Planning on heading over to Ireland in early May - Dublin to Galway to Lahinch to Shannon/Limerick.

Lahinch high on my list of bucket courses - anybody have any experiences to share there? Town looks very small and aside from the course, the beach and the Cliffs of Mohar close by, not much else ........

Portmarnock seems very close to Dublin making it an easy one-day getaway - anybody done that?

Also wondering about any "unknown gems" that are in the vicinity of the areas mentioned - might be hard to fit in another round but if the opportunity
is there to play a great course might try and carve out some time ......

Jealous!!!!

Ballybunion is 50 miles south of Lahinch down the west coast - usually one of the top 5 courses in the world. It's about 60 miles from Shannon.

Between Dublin and Galway is the K Club, where the Ryder Cup was held a few years ago.

Down the east coast about an hour south of Dublin is the European Club - fun play over windswept dunes.

Many, many other 'name' Irish courses available with some more research.

Let me know if you need a 4th!!! (and he's already paid up - LOL)

Dromoland Castle is close to Shannon. Nice parkland style course on the grounds.

The goal is long and straight! But on the many times I cannot seem to hit them straight, I at least want to hit them long!

The times that I went, I always used Shannon as my starting point. There is also a great course at the airport - Shannon Golf Club. Dromoland Castle golf club is a great course and 20 minutes from Shannon. You can even stay in the castle if you wish and the town is spectacular to spend time in.

Lahinch (the Old Course) is fantastic and one not to miss. In my top 10 courses in the world. Easy to get to from Shannon (IMO).

You also have Waterville (not too be missed if possible); Old Course @ Ballybunion; Tralee and Old Head in what they call the SW corner of Ireland (personally one of my favorite areas of Ireland).

There is also a great book, written by Tom Coyne, A Course Called Ireland. It details his walk (yes walk) around Ireland and it is filled with great stories and details about courses, pubs, clubhouse bars (yes Lahinch and Waterville are is favorites), inns/guest houses, restaurants.

This book will give you a feel/flavor for the rest of Ireland (IMO).

Personally, I always went in July/August or right after Labor Day because it (lucky me) provided me with the best weather.

Enjoy the trip.

Wow, that sounds awesome. I don't know how expensive it is but I heard Trump course near there is pretty good also. If you end up finding some gem, post it here. I'm headed there in Mid July on a golf trip so would love to hear about your trip. Have a great time.
