Walked the blues (6303/69.9/123) in 2h, 45m first golfer out to beat the aeration and expected rain today. The weather was overcast and in the low 60's. William & Frances Bell design built in 1927, so it's a no frills older course. A few tight holes, but most of your trouble here is with big, mature trees, not water or OB. It is 20-25 miles west of downtown Portland out among farmland. The course is surrounded by a couple of roads that wind around the course and there are a few houses, but you are pretty much out away from things. The layout is a little confusing if you have not played here before. Numerous holes zig and zag from one green to the next tee. After playing here twice, I finally know where all the next tees are. The greens are on the smaller side for a regulation course and were definitely the best part of the course, firm & quick. I had 6 less GIR than my last round here, yet shot the same exact score. Golf is a much more fun game when you hole four putts of over 15' with moderate to considerable break in the same round! Many putts on this course will produce moderate to severe breaks, I had several putts with 2' to 4' of break and most had 6+ inches. The fairways were very playable, generally lush but thin in a few spots. The rough was a mixture of hardpan, thin and lush, with pine cones everywhere. I never remember playing a round where my ball came to rest beside so many pine cones that I had to play through. I couldn't move them, otherwise my ball would move. The tees were generally in good shape. The traps were very well maintained with thick, dark sand. The course staff has been very friendly and helpful every time I have played here.

Walked the blues (6303/69.9/123) in 3h, 15m on a Sunday afternoon playing as a single on a prepaid GolfNow deal of $30. Beautiful day to play golf, very little wind, sunny in the low 70's. Did not wait a shot AD and never was within a hole of another player. Hard to comprehend playing a Sunday afternoon round as a single after playing in Southern California for 30+ years, playing 4 1/2+ hour weekend rounds with three foursomes on a tee waiting to hit! The course is surrounded by a couple of roads that wind around the course and there are a few houses, but you are pretty much out away from things. The layout is a little confusing if you have not played here before. Numerous holes zig and zag from one green to the next tee, I twice almost played the wrong hole until looking @ the tee marker. Looks like a no frills older course, not alot of trouble with water or OB, just plenty of big, mature trees to keep you honest.

The greens were definitely the best part of the course, firm & quick. Course knowledge would definitely be beneficial, several greens had severe back to front slope where if you were above the hole, the fringe may be the next best bet to stop your down the hill putt. Several greens were relatively severe, if you were on the wrong side of the hole, a 3 putt was likely.

The fairways were generally lush, thin in a few spots, but very playable. The rough was a mixture of lush, thin & hardpan. The tees were generally in good shape. The traps were very well maintained with thick, dark sand.

Course staff was very friendly. I was impressed that several times maintenance workers stoppers their mowers from 50 yards away while shots were ongoing.
