So one of the top Korean golfers gets suspended from the Korean tour for 3 years because he flipped off a fan. (The fan had used his cell phone camera during the golfer's swing). I don't know... seems harsh to me.

To harsh IMO. 3 months or 6 months would seem more than enough. Maybe even just 30 days for the first offense.

W/O getting into any of the pro's behavior, I want to focus on the "fan".

Having worked at more than a dozen professional events over the years, cell phones and cameras from "fans" have been out of control for well over a decade now. No matter how many reminders or signs are posted, there are always more than a few who think they are special and that does not apply to them.

Come on, the guy had a one shot lead near the end of the tournament where a single stroke could result in more than a hundred thousand $$$ difference in his pay check. Not to mention all the perks that go with winning professional events. The "fan" should have been removed from the premises immediately IMO.

Stoning may be a little severe, but caning seems appropriate for the offense.

The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter?

I think three years is hash and that the fan should have been punished and probably lost his right to attend a golf event for the same amount of time, at least. I do have one question; I have been to many tourneys and the amount of movement and ambient noise is excessive, to say the least. The pro that is so distracted by a phone might want to consider practicing with a phone going off in their backswings and downswings and prepare for that kind of distraction. Maybe this event was not well attended and was mostly quiet but every event at Torrey and this includes the us open, the noise and people moving should be worse than a phone going off. No wonder koepka is so successful, no rabbit ears and oblivious to stuff goin on around him.

Three year ban for the ‘fan.’ A cigar and a pat on the back for the pro.

I agree with everything Nick has said and 3 years is too harsh however the sport of Golf has to maintain an image of integrity and all the Professionals know this and agree to it. Harsh yes, but the Tour was definitely within there rights. If i want my kids to see this type of stuff i will take them to a football, basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, ETC game...........you get it. Set a standard and enforce it or these things will be a commonplace like most other sports!
