Played in a tournament on 10/12/2015. 9AM shotgun -- little wind -- temps in the 80's.

This is currently a private course in Washoe Valley just north of Carson City. I've played here three times this summer as they allow some tournament play on Mondays when the course is pretty quiet.

This is a nice course. Greens, fairways, rough, bunkers and tees are all pretty good. Lots of variety to the golf holes. A very comfortable place to play. Membership program is quite reasonable -- comparable to the Duncan Golf Management program that covers Dayton Valley, Lakeridge and Wolf Run.

Very nice clubhouse here with a good size men's locker room -- includes card tables, lockers and showers. Private club amenities.

Nice range and putting green. Electric carts with ice chest and ball washer. Towels provided, but no GPS. Grill room and snack bar were closed on Monday -- so nothing to report there.

Seems like course maintenance is not running at 100% as there were some bare spots in the fairway and rough. It'll be interesting to see if the course remains private or if it will be sold and converted to semi-private to get more play. Guest rate seems to be around $55. If you get a chance to play here, it is well worth it.

Played 9/9/2015. 9:30 tee time, temp in 70's, no wind to speak of. Pretty ideal playing conditions.

Expensive tourist course with great views of Lake Tahoe. Fall rate is $200; course closes for winter on October 11th this year.

Course condition just about perfect. Greens quite firm, quite fast and hard to putt due to their size and speed. Entire course slopes down the hill to the lake -- affects break and speed of putts both uphill and downhill.

Fairways are quite wide and lots of bunkers. What water there is is along the sides of the fairways -- no holes that require carry over water to reach the green. Also lots of pine trees and pine needles in the rough. Two holes have large pine trees in the middle of the fairway.

Class A- amenities. Ice chest on carts with comp water and apples. No ball washer/club cleaner on carts. No towels -- bring you own. Range, putting green and chipping area are all good -- grass (no mats) on range; balls included in green fees (as they should be).

Electric carts with great GPS. According to the starter, each green has six hole locations, each of which are programmed into the GPS. So the GPS shows the distance to that day's hole location as well as front and back yardage and the yardage up to and to carry fairway bunkers.

Large pro shop and vary large restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining with great lake view. Even if you don't want to pay two bills for a round of golf, excellent choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Played 9/8/2015 at 9:30. Temp around 80° with some wind.

Six weeks left in good golfing weather in NoNV. Course is in its usual great condition for end of summer. Greens were recently sanded, but still roll very smoothly. Remnants of sanding will be gone in a few days. A little firmer than they have been and still running about 11.

Fairways are nice. Pretty tight lies but still allow divots. I recommend putting from even off the green if possible. Rough is still thick and wiry -- to be avoided. Bunkers are firm, but playable, but lots of stones because of the wind. Local rule allows stones to be moved in the bunkers.

Everything else remains the same. Excellent value at $40. Web.com first level qualifying here at the beginning of October, so greens will only be getting quicker and rough will only be getting thicker. Bring your ball retriever as water comes into play on at least half the holes. Still my favorite course to play.

Played 8/25/2015; 10AM shotgun, temp in the 70's with no wind.

Course conditions are generally the same as last year (see July '14 review for a longer course review). Overall quite good with some issues on the tees -- many are quite unlevel.

This is not an easy course. Narrow off the tee on most holes. Lots of elevation change.
To play here is a nice change of pace from big course golf. Hit it straight and stay out of the ravines.

Just a couple negatives: grill room not designed for 30+ players finishing at the same time. No room for a driving range.

This course is a good choice for a unhurried round of midday golf with a lot of scenic golf shots. Priced around $50.

Played 8/19/2015 at 6:42AM. No wind, temp in the 70's at finish, but afternoons are quite warm this time of year.

The more I play this course, the more I like it. Takes some getting used to. Lots of doglegs and lot of elevation change affecting approach shots and putting.

Course was quite damp in early morning. Other than some bare spots in the fairways, course was in very nice shape. Greens were smooth and consistent. Starter said: 12.5 stimp when putting toward downtown; 10.5 stimp when putting toward mountains.

Rough is getting thick -- best to avoid. On front side, lots of trees lining the fairways; backside much more open and easier on tee shots. Greens were holding and are quite large; not a guaranteed two putt just for being on the green.

We were second group off so POP was less than four hours. Marshal was very nice and exceptionally helpful. I had two out-of-town guests with rental clubs. About the third hole, one noticed that his rental driver had a rattle (loose piece on inside). When the marshal came by, he offered to drive back to the pro shop and get a replacement. He was back in a couple holes with the replacement. Big shout out to Richard for going above and beyond.

Amenities are nice. Gas carts with ball washer and ice chest. Range is so-so with hitting off mats. Practice putting and chipping greens adjacent to first tee. Course is quite challenging with the elevations changes. Lack of wind made it much more pleasant.

Good place to play. Quite close to downtown Reno. Regular fee is about $60 and worth it.

Played in tournament 8/17/2015; 8AM shotgun, temp in high 80's at finish. Very little wind.

Course was in good shape. Little damp at start. Pleasant to play with no real wind.

Greens were good, but felt a little spongy. Consistent medium fast on each green. Quite a few bare spots on fairways and in rough. Will be better as it cools off for the fall.

Nothing has really changed here in the last couple years. Gas carts with ball washer and ice chest. Marshals are around often and are quite helpful. Beverage service was also regular and pleasant.

