I last played CMR CC back in about 2016. I must have forgotten that I said "I would never play this course again" 2 years ago. At the end of the round yesterday, I said "I will never play this course again." Hopefully in 2020, I will remember it this time.
Before I go in to why I hate this course, I would like to point out that the overall layout of the course is really nice. It makes you hit lots of different types of shots which is nice. The customer service and bar area are also good parts of CMR CC. I also understand why they did the turf reduction but I think they screwed it up in most ways (more to follow later).
The bad: The tee boxes are always awful. The rough is non-existent. The bunkers were atrocious as always. The greens are unforgiving and do not hold good shots. Most of my shots end up rolling to the back of the green (even the high wedge shots). The greens also have way too much going on with them. The course is already hard enough but when you have greens with that much break and slope, you add 30 minutes to the pace of play, which was already about 5 hours and 15 minutes. No marshals are ever in sight.
Yesterday, there was a 6-some (i assume 2 groups of 3 joined forces) but we had to follow them for 6 holes until something could be said to the starter at the turn. That's ridiculous.
The turf reduction: I reiterate that I understand why they did it but there are quite a few holes that have a severe slope in the fairway and to completely remove the rough means that any slight mis hit is an automatic OB because there is nothing stopping the ball.
My 3-some all walked away from the course saying none of us would be back. It was that bad.» Close
