Played 10/7 at 10:06. Warm fall day, pace of play was slow and course was stacked up, to be expected at most Sac area munis on a nice weekend, leading to a five hour round. That being said, course was in better condition than many publics I've played in the area recently. Greens were smooth and rolled mostly true; some pitch mark issues but not severe, and ran quick today. Fairways and rough were both in good condition without any major bare spots. Hardly any muddy or soggy areas. Bunkers generally in ok shape, a little damp but not awful and definitely playable, which is more than many courses these days. Tee boxes were probably in the worst shape of anything, but not bad enough to severely impact the value. Course layout is nothing special, lots of generic parkland holes, but again, not too different than many courses in this area. Worth a visit if you're local, but don't go too far out of your way.

Conditions Update - Course is playing nicely. They are getting the bunkers back in shape and playable. A lot of courses during the pandemic let their bunkers go to mud or hard pan. Either way Mather is getting theirs back in shape which is good. Greens are running medium, fairly smooth, but did have more than average divots on the green that I had to repair before putting. All in all the price is right the course is in good shape so don't hesitate to make a tee time

Played this morning 4/9. Greens in good shape and running pretty fast. per course direction bunkers are not in play. Rough is thick and fairways in decent shape. Some tight lies and some fluffy. $25 to ride this morning. One rider per cart Cups are inverted and no touching the flag per social distancing guidelines. Get your tee times early. with only a handful of courses open tee times are going fast.

Just updating conditions at Mather. for an overall review DeepSea14 posted an excellent review on 5/13. I play Mather frequently due to cost and location. They just punched so wait a while. Greens are almost always in great shape. Rough can be thick at times although this time of year not too bad. My biggest beef with the course is that they over water the you know what out of the course. This time of year after a long summer it's not too bad if you don't count the bunkers. The bunkers are the worst in the area. They are more like mud than sand. They are always wet and sometimes puddled. I don't believe they ever drag them or perform maintenance. Too bad, cause otherwise it's a good layout and decent conditions. Know before you go!

5/11/19 mid afternoon Saturday round in perfect weather. This is a older military course turned city or county muni and holds on to it's AF roots with tees named Bomber Navigator Mustang and water stations "hydration hangers" the tee makers shaped like bombs.

Older design good shape overall and a decent $35 rate with cart. Greens good to very good rolling medium slow a few unrepaired ball marks. Consistent and full no bare spots. Fairways good tight lies rough not overly penal, tee boxes a bit shaggy but playable.

Bunkers ok seems like a lot of courses are not maintaining bunkers as well as they have in years past. Played three days in a row and the public course bunkers seem average to less at best. Don't find many prepped with a machine drag or raking for consistency.

Good day beer cold service great. Course seemed busy but starter said it was a bit slow for the perfect weather and course conditions. We played as a twosome following many groups and were at that pace all day to the 4 1/2+ hr POP too slow for me but had to get a match in. You can score here with a decent game of which I didn't have this day.

Recommend and a follow-up review coming a 5/25 return planned.

Just an update on course conditions. Greens are smooth a little slow until the dew is off them then they are nice and speedy. Fairways are a little tight and firm in spots, but otherwise nice. Bunkers have plenty of sand but some are wet from irrigation. Some tee boxes are a little chewed up but very playable. It's worth the fee and a fun test.

Just to update everyone - I like the course in spring summer and fall, but right now it's a mud pit. Played it a week ago and we haven't had rain in over 3 weeks and it's still muddy everywhere. It just doesn't drain well. If there has been any appreciable rain, skip this course for a while.