Good place to play at a decent price around $55. If you can get a discounted rate, even better. Wind blows here often, especially in the afternoon. But we had a no wind day which made for a very nice round. Need to be aware of the mountain effect on approach shots and putting.

Played 8/10/2015. 9AM shotgun, temp in the 70's, variable light wind.

Second round here this year. The course conditions are quite good. Greens are the best feature -- smooth, quite firm, consistent speed from hole to hole. Fairways are also fine, rough is getting thick and bunkers can be exploded from. Teeing areas are not good -- some undulations and not much grass.

Course plays pretty long from the regular (black) tees at 6300+. Some narrow tee shots out of tree-lined chutes. Plenty of tule areas if you are spraying the ball.

Course amenities are mostly non-existent. No ice chests, no ball washers, no GPS on carts. No bathrooms on course (a couple port-a-potties), but plenty of wooded areas for the males. Range balls are extra; mats only which are bouncy and uneven.

Beverage cart was around often. Decent restaurant area with acceptable food and beverage prices.

Normal green fees are around $85. Probably not worth it unless you are stuck in South Lake Tahoe and cannot get down to Reno, Carson City or Dayton. We paid $45 which included the range balls and a nice after round buffet and a beer. That was worth it.

Played 7/13/2015 at 8:30 shotgun. Temp in 70's with not much wind.

Hey, it's a muni. Schlep your own bag. Bring your own towels and GPS. Range balls are extra -- mostly dirt to hit from. Small putting green. Bar and food are OK. People are friendly. Ice chests on carts. Don't pay more than $40.

Greens were ok, a little bumpy and painfully slow (probably no more than 8).
Fairways were good and rough was thick. Bunkers are so-so. Tees somewhat beat up. Need to move the tee markers.

Beware that at least 7 holes have greens that have surfaces that you can't see on your approach shot. The yellow flags are for the golf course and the orange flags are for footgolf.

Just OK for our traveling golf group a couple times a summer, but I wouldn't make a special trip down from Reno to play here.

Played 6/29/2015 at 9:30. Temp pushing 90°. Very little wind and somewhat humid.

Water restrictions are clearly affecting this course. Fairways were green and brown. Rough was mostly brown.

But greens were good. Generally smooth, speed seemed to be about 10, but quite firm and hard to leave a ball mark.

This course is annoyingly hilly, so much so that most fairways do not allow carts within 100 yards of the green due to the steepness. Club selection is difficult and many greens are hidden from the fairway. Lots of slope in the greens so putting is also a problem.

Amenities are bare. Range balls are extra and you must hit off mats. Putting green is small. No beverage cart service on M/T/W. No bag service but carts allowed in parking lot. No ice chests on carts. Nice grill area with plenty of seating and some shade outside on a patio.

This is just a hard course. If you want a challenge at a reasonable price and don't mind the drought issues, it could be worth your trouble. But it is definitely not a fun course and not one that I would want to play every week -- once a year is fine. Be prepared for a lot of walking up and down hills.

Played 6/12/2015 at 7:45. Temp in 60's-70's. Light winds.

It's been six weeks since my last review of this course. Greens are now about as good as they can get. Very smooth and on the firm side, but you can get a ball to check and can leave a small divot.

Fairways have grown in nicely. Rough is also completely grown in and getting on the thick side. Tees are flat and have plenty of grass. Tee markers are moved quite often to allow recovery from daily play, especially on the par 3's. Bunkers still have a lot of small stones and are on the firm side although I managed to plug a 7 iron shot in a greenside bunker.

All of the other comments about this course remain the same. Really a good deal at $40. You will enjoy your round and be challenged.

Played 6/9/2015 at 8:00 shotgun tournament. Temps warm up to the 80's. A little wind increasing after noon.

Greens: best feature. Quite smooth. Few ball marks. But pretty slow -- probably between 8 and 9. NOTE: if there is a foothill right next to the green, your golf ball is not going to break toward the foothill.

Fairways: just OK, quite a few bare spots. But firm without being too dry. Very wide here.
Rough: quite long and thick. To be avoided.
Bunkers: nothing but hard pan. A little muddy in the morning until they dry out.
Tees: Not the best. Pretty thin with lots of bare spots. Tee required even on the par 3s.

No changes from my review last summer as to carts, service, practice facilities and the like. OK place to play at a very reasonable rate. This is not Tahoe resort golf; this is Carson City muni golf.

Played 5/31/2015 in a tournament. 8:30 shotgun. Temp in high 60's, pretty gusty winds.
Course is much better than its sister Ranch course two miles down the road.

Greens are very smooth. Somewhat slow (around 9). But quite consistent and no brown spots even in the fringes.
Fairways are generally good with some brown spots. Rough starting to get long and the ball tends to sit down. Bunkers are OK, but somewhat firm. Overall course condition is very good.

Course is a challenging layout. Good mix of short and long holes. Wind will blow on most days whichadds to the difficulty. One of the better courses to play in the Carson City area. Green fees are quite high relative to the other courses in the area.

Cart staff loads your clubs, beverage cart was around regularly. Snack bar at the turn next to the driving range. Range balls are extra, but range is grass, with a chipping area. Small putting green near the first tee.

Restaurant and bar have reopened. But it seems to me that $5.50 is a little strong for a draft beer. Overall a good golfing experience, but quite pricey compared to the other courses in the area. I'd really like to play this course one time when the wind doesn't blow.
