If you can't get on Nanea or Kukio, Mauna Lani is the next best option. Resort course, with excellent conditions. Greens were a little slow, but not terribly out of the ordinary. From the clubhouse, to the course, this is worth a stop.

Book directly through the pro shop, as they have the same or cheaper rates than the Hawaii golf booking services. Two of us played in 2:45 @ 2 p.m. $175/pp, out the door, tax, title, and tags.

Pretty much everywhere in San Diego county is moist due to all the rain. Steele Canyon seems to be the lesser evil during the rainy season.

Course is absolutely beautiful dormant. We played Canyon/Ranch. Greens are running a little slower than normal due to the saturation, so if you're used to the 11 or baked out 12+, this will be a small adjustment in breaks.

Pace of play is excellent, as usual. Staff always amazing.

The rough is extra violent right now. Fairways are FIRM, and the greens are rolling.

This is the most fun I've had at Arrowood since we've been playing here, for years.

The course is in GREAT shape. The only issue is the hacks that aren't repairing their ball marks.

Played the Vineyard sunday, 7:45am and was walking off 18 around noon. I know some people have complained about pace of play, but lately, we haven't had an issue, and I'm a gigantic complainer when it comes to PoP.

That being said, the greens are in great shape. Excellent job to the grounds crew. Everyone seems to be repairing pitch marks for the most part - but I have to say, they are doing a great job at keeping the greens in almost excellent condition.

Fairways are ok, and we haven't encountered any issues with bare spots or mud. We did play the day after rain, and the course seemed to have drained quite well. Tee boxes are in good condition, and can probably be attributed to the wideness the crew has spaced the markers.

All-in-all, good value.

Cliffnotes: Worth the money, but the drive is horrible. They just need to dynamite a road straight to Borrego from San Diego region. If you read Johnny's previous review, I'll pretty much piggyback on that - re: the playing conditions.

Today, we had 40mph sustained winds with upwards of 50mph gusts. Almost made the course unplayable, as in - my 3i usually gives me 220; today I had a 165 approach shot and came up about 10 yards short of the green. On 18, I had 126 in - my 8i gives me 158, and I came up about 10 yards short on that, as well. The ball was ballooning like I've never seen.

That being said, the course is in decent shape. The greens are pure, but are getting slightly beat-up due to people not fixing pitch marks. Traps are in fantastic shape; I was able to pick a 5 iron out of a fairway bunker and had no issues (sans wind, lol).

IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING ANYTIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE - the pro shop said this is the most wind they've had since the re-opening. Also, they've never had an issue with frost, but they are expecting to, starting on Wens. of this week. Make sure you check the weather - if you catch RH on a windy day, it wont matter how well your ball striking is or how far you hit the ball - it is brutal.

HEADS UP - Many of the greens have been vandalized by an ATV. Very unplayable until further notice, unless you want to do some practice rounds.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves; the course is immaculate. First time playing here. POP - 1:30 tee... walking off around 5:30.

Fairways - hard and fast. Was getting easily 30+ yards of roll out of them.
Greens - Amazing. They were punched back in March, and healed great. Consistent and ROLLING.
Bunkers - Above average. I had fairway and greenside shots, and was able to execute well.
Staff - very friendly.

The course layout is really fun. Got punished on a few holes for not laying up, but we had fun, and we'll play the course more strategically when we return. Def recommend if anyone is thinking about this one!

Again... look at the pictures. No filters - straight upload from my phone.

Every Wednesday, my buddy and I are able to tee off at 3pm and be done in about 2:30. Def. under three, but I would not expect that pace on a weekend. I play a lot of courses in and around San Diego, and the condition of Eastlake would be in the above average class, at this point in our "State of Emergency" drought. They use reclaimed water, and have wood chipped many places that are not ball landing areas.

Fairways are in great condition. I've never had a poor or questionable shot. Surprisingly, many people fix their divot marks on the fairways.

Greens are always in good condition - only thing is, many will run at different speed. One will be lightning fast, then the next will play like a muni par 3. Lines hold true, though.

Bunkers are okay. Not fluffy, but not hard pan either. Both fairway and greenside bunkers are playable.

Here is the thing about Eastlake - the "Eastlake Bounce." The course funnels shots back towards the fairway. So you are rarely punished for a bad shot, ESPECIALLY off the tee. Additionally, after playing here every week, we've learned that the uphill par 3 on the front, and the two par 3's on the back are at least two clubs extra. There are a few par 4's that are extra club two. Don't let the small breeze fool you, it's a distance killer.

Overall, this facility plays as close to private/country club as you can get for open tee times. To date, this course is holding excellent conditions. From the tee to the green, overall is a 10+. Although, this course is not easy; I reminisce this track plays close to Lost Canyons in Los Angeles. We drove from downtown San Diego to play this track.

Tee shots need to be dialed in, as there is no trickle effect or member bounce to be had on this track. Many times, tee shots, and even approach shots, are taken through a small opening of overhang. Not ridiculously punishing, but enough to make it interesting.

Approach shots are where the first-time player will get in trouble… to be long is to be gone. Many of the greens sit island style, with long or errant side shots off into the vegetation. I ended up playing all my approaches to the front of the green and it made a dramatic difference on the back side. Greens are in great condition. Putt true, speed reminiscent to those at Salt Creek; pretty quick, but okay.

The club house is what you'd expect from a true Club style facility, IF you're used to playing private clubs. Although, pack water; there's only one water station on the whole course and we only saw the cart girl once. But to be fair, there was barley anyone on the course. To my next point - we played Sunday, 1:20… and not a soul on the course. I know we had a threesome behind us, but it was wide open. Pace of play was excellent. We got in just around four hours.

If you don't have a laser, you'll spend some time trying to figure out your shots. GPS is so-so, but the reception was not good enough for accurate readings. Like a fool, I didn't ask for a yardage book at the clubhouse, but they have them for players, and they will help - IMMENSELY.

The clubhouse was fantastic, the food was good and the service was what I've experienced at private/country clubs, form the pro shop to the bar. Will be back, for sure.

This course was awesome to play. The fairways are immaculate - very well kept and maintained, as is the rough. The course is in great condition - everyone replaces/fills divots.. rakes the traps.. fixes ball marks on the greens, etc.
The pace of play was a little sluggish, but the course is in such great condition, you don't seem to notice. The staff and customer service is excellent.
The only thing that I did not like was the 'temporary' greens they had on hole one, and another on the backside (can't remember which hole).
Overall 10/10 and would play/recommend playing this course.
