I'm possibly going to take a trip to Vancouver this fall, most likely in September 2018, and am looking for a recommendation.

I wouldn't be going exclusively for golf, but I am thinking I can get away one morning for a round. I will be renting clubs, so there's that.

Anybody have some advice?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

its a little north but I really enjoyed Furry Creek. The course has great views of the bay mixed with towering pine tree's. Back in 2009 I think I paid like $50-75US.

Its also famous for the Happy Gilmore-Bob Barker Fight scene.

Obviously, the Bear Mountain courses are the top public courses in the area. Play the Mountain over the Valley course.

Another option for you, if you have a GHIN, is to reach out to Royal Colwood GC and The Victoria Club. They are the R&A clubs in Vancouver. R&A clubs are normally ultra-exclusive for citizens but they can be receptive to international visitors.

Some clubs will require a letter from your golf club, doesn't need to be private (this seems to be for handicap verification/membership), others just need a request. Most of the clubs have handicap minimums. The lowest (most restrictive) I've seen is around 18 handicap (Royal Melbourne, I think) to play.

the one i remember in Vancouver close to the YVR would be Mayfair Lakes. This used to be a private course but i think they opened tee times to public.

There are also some world class courses in Whistler. which is about 90 min drive. More in particular Whistler golf (Palmer course) and Nicklaus North.

It has been a few years so not sure the conditions

Depending on where you are planning on being, I would suggest Northview ( the Ridge Course) and Morgan Creek, both are in/near the Surrey area near the border. Northview was home to a PGA event for a couple of years. Also in that area are 2 semi-private/public courses, Peace Portal and Hazelmere, with the former being the best of the 2 I think. If you are staying nearer or in Vancouver, Westwood Plateau is about a 45 minute drive west, and is a very good track. UBC golf course on the University of BC property is a very playable and good track too. If you are a member of a private golf course, some of the private clubs in the area may have reciprocal privileges. If so Marine Drive is a real nice course, it is a very old course, and not too long, but is tree lined and has lots of bunkers. Point Grey is also a very old course and is walkable. If you happen to be driving up to Vancouver, and are going through Blaine Washington, Semiahmoo in Blaine is a great track too. Anyway enjoy your trip up to Vancouver and area.

Remember that if you are in Vancouver and plan to play Bear Mountain (on Vancouver Island), you will need to take the ferry over and back, so you'll need to factor in a much longer day.
