Day 2 of our Reno Bowling trip. Early golf, late bowling. We played here back in 2016 and course is same, staff here was excellent and very helpful. grabbed our clubs and put them on our carts and showed us the way to the new shop for The Lakes Course with a nice driving range adjacent to shop. Course was also recovering from the winter but maybe because it is in Sparks has recovered quicker than Lakeridge in Reno that we played the day before. We expected wind and we had a steady dose throughout our round but we are from the IE so we are used to wind. Tee Boxes are in excellent shape, flat and green. Fairways are green, thin with a lot of rollout for you stingers out there. Rough was thick enough to impact the longer shots but not too long. Bunkers throughout the Lakes had issues and some were ground under repair, most had some type of vegetation or tree pieces scattered but you land in one it was easy to get out of. Greens were fast with some greens still showing the aeration holes that were still filling in but didn't impact the roll. We had fun and would return to this course without thinking about it

Last review in 2014. played August 2022. Course in good condition. Would play it again.

I don't see the Lakes course as a 10 in immaculate condition at the moment. I played Lake course 7/25 after driving up from Lake Tahoe and the bent grass greens speed was slow so you tended to come up short on the long putts and power past the hole on the 5 footers. The layout is enjoyable but your iron play needs to be able to handle water on all four par threes.

Best deal when playing Red Hawk if you are from out of town as I was is to stay at the resort instead of finding a hotel in Sparks. The Tahoe suite is over 500 sq. ft. and is a three minute walk to the pro shop and David's Grill. When you stay and play, there is a $15 discount on greenies and the resort room is $129 plus taxes per night. FYI, Johnny's Italian restaurant in NW Reno is top notch Italian food.

I was in Reno/Sparks for Nationals Bowling tournament. They had a coupon for 20% off green fees for a round. (reg. twi $49/ paid$38). This course is set in a resort area, restaurant, shopping, spa, gym and GOLF! The bag drop had very polite and knowledgeable staff to talk with about the courses. We played The Lakes, it is challenging and scenic. The tee boxes are flat, well manicured and minimal divot damage. The fairways and rough are in outstanding condition. The layout is challenging, but playable. This is a thinking course, which I like. You have to know when to layup or just go for it! The bunkers are groomed and have good quality sand, I know because I was in them a lot! LOL! the greens are angulating, yet rolls smooth and true, about 10-11 on the stimp meter. It is a must play in Reno/Sparks NV

Played this course on Sept. 3rd. First class all the way. First time for me playing a seasonal course, with conditions relating back to the previous year winter. Everything here is quite lush and green. Fairways are terrific with just the right amount of roll. Rough here is worth at least one shot depending on your lie. Greens are smooth and roll true, 10 on this day. Very little to any ball marks and very tricky to read. Course is filled with large pines, that can and will force you to work the ball, several natural lakes and streams, and over 100 bunkers that are just done right deadly near the greens and very troublesome in the fairway. Great sand, raked and well maintained with 4 inches of base. Tee boxes are level with lush conditions and again show very little signs of wear, even on the par 3s. Seems to me you get an extra 10 percent in distance here so club accordingly.
Customer service is outstanding, check in is pain free, starter has good knowledge of course and is right on with his information. Practice range is well kept and maintained with good distance markers a very good putting and chipping green. I would highly recommend playing here if you are ever in the area.

It's getting late in the season, but this course is still in great shape. Reno has had some good water shed this year so the area is soft an well watered. The winds were a little intimidating but after the first 2 holes it died down. The Resort at Red Hawk is a very well designed and maintained course. there is a fair amount of water on the course. The wetlands provide lateral hazards in this usually dry climate. The fairways are not narrow but, there are many bunkers on each. The trick on this course is to play smart, pick your shots. The greens are large on most holes and the fronts are usually open for fairway approch shots. In conclusion, I like this course and the green fees are not to bad. They have an outstanding restaurant and bar at the 18th green.
