Played Coyote Springs on a Wednesday in June. Yeah it was hot. Very hot. But Coyote Springs was worth enduring the temp's for. First rate across the board.

The GOOD - just about everything. The course is in excellent shape. Pure. Tee to green, it's probably the BEST CONDITIONS I've seen in the greater Las Vegas area, short of the premium courses (e.g. Cascata, Shadowcreek, Wynn). TEES are level, relatively divot free, with great coverage. FAIRWAYS with very few exceptions are nearly perfect. Lush and pure. One hole on the back (maybe 11) had some weird burnout areas where something was spilled on the fairways and tracked by course vehicles. The ROUGH is consistent, thick, and penal to play from when hitting long or mid-irons. The GREENS are probably the best I've putted on in town. Appropriately sized given the length of the hole with some huge complexes, some others with subtle contours and breaks, still others with big benders and slope, and only one gimmicky green (think it's #14 - they could bulldoze that one and it would improve the hole. But it's "interesting" and memorable for sure). The PRACTICE FACILITY is - I sound like a broken record - the best in the Las Vegas area. Period. Huge range. Huge. Plenty of targets. Plenty of balls. Chipping and putting greens - check. The SERVICE was excellent, save maybe for the starter (below). The GOLF SHOP guys, GUEST SERVICES afterwards, and BEV CART girl were on point. Especially the bev cart girl - friendly and helpful throughout (we saw her five times). We ordered hot dogs on #12 and were eating them by #15. She even apologized for taking "too long" which didn't feel like the case from our end. And having ice chests with cold bottled water in the tunnels was a great touch. With no water on the course, this was very much appreciated. First rate. The COURSE DESIGN is fantastic. Demanding par-3's throughout. Some easier driving holes, others that get your attention on the tee. Some very long holes that require a big poke, and other short holes where you can catch your breath. But typical Jack, he flashes bunkers in your face and cut-ins to distract your attention or distort your perception. Plenty of risk reward holes too... wider landing areas when shorter off the tee but leaving longer approach shots, and conversely squeezing the longer tee balls for those looking for a shorter second shot. The COST is excellent given what you experience.

The "MEH" - While the service was excellent overall, both guest services prior to play and the starter fell short. Both were a little short of personality and gave only cursory assistance. Far from rude though. Because it is in BFE, there is something lacking in FACILITIES area. There aren't much of them. Can't think this can be helped given the situation out there, but the level of the course begs for a similar experience with the clubhouse/restroom areas. All were serviceable, clean, and well stocked but just not at the level of the course. The RANGE BALLS were less than ideal. Given the all grass range, I was anticipating better balls. Could've been a year old for all we knew.

The BAD - LOCATION. When they used to say "minutes from the Strip," they meant hours. At least it seemed that way... driving out in the middle of nowhere (BFE). In reality, it's just over an hour from central Vegas. And that's when you're already on the highway. Plan accordingly. And the property is definitely OVERGROWN in areas. It doesn't really come into play, but it just looks unkempt. Again, given their situation it is not likely this can be helped fully.

It took me eight years to finally play Coyote Springs, and now I'm kicking myself for not have taken the trek north before. It is among my favorite golf experiences in the Las Vegas area. Go play it - you will not be disappointed. Is it worth the drive? Maybe not regularly because d%mn , it is way out there. But once you're there, you'll forget all about the long car ride.

