Out at 6:55 AM after a couple of days of heavy rain. The course has drained relatively well and the maintenance crews had already done the greens. I was impressed. This course presents various challenges that need to be carefully managed: traps, water, sloping and false front greens, and overhanging trees. Carts have GPS. Highly recommended. The only thing missing was a friendly welcome from the clubhouse staff.

This is a scenic and well-designed course featuring dramatic elevation changes, ample greenside and fairway bunkers, water hazards, elevated greens, and a double dogleg hole. Many of the holes are memorable. Woodpeckers and songbirds abound.

The ambience is friendly and relaxed, beginning with the helpful and courteous clubhouse staff and starter. Great practice facility. The clubhouse and proshop are pretty limited, but who cares about that!

While the course sits in an upscale housing development, there are houses on only a few holes, and they are far enough away from the fairways that it is not an issue.

I come back to this area as often as I can, specifically to play Darkhorse.

I got a great online twilight rate for a mid-afternoon tee time in October. I got the 18 holes in, finishing at dusk.

What a beautiful setting, what a beautiful course. Course was in fine condition: tees, greens, fairways. I found many of the holes interesting, and found the course challenging but playable for players of differing skill levels. For the most part you could see what you were shooting at. That's important in a resort course where many people are playing once only.

Service was tremendous and there are lots of nice touch amenities included. I look forward to coming back.

A beautiful 9 hole course by Alister MacKenzie (from 1928). The giant redwoods make this a one of a kind golf course. The hole layouts and green complexes are not that interesting.

Apple Mountain is a wonderfully scenic course, with interesting holes winding through ravines and over hilltops, and bordered with large trees. Despite the radical terrain, there are few blind shots except for a couple into elevated greens. Go to their website and check the first tee webcam to get a good feel for the place.
