format is that the winner will be credited with another PGA victory. While I recognize that the 30 players in the field are some of the best in the world, playing at the top of their game, I still have an issue with counting this as a tour victory beating only 29 other players, and particularly now that you have given individuals various advantages.

Certainly in almost any full field event, there are at least that many top rated players, so winning an event like the Zurich Classic for example, would seem more difficult that winning the Tour Championship. No problem awarding the top point getter the FedEx Cup, but not crazy about allowing a player to add a tour victory with a "handicap" advantage.

That's why, as much as I love the Masters, it is comparatively not a hard tournament to win. In some ways, winning the Tour Championship and the Masters are possibly the two easiest tournaments to win. ( Other than the Heroes World Championship which is unofficial)

Back in the day, I would agree Tom. However, by adding invitations to all the Top 50 in the world rankings not already eligible, they closed alot of loopholes that could have previously excluded top players. Especially top foreign pro's. IMO, today's Masters fields are much more representative than they were decades ago.

What'd everybody think? In my case, by Saturday the pre-tournament scores were nearly forgotten and it just seemed like an ordinary Tour Championship. I liked the fact that it served as an actual "championship game" unlike other years where the tournament winner wasn't necessarily the FedEx Cup champ. I say keep the format!