Played the new Tuscany Golf Club on Tuesday, first time playing in years.
The GOOD - the course is in great shape. Not good but great. Some divot damage on the par-3 tees and some inconsistent bunker sand, but aside from those the course is in the best shape in years. Tees, fairways, rough, and even detail work around the course is really dialed in. Kudos to the maintenance staff. Looks like the new owner is spending some money on the course. Guest services both before and after the round were good. Not a lot of urgency being displayed, but friendly and helpful.
The "Meh" - the starter did his job, if coming to the range and leading you to the first tee is the job. If you're looking for conversation, or looking for information like "pin position," then don't count on him. But with the course packing golfers out steadily in 8-minute intervals (see below), then maybe he can't really do much else. "Line 'em up, send them out!" The greens are very firm. Very firm. They're on the slower side but they're smooth and roll true. If you manage to have a ball mark (unlikely), careful of breaking your repair tool trying to fix it. The practice range wasn't amazing but serviceable. Range balls were okay, some in excellent shape and others worn smooth like a ping pong ball. Hitting off mats isn't much fun, but their mats are in decent shape. Gauging distance when hitting downhill 50 ft is tough but again, serviceable. The chipping green and putting green were good. The golf cart was in good shape with tees provided, but no towel. No bottled water on the cart either. And no GPS! Why no GPS?
The BAD - the pace of play was horrendous. Five plus hours is a long round, and especially on a somewhat easy course with lots of grass and not much trouble to get into. We literally waited on every shot on every hole. No exceptions. And no course marshall/ambassador/host to try helping the issue. Terrible. Also, we saw the beverage cart on hole #5 and not again the rest of the day. With pace of play and golfers standing around everywhere, hard to believe there wouldn't have a been a cart to buy drinks from.
SUMMARY - if you haven't played the old Tuscany course, get out and play it. You'll be amazed by the course conditions!

Played Boulder City Muni last week and thought it was great, especially for the low afternoon summer rate. Definitely recommended if you just want to go chase it around.

Service is what you'd expect-outside services kid (by himself) doing a little bit of everything, friendly when asked anything, but not overly helpful which is probably more because of everything he's doing than anything else.

Stopped in the restuarant/bar area to get some drinks, lady was very nice loading us up with cooler with ice for our drinks. There are no coolers on the cart, course does have one water jug on each side, but the snack shack on the backside was closed when we started and when we finished.

Golf shop help wasn't overly friendly or enthusiastic but again, far from rude too so perfectly fine for us.

Range had decent balls and being a weekend, the grass part of the range was open. Longish tee area but good coverage, and the chipping and putting greens are good.

BSGC is just an old school course with parallel holes, built up greens throughout, and apart from #8 and #11, there aren't any real trickbag holes to speak of. Lots of tall mature trees everywhere, bunkers were in average to good shape, the rough deep and brutal to get out of consistently, and greens slow but relatively smooth considering we started mid afternoon.

No trouble areas to speak of except for the 11th green, which looks like they might be losing entirely. Apart from that and a couple burn out spots on the fairways here and there, the course is in good shape for the high desert in August.

La Purisima strikes again. I returned to my old stomping grounds, only to get reminded how tough this course is.
Service was good. Girl that checked us in was great. The marine layer hung around longer and more densely than I expected, so when I needed to buy a long sleeve she gave me a discount. I appreciated the gesture, as she said because she knew I didn't really want it but needed it.
Practice range was a little beat up but balls were fair to good. And of course the practice chipping and putting greens were perfect. Definitely gave me a hint of what was in store on the course.
The course is in very good shape. The fairways as lush and full as I remember them. Greens were very firm, but they held shots from the fairway. From the rough not so much but I think that was more a result of the thick wet rough than the greens. You just can't score or at least score well from the rough - controlling distance and trajectory from the rough, given the huge elevation changes is near impossible.
Tee boxes were excellent except for the par-3's. Three of the four had massive divots and especially #3 - hopefully the staff stacks up the tees on one box for periods at a time so it gives the others a break.
The greens weren't scary fast, but fast enough to make some of the pin locations absolutely impossible. I even had a couple missed putts horseshoe and come back at me after passing the hole. But as smooth and clean as they are, get a putt started on the right line at LaP and it's going in. Good luck finding that line though.
Overall, I still have only played a few places which offers the bang for the buck that LaP does. But adjust the expectations and plan on getting stomped on, because LaPiranha will knock you down a peg or two if you're off your game. I saw something in the shop that their "Impossible Open" was coming next month, but any day at LaP is near impossible for me.

Played Soule Park on Sunday afternoon.

Checking in the golf shop was great. Very friendly. Good way to start off the day.

Practice range had a lot to be desired, with damp to wet grass on the tee. Balls weren't great either with worn balls and some being pretty dirty/muddy still. But it did the trick before the round.

