You know the other golfers care about Tiger. They make many times as much now as they did before Tiger came on the scene. The purse for the Players was $720k in 1998 and it is $1.8M this week. This after a long recession that the tour weathered nicely. Check out the stats for the money list below.

Year Leader #30 #125
---- -------- -------- --------
1986 $0.65 M $252,827 $63,395
1987 $0.93 M $327,250 $69,094
1988 $1.1 M $380,651 $83,590
1989 $1.4 M $391,855 $99,454
1990 $1.1 M $435,690 $123,908
1991 $0.98 M $485,023 $117,549
1992 $1.3 M $472,626 $109,742
1993 $1.5 M $513,072 $120,041
1994 $1.5 M $533,201 $142,515
1995 $1.6 M $611,700 $149,280
1996 $1.8 M $604,382 $167,852
1997 $2.0 M $752,077 $179,273
1998 $2.5 M $964,302 $228,304
1999 $6.6 M $1.25 M $362,893
2000 $9.1 M $1.5 M $391,075
2001 $5.6 M $1.7 M $406,352
2002 $6.9 M $1.9 M $509,845
2003 $7.5 M $2 M $487,495
2004 $10.9 M $2 M $623,262
2005 $10.6 M $2 M $626,736
2006 $9.9 M $2.3 M $660,898

1997 was Tiger's first full year on the tour. Money for 125th on the list doubled in two years and the top golfer tripled his winnings. Contrast that to his fall. In 2010, as we were coming out of the recession, the 125th golfer made $786k; last year the 125th made $713k I think the savvy pros want Tiger to succeed. Their riches may depend on it.

I care too. He was fun to watch in his heyday. I hope he gets it back. To do it, though, he has to stop leaving putts short.

QUOTED  So speed is pretty important, eh RD?

I did not weigh in on the other thread, but for an unrepentant lag putter like me, speed is paramount!!!!!!

Yep, I would rather watch Tiger come in 64th than watch most of the other regular PGA Tour guys win a tournament. For me, watching about 80% of the guys on tour play about 1 hole is enough. Walking billboards with the same swing and little personality. No thanks!

Bubba, Tiger, Seve, Lee, Arnie, Sam... I'll take the guys all day who do it their way with some flair.

The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter?

Yes, this household cares about Tiger. His life is constantly under a microscope; however, you only really hear/read about the negatives/indiscretions, etc lately....whether you agree or disagree, what he has done for the sport is impressive. Sad to see him struggle; but just because a dog's got three legs you don't kick em to the curb because its any less appealing to look at.
There are other players slamming clubs into the ground and throwing drivers in the drink in frustration, but you don't hear the announcers belaboring and replaying that to infinity and beyond. Everyone has opinions, and this is mine...please no 'hater' mail replies just because I say...

Being a long time "Tiger Hater" I also care, but only in the most negative manner. The truth is, now for the first time in a long time, I enjoy watching Tiger ...... watching him struggle that is. I acknowledge his accomplishments, but not him as an individual.

What Tiger's fall shows you is just how good and dominant he was for so many years.

And the fact that he had everyone beat mentality before they even teed off.

I think it will be a long time before we see a golfer dominant the golf seen like that.

Hopefully we will see him or someone else that dominant, since it is good for the game.

Tiger as did others changed the game for the better, this cant be denied in both bringing new players and growing the industry around it. We all experienced it first hand with Tiger but its probably no different in a lot of ways then the previous generations of Nelson, Hogan, Sneed, Palmer and Nicklaus. Whats most compelling is the fact that the game is bigger than any one individual and will survive and thrive with or without Tiger. Became more obvious Sunday with Fowler, Sergio and Kissner coming down the stretch in the most exciting TV coverage since 2008 (IMO), its only going to get better from here with the current group of players.

How much fun will it be when Tiger steps up in a big way against these guys and I do think it will happen but maybe it wont and that's OK too. Thinking Golf is in a better place because of him. For that reason, i will always care about Tiger but happy its more than just the Tiger show now.

i don't hate Tiger, but... i read an article saying the reason he and Lindsey broke up was because he cheated on her. whether this is true or not remains to be uncertain. if this is true, i still wouldn't say i hate the guy, but dang dude... find a different happy place.
