I know many of you have played the Iron-Wood nine in Cerritos. Did anyone else try to post a score after a round there and not find it listed? On top of that, there is no slope and rating on the scorecard to manually add it. Anyone have a solution or any inside tips to post scores from there? I will play there again I'm sure and don't feel it's right to simply neglect posting scores from there.

I'm not a handicap expert but I'd guess if the course is not found on the SCGA/GHIN system the course does not meet the criteria to be used as a postable round. In this case, Iron-wood is a 9 hole par 3.

That's interesting ... I found Iron-Wood to be no more or less difficult than say, Penmar, but I understand the logic. I was thinking that the Lakes at El Segundo was even shorter with the same setup and in GHIN, but alas it is not! Nor could I find Manhattan Beach Marriott. So are all standard par 3 courses (even ones that have a few par 4s) omitted and just 'throw-away' rounds?

Most golf courses if not all can be rated or issued with slope/rating. SCGA governs the process who’s tied in with USGA/GHIN. If a course is not an SCGA member, the slope/rating won’t be available in the system. Therefore, the SCGA member won’t be able to select a non- SCGA course played for posting scores. ...eh... I think that’s how it works.

On the SCGA website under course directory type in iron wood nine without the dash and the course will pop up. Odd thing is the site shows a rating of 27.2 and N/A for the slope. So, I don't now if it can be posted without a slope.

Well, at least we're getting closer! Can we take a stab at the slope and then post? ;-p

I do not know where the the exact cutoff is. However, "short courses" have historically not been recognized for official handicap rounds. I have never seen an eighteen hole course that was less than 2500 yards or a nine hole par 3 officially rated for slope and handicap purposes.

Most executive and many longer eighteen hole par 3 courses have official slope and course ratings.

The goal is long and straight! But on the many times I cannot seem to hit them straight, I at least want to hit them long!

18 hole courses less than 3000 yards and/or 9 hole courses under 1500 yards do not have a slope and course rating. This will typically rule out anything under par 29 for 9 holes.

So they really are 'throwaway' rounds ... that kind of bums me out. I feel like I'm cheating my handicap for some reason. But it is what it is ... thanks for the info gentlemen!