This is the first time I've played Soule in years and realized after starting they reverted to the old routing, and tweaked certain holes (specifically #8 tee, added bunkers added on several fairways, and flipped #17 and #18). I like the original routing so I think these changes were good.

Overall tees and fairways were good, the latter being thin in some areas but overall pretty good. The tees were solid, with only a couple either sanded (e.g. #6) or just a little thin. Watch the power lines from the back tees on #5. Start your ball too high and risk a high wire act right out of bounds.

The greens were very soft and showed some signs of the recent aerification. While pretty slow (maybe 8.5), they were smooth and rolled true. The practice green was faster than most of the greens on the course, but at least they were consistent. And the one operational putting green being shared with the 9th green was an interesting experience. The greens at Soule are way more undulating than I remember. Precise distance and direction were key to staying in the right quadrant, because even w the slowness of the greens you didn't want to be in the wrong area.

Layout is player friendly, with lots of room on most holes. Toughest stretch easily comes in holes 5-8. Brutal back-to-back holes on 5 and 6, but the par-5's offset the tough ones with good chances for birdies. A similar stretch of tough holes comes on the back, holes 12-15 provide a tough test with the green on the short #13 keeping you honest. Soule is just a good course to hit it, find it, and hit it again.

Pace of play was a little tough. 4.5 hours for an afternoon starting time, with waiting on most holes. But it was a beautiful Ojai day with a slight breeze, so no complaints.

Food & beverage staff were very friendly too, both in the snack bar and in the restaurant so overall the staff provided a good experience. Didn't see a beverage cart.

Played Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale over the weekend. What an enjoyable round.
The practice area is fantastic and exactly what you'd expect from a venue that hosts a tour event. Large chipping and putting greens, and of course excellent grass on the practice range.

Although we did play from the blue tees and the greens were not rolling at tournament speed, the course itself is not overly hard. Medium to short par-4's abound, the the par-3's aren't punishing either. But very deep bunkers come into play on most holes and should be avoided. But when you're in them, the sand is definitely playable.

The tees were phenomenal and rough for the most part good. They warned us on the carts about "transitioning" course conditions, but nothing unexpected at the end of the good season. Greens were smooth and receptive with most clubs in the bag. They rolled a consistent 10-10.5 so not scary fast, but quick enough for us average players. The greens weren't designed with trickbag undulations or swales, but just subtle breaks and gradual tilts that made them a joy to putt on. Fairways were very good as well so overall, the course was in good shape.

It was really fun playing holes that I've seen on television numerous times, and most sure do look different in person than on TV, missing the grandstands like the ones surrounding #16.

The service overall was good with the highlights being the starter and outside supervisor. The snack girl and kids outside after the round needed some personality; they weren't rude, just a little dry.

I have to say the worst thing about the property is the golfers inability or unwillingness to take care of the course. I have never seen more unkept bunkers, to the point that it looked like guys were practicing in them and then leaving them without cleaning up. It really was embarrassing. And the greens were pelted with unrepaired ball marks which is a shame because the greens were in good shape. Can't fault the course for us golfers not taking care of the properties we play.

Go play TPC Scottsdale-you will enjoy the round for a lot of reasons. Just don't forget to rake your bunkers and repair those marks. Lol.

Played Tuscany on 05/08/12 and overall the course is in excellent shape. They had just punched the greens which we didn't know about until we got out there, but even then most of the greens putted pretty well.
The guys in the shop were good and the staff outside excellent, but the girls in the snack shop not as much.
Pace of play was good; played in 4 hours with groups in front and behind, but we kept moving along. I appreciated seeing the marshall driving around checking on us.
If you haven't played Tuscany before, I recommend it. All the par 3's are long enough to leave wedge in the bag, but not so brutal where you're hitting fairway wood and hoping for a bogey. The par 4's are straight forward and not terribly long, but #9 and #18 are tricky. And the par 5's are reachable for the mid to long hitter so overall it's a player friendly course. It's a fun layout with lots of room for sprayed tee shots.
Although Tuscany is on the far east side of town, it's worth the drive.
