Played here for the second time ever last Friday, 11/11 (Nigel Tufnel/Veterans Day). We played early, about 6:30 am on a frigid Fall morning. $26 to walk the 9 holes. We teed off a little before our tee time and played in 1:55.

I did not remember much about the course from my previous visit probably 10 years ago but I had a good time. I had shanked about 25 balls on the driving range the day before but that merely translated to spraying the ball this round. I got a good feel for the rough because of that - it is spotty here. The rough was down in general with some bare spots. The fairways were winter tight. Pretty typical of the local munis right now.

The greens were the highlight. My vague recollection from years ago was of shaggy, slow greens. These were fairly quick, rolled well and had more slopes than I recalled. They were a challenge where some local knowledge would have helped. They were a big plus for me, standing out from the otherwise ordinary conditions.

I enjoyed it and likely will be back sooner than before.

Played Friday, 11/7. It was relatively busy and got out in about an hour of getting there. Great service by the pro shop in pairing me with a group and making sure groups went out in the correct order.

The course was in nice shape. Fairway and rough were lush and in good shape. The bunkers were decent. The tees were okay with some I had to search for a level lie. The greens were the highlight. They were as fast as any greens I have played this year. One of my playing partners said they must have rolled them as they were faster than normal. They rolled great also. Really fun putting day.

Most of the water features did not have water. I played out of the one on the second hole and had a par putt (that I missed).

Overall, I had a great time and really enjoyed the round. I’ll be back.

Played on Saturday afternoon, 8/6, about 3:30 pm. I walked on after meeting my familial obligations and joined an agreeable couple. We had a twosome in front of us and another behind us. Not crowded. We played at about a 4 hour pace although I cut out after 16.

The course was in mediocre shape. There were some really dry spots in the fairways and rough. I had a decent lie most times but there was some really thick rough too. Weird mix. Not much sand in the bunkers. One greenside bunker on #6 was full of water. The greens on the front side weren't bad, running on the slow side of medium. The greens on the back nine were much worse. I had a hole next to my line on #10.

I had forgotten how much a factor the wind is in the afternoon at Alondra. We had a steady 20 mph wind the entire round. It was a killer on #2 and #16, directly into the breeze. That said, the dry fairways allowed plenty of roll on low shots.

It will be a while before I come out here again.

Played Lakewood on Saturday morning early. I have not played here in a while. The three in our group were paired with a single who was good company. I was surprised to see several fivesomes in front of us. They have kept the 10 minutes between tee times though and, even though we waited on almost every shot, POP was good at 4:10 (we were 1:55 on the front nine).

The course was relatively lush. There were a few dry areas in the fairway although I was not in any. The rough was really up on places. It was about as thick as I have seen it here. They are putting quite a bit of water on it also - I had to take drops twice from casual water. The greens were really soft. There was quite a bit of check for almost any chip shot with a lofted club. They were running at a medium speed.

Overall, I was happy to be back at Lakewood. The facilities are nice and the course is in pretty good shape.

Played this course for the first time yesterday, May 24. Paid rack rate of $103 for a time just before 7:00 am. Joined three regulars at the white tees for an enjoyable time. Pace of play was pretty good at 3:55. Great customer service. I had to call ahead as I was running late and would arrive just before my tee time. The pro shop and starters were great in setting me up and getting me moving to the tee.

I had heard that the back nine was more interesting, We started on #10. I probably could have used some warm up because the back nine is relatively tight compared to the front nine. That said, I enjoyed both nines. The tees were up and the course played short. If I had to do it again from those tees, I would play the blues for the par threes at least.

The course was in excellent condition. The rough was enough to keep it interesting and a few times we had to search to find balls. The greens were running on the fast side of medium. I was told by one of the guys in the group that during the heat of the summer there were some burned areas in the fairway but right now there are none that I saw.

I would like to play here again but if I did, I would probably search for a deal on the green fees.

Played 4/24 early in the morning. Good service on a crowded day. Got out on time and finished in 3;55 walking.

The course was in good shape except for the greens. They aerated a few days prior and it was a heavy punch with a lot of sand. The greens were relatively slow and bumpy. No other complaints. I would wait a few weeks to get out there to allow the greens to recover.

Played Saturday, early. Walked on as a single and got out in a decent amount of time. The starter was great at getting me and a couple of others on the list out on a busy but well run weekend morning. Kudos to his courtesy and professionalism.

