Played 1/7/2020 and off about 10 minutes after scheduled tee time.

Course is in great shape. Fairways are full and lush with great lies throughout. The greens are particularly smooth and rolling FAST. Rough not very penal at the moment. For my money, Balboa provides just about as interesting round with a variety of shots and a challenging walk for exercise as you can find in San Diego.

Only knock would be PoP, which was close to 5 hours. Other than that, I don't think there's a better value right now.

Played in a 2-day tournament with the Veterans Golfers Association 10/1 and 10/2.

I like to think I've played a variety of golf courses in my time. However, to say Chambers Bay is unique is the understatement of the century. I have not run in to any golf course like it. The staff was abundantly friendly during the entire tournament and gave the red carpet treatment.

We played the tips for my flight (~7100 yards) and that was more than I could handle, especially with the wind and rain the first day.

The tees and fairways were great - no complaints at all. I believe it was fescue grass in the fairways, which is a little different than the poa we are used to down in SoCal, so that took a little adjustment.

Fringe and general rough is almost non-existent, which actually (in my opinion) made the course more difficult as it did not "catch" balls around the greens and fairways, and thus allowed many shots to roll into various bunkers or collection areas.

The bunkers were well maintained, which was surprising, as there are over 90 (yes, ninety) acres of sand traps on the course. I found my fair share...

The layout is such that it would take about 3 or 4 times of playing it solidly to learn all the nuances. Additionally, though there were many elevation changes, the walk was not difficult at all and very enjoyable.

The greens rolled very well and were not nearly as controversial as they played for the 2015 Open. The green complexes were very VERY tricky with some pin locations, and our group found that even a 3 putt was sometimes a reputable feat.

As for the scenery - you can't beat it. It really is THAT beautiful. I highly recommend the course, and was told by the locals that this time of year is the best to visit in terms of scenery and price.

Played in the morning of 8/7. Showed up as a walk on and was put on the tee right away.

This was my second time playing here and I must say I enjoy the course, especially for the value. The course itself is pretty flat since it is located on an air base, but there is enough diversity in hole shapes and/or lengths to make things from getting too repetitive. Dollar for dollar, I don't think there are greens anywhere in San Diego that roll truer than these. The fairways are a little patchy right now with the drought, but not terrible. I wasn't in any bunkers, but the ones that my playing partners were in were well manicured and seemed to have more than enough sand in them.

With the course being relatively flat, it's very walkable. Pace of play was excellent, water stations were ample, and the course ranger was out and patrolling without intruding.

Highly recommended for anyone that can get access!

Was fortunate enough to play this course over the weekend. I cannot stress enough how enjoyable the course was and how hospitable the staff was.

The course: A great layout (as expected from a Pete Dye design) with a great mix of holes. The conditions were superb, even for the extremely hot, windy and dry climate. I was really surprised at how few dry patches their were. The greens, although firm, were lush and rolled true.

The staff: They were extremely helpful from check in through the end. Range balls were included in the green fees, and the grass range really helped prior to the round. Starter got us out on time and a marshal helped move groups along nicely.

As far as staying at the resort, I highly recommend it as well. The villa rooms were very reasonably priced and were perfect for a group of golfing buddies looking to get away for the weekend, with grills included in each room.

Played 9/4. First time at the course and really enjoyed myself. Ended up playing with an employee (Steve) and a few of his buddies which was a real treat.

Tees and fairways were full and very well watered. Rough was not thick or penalizing at all. Wasn't in a bunker, but they all looked to have enough sand.

Greens were great! They were very receptive and rolled true. I thought they had decent pace, but the guys in our group said they were really slow for some reason. Would hate to see them when they are fast!

Interesting layout. I enjoyed the front 9 much more than the back, but both were very nice. Back 9 was a little more tricked up and full of blind shots, but nothing outrageous.

If you've never been, I highly recommend it. If you don't stress over scoring your first time out, and learn the lay of the land, I could see this as a really fun "regular rotation" course.

One last note: I love to walk and wouldn't walk this course if you paid me. Cart is included in the green fee - use it!

Played 5/14 in a twosome. POP was 2:40. That's right, 2 hours 40 minutes. Not a soul in front or behind. I love MM's layout and the playing conditions are very good right now especially for the price.

Fairways and greens were immaculate. Tees weren't bad. Rough was not penal at all.

You absolutely cannot beat this deal, especially during the week. Highly recommended!

Played 5/13 at 240PM with a golfnow deal for $50.

The good: Fairways and tee boxes were thick, full and lush. Rough was lush but not penal at all.

The not so good: Greens were HARD and didn't accept well-struck shots. POP was painfully slow as the course was packed with a tournament.

Verdict: The layout isn't too bad, and the greens roll pretty true. I wouldn't pay much more than 50 bucks for a round, especially on a weekend where pace of play is an issue.

Played in the first group off on 26 April. Torrey South is in outstanding shape for just having punched the greens almost two weeks ago. My guess is the greens will be at 100% by next weekend.

Tees and Fairways: Lush. No problems at all.

Rough: Looked as if it had been cut late last week (probably Friday). It was the perfect amount of penal vs. playable.

Bunkers: Not bad, especially for having rained the night before. Sand was heavy, but could still slide a club beneath the ball.

Greens: Only one seemed to be eaten up still (#18), but was well on it's way to healing. The rest were holding shots and rolling very well.

All in all, I'd say Torrey South is back and is worth the fees again.

Played just before noon on 27 March. Called on my way home to see if they had any openings and the gentleman on the phone got me out right away! Staff was very helpful and friendly throughout. I was impressed by this well-run and classy organization.

Crossings puts a premium on target golf, especially when it's dry. If the wind is up, I can see it being downright difficult to play. If you're having trouble hitting the fairway, bring a few extra balls. As for today: Tees, fairways, and greens were great! Very few bare spots throughout. The greens were absolutely pure today, and held solidly struck shots.

The only knock I have on the course is the bunkers. There was no sand in them. Out of the ~10 shots my partners and I hit out of them, 9 of them were bladed because there was no way to get the club under the ball.

All in all, the positives far outweighed the negatives and I will definitely be back.

Note: For those that like to walk, the course only allows you to ride. If you're a single, you'll be paired up with another player in your group in the same cart.
