I love this course and the back nine has some of the best holes (16/17/18)!

A little wet this time of yr because of the rain, but in great shape overall- fast lush greens,, best golf deals to be had thru e-club on their website.. Because they are good deals, may have a little slow play due to lots of players during the busy season..

Played here the day before thanksgiving on a email special of 83 dollars. Havent played here in 15+ years but the place is still "the same". However, its lost its charm, the new Ritz Carlson is garrish and an incredible eye-sore, but the golf course itself is absolutely spectacular. Tees, fairways and greens are tight, lush, smooth and fast. This golf course is absolutely punishing but I loved every minute of it. Have to do everything well here to score. True players golf course. Rolling, undulating fairways, tree-lined and inspite of playing amongst homes, the homes are quaint and unique to look at with lots of character. I enjoyed my round at Half Moon alot. Staff was great and weather for this time year was awesome.

We played The Old Course in May for $250 per foursome special. This was one of the best courses I've ever played. The course conditions were excellent & the weather was perfect. The staff was very friendly & helpful.

Played on Monday - March 19, 2007. Never played this course, but played the Ocean a few times. Got a great deal from the NorCal Golf Expo, so played this course for $72 with cart. Had a morning tee time on a day that was typical for Half Moon Bay. It was a little misty on the first couple of holes, but the sun came out on the back 9. This course is a must play! At first, I hate playing house courses because I usually hit one or two, but this course was wider than it appears. There are a few holes where the houses do come into play and I was in peoples' back yards a couple of times, but overall the course opens up and the mature trees become more of an issue than the houses. With the exception of #2, this hole is tight with trees and houses, don't use your driver. The tee boxes in some areas are not completely level, but it all depends on where you are teeing from. The fairways are tight and crowned. There are a number of undulations as well on some fairways. The rough is not too bad, and the sand is good. Some bunkers are deep though, so you don't want to be in them. The greens were a little bumpy. For a course like this I expect the greens to be fast and smooth, so there was a little disappointment there. Overall the course is really great. You wind your way around the course and fight through the pain of the first 16 holes. The last two holes is why you play this course. The 17 hole is a par 3 with the ocean in the background. Its a beautiful short par 3. When the wind comes up, I bet it plays prett tough. The 18th whole is one of the best finishing holes I have played. Its a downhill par 4 with the ocean on the right side. It ends on this tiny green with the Ritz Carlton right next to it. There are chairs and balconies with people watching you come up, so make sure you stick it. Overall this course is a must play! I would play it all the time if it was only $72, but the $110+ that they charge is a bit steep. Look for the deals and go out and play this course.

First the good news . . . very friendly and helpful marshal, course seems to be set in a Thomas Kinkade like fantasy with impossibly immaculate and expensive homes lining the fairways . . . now the bad news . . . no pictures of the holes either on scorecard or at the tee and with the zigzag nature of the holes, most of the time I had no idea of where I was supposed to hit the ball which made for a brutal round. Local knowledge is a must here! Scorecard also the worst I've ever seen, overly busy and the hole numbers obscured when clipped to the cart. Then there is the impossibly slow play as many groups seemed to not be able to play at all. And the course really isn't that interesting other than the 18th which is torn up and under construction now. Don't have high expectations here unless you love to look at great houses while you play.

The old course at " The Moon" is an exceptional challenge. Even from the white tees at 135 slope its enough of a challenge for the amateur golfer. Every hole is different. The greens are always in great condition. Recently I played a day after all the rains and we actually drove carts on the course. The course drains exceptionally well. Teh 16th, 17th and 18th are beautiful and if theres a match on its not over until until you finish 18. The back drop of the Ritz Carlton is very impressive - aim at the center weather vane for the tee shot and enjoy.