The course was in good shape. No negative comments about anything except the placement of some of the tee markers in fairly tight, not level positions. The greens showed obvious signs of prior aeration but they were quite firm and running pretty fast. Definitely something you had to be aware of in avoiding downhill putts. They did not roll perfectly all the time but they were acceptable. I was in the front bunker on the par 3 12th and my ball was plugged so lack of sand was not an issue :-)

We played in almost exactly 4 hours after starting about one hour after daylight. Very good pace of play. Altogether a pleasure to get out to ElDo again.

Played early today as a single. Ended up backed up behind a female twosome and a foursome who were in no hurry. Seemed to take forever but actually took about 4:10. As usual, the service was top notch. The guy in the pro shop is great. I ordered food from the eighth tee and it was waiting at the turn. They have ongoing construction around the restaurant.

The course was in really nice shape. The greens were very, very nice. Quite firm so that nothing from the rough held, but they rolled beautifully. Fast but not too fast. The rough was long enough that I did not find a tee shot I did not see in flight(the perils of playing alone) and was definitely a factor in club choice. I was in two bunkers. The first needed more sand and the second was good. There were some coming out of winter spots in the fairways but generally it was a good hitting surface.

I enjoy the course and today was no exception. Worth a round if you are in the area.

Played Saturday, 3/12, at 6:30 am. A little slow checking in at the temporary starter building or maybe it seemed that way because everyone had their clubs with them as it is on the way in. Starter was pleasant and professional though so it was a good start to the day. That was the only interaction with the staff though as the snack stand at the 12th tee was closed when we went by. Pace of play was great. 3:35 all walking. We had to wait a few minutes on the first few holes and on 15 and 16, otherwise it was clear sailing.

The course was in pretty good shape. The rough was cut down and not much of a factor. The fairways were winter thin but consistent. If there were bare spots, I was not in any. I was in two bunkers which each had a fair amount of sand (I was plugged in one). The greens were good. They were on the fast side of medium with few bumps. There were a couple of strange spotty areas on the front of a few (including #1 as someone else mentioned and the right green on #16) but they were limited in area.

I enjoy the course layout and it is a pleasure to pay in the present conditions. Its busy but well worth it if a tee time can be obtained.

Played early on Sunday, 2/27. Starters were efficient and pleasant. The driving range was open but the short game area was under construction. Still have a food truck as they are doing an eternal remodel of the clubhouse. It was not open pre-7:00 am when we teed off. Pace of play was relatively poor at 4.5 hours. A group several ahead of us was slow and groups bunched behind it. First time in a long time I have played early here in over 4 hours.

The course is in decent shape. The greens were in very good shape, running pretty fast with few wobbles. Pins were in some difficult places. I do not recall ever playing here with so many double breaks. The fairways were only okay, still winter thin. The rough was hit and miss and I missed quite a bit. They were working on several tees so those holes played shorter than usual. No. 4 was at the bottom of the hill making it a five iron-wedge par 4. No. 6 was in front of the drainage area taking a ton of yardage and interest off the hole. No. 3 had the back tee being worked on but it still played 188 yds to a back left pin, so still plenty of meat on that bone.

Pleasant day out there though. The half way house had pre-made burritos after No. 10. Really chilly in the morning but beautiful after the third hole. I will be back.

Played in a tournament on Sunday. Efficient staff in the pro shop. I paid for a small bucket with a card and he issued me a cart key for the tourney without asking after looking at my card. Nice touch! We went up to the bar for a post-round libation and were the only ones in there. First time I have been asked for proof of Vax. Did not seem to be a well received policy even though not up to the facility. Too bad, because it is a great space for a bite or after round drink.

It ended up being a 5 hour round so POP was not great. The course was in mediocre condition. The problem was the fairways. I have not played here for a couple of years. I expected the usual dormant Bermuda. It seemed this time though that there were large areas of dirt/mud. There was a 20-30 yard area roped off on #5 but I thought the coverage was less than usual elsewhere as well. It was somewhat better on the back nine.

That said, the greens were good. Better than the practice green which looked shaggy. The greens on the course were more medium than fast but they rolled nicely. Some bumps but the greens were the highlight of the course.

I always have a good time at Rio Hondo and Sunday was no exception. I will be back although hopefully after the fairways have recovered a bit.

Played Sunday 1/2 in the early morning. There was some frost on the ground as we walked off the first tee but it eventually warmed up. POP was just okay at 4:15.

We all walked but it was cart path only for carts. The course was pretty wet with many roped off areas. There was little if any roll in the fairways. That said, the course was in decent winter shape especially considering all the rain we got last week. The sand traps needed to be fluffed and the ball had to be moved out of wet/muddy areas on occasion, but overall not bad. The greens were outstanding. Quite quick and rolling well. They were a pleasant surprise.

I always enjoy Lakewood. Recommended.
