Our group got out just after 9am and finished in just under 4hrs. It was a beautiful day for golf in Pasadena. Its been over 3yrs since I played here and the price for a weekend round w/ cart is $70!! $55 if you walk. Not a good value considering there are courses in the Griffith Park area that are much cheaper to play. The good thing here is that the course was green and lush. The fairways were in great shape w/ only a few brown spots. The rough ranged anywhere from 3-5 inches and was inconsistent throughout the course so you don't know what type of lie you get if you find yourself in there. Sand looked soft and fluffy. Greens were fast and putts rolled very true but there seems to be a problem with other types of grass growing on them.

Course #2 is short and straight. You get the uneven lie here and there but most lies will be flat. A couple of fairways were narrow but wide open for the most part. There are a few very short par 4s but club selection is key on these holes. The drink girl was seen on the 1st few holes but disappeared for the rest of our round. Overall, I enjoyed my round here but I feel the price tag on this course is too high. I payed less than half that fee for a round at Harding the other day.

Played on Friday July 25th. Course is in fair shape. Tee boxes OK. Fairways had some bare spots but not too bad. The rough is thick in places and you could have difficulty finding your ball. The greens are in good shape. They are pockmarked because players are not fixing their pitch marks. We had a 6:15AM tee time, and pace of play was excellent, as we finished our round in under 4 hours. Not a long course, but challenging with some narrow fairways, small greens, and undulated greens.

Played afternoon of 7-19. The round was pleasant, but the course is not in good shape. Tee boxes were banged up, fairways were shaggy, the rough was high and very uneven, and the greens were seriously pockmarked. Some of the fairways had significant dry patches (which isn't really a big deal to me given the drought), but even worse, there were areas of what looked like tire damage. In May, the course was in fantastic shape, but 2 months later, it's a completely different story.

a.m. tee off on Sun, May 4. The course is in pretty good shape. Several of the blue tee boxes are roped off for conditioning, probably in advance of the Pasadena City. Some of the tee boxes in use have a little divot damage, but not too severe. The fairways are in very good shape, but I wish they'd mow them a little tighter. The new fairway bunkers are a nice addition, and really squeeze some landing areas for longer hitters. The greens are in better than average shape too, although a few were a little bumpy around the hole. The only complaint I have is that a fair number of the holes were damaged. It appears that some players don't like to reach in the hole to pick up their ball; instead, they use the toe of their putter to try and pop the ball out of the hole. Of course, this doesn't always work but usually damages the sides of the hole. If you're one of these people, CUT IT OUT!

Played today 4-19-08. The course is in pretty good shape - I give it a B+. Tee boxes are fine, the fairways are a little shaggy, and the greens are just a tad bumpy. Also, beware of the grass surrounding the new bunkers - it's grown a little higher and is quite heavy.

The course is in really good shape right now. The rebuilt bunkers have a good quality sand in them. The old bunkers are crap. The construction-grade sand is hard pack. Use a wedge with no bounce to get out of these crud holes. Fairways & greens were very nice. However, $38 to walk is a bit pricey. Good pace of play though.

Leave the driver at home if you have any length off the tee. The smartest play on this shorter course is just 3 and 5 woods off the tees.

played early morning 2-17-08. As some of the other reviewers noted, the course is undergoing some renovation - basically, some of the bunkers are being replaced/relocated and re-shaped. I think they are going to look great once they're finished. Even with some of the ongoing work, the course is playing just fine. The greens were surprisingly smooth and very fast - we just couldn't leave anything above the hole today. NOTE TO AMERICAN GOLF: if a customer checks in early and willing to pay right away at the window, and there are no other customers in line and ready to serve, what is the purpose behind NOT taking their money right away and recalling them to the window later, only to make them possibly wait in a line?

Played Sat 02/09. Like gmoore91106 said, course is undergoing an extensive reconstruction. First we could not figure out why there were people on our fairway. But after few holes, they didn't bother us at all. Greens are very good. Bunkers are OK. It was just a beautiful day to play golf that nothing bother us at all. We were all happy to be out. This is short course but has well placed fairway bunkers and green side bunkers to give you some challenge.

I played an incomplete evening round today. The E.O Nay course is currently undergoing an extensive reconstruction. Several of the fairway bunkers are either being filled in to become extensions of the rough or are being reshaped. Golfers have to be look out for numerous workers along the fairways as a consequence, at least during weekdays. (We had to suspend play a couple of times while trucks crossed the fairway.) The greens were fairly fast and challenging. Tee boxes were in good shape. Fairways were still green, unlike some of the other courses in the area where the draught and consequent water restrictions have resulted in the fairways browning. The pace of play this late Friday afternoon was not too bad, and our group managed to make the turn in just under 2.5 hours.

Played Saturday 1/18/08 (6:50 am) Cold!, but it was like having the course all to yourself. We finished in about 3.5. Just get to your ball and hit it. Greens are as fast as I have seen them and the rest of the course is in good shape for this time of the year.

Played 1/19 this course is long and the greens are very unforgiving. Do not leave your approach shot above the hole. I would guess the greens are running around an 11 or 12 on the stimp. Fun course with puttin adventures!!! Also remember everything breaks towards the Rose Bowl.

Played 1/18. Still lots of bottle caps and grass burns from the rose bowl game but the course is recovering nicely. They seem to be making some course improvements by adding and refurbishing some of the bunkers. This will be a great addition when it's completed. The fairways are fairly nice for the most part and the greens are in fairly good condition and fast. The pace of play was very, very slow but I guess that was to be expected when teeing off anytime after 11:00 am.

played mid-day 11-17-07. The course was pretty good shape. The tee boxes were fine, the rough was fairly uniform, and the fairways were in very good condition. The only negative was the greens. They were smooth, but very slow. It was difficult to get a feel for the pace all day. The only other negative goes to American Golf. Not only do they just pack the fivesomes in without any regard to the pace of play, but they also let friends of the fivesomes follow along in additional carts. One group ahead of us consisted of FIVE carts. That's not golf, it's the Indy 500. Pathetic.

Played in Scramble Tournament. Give course another 2-3 weeks to get completely healed from areation. Greens are BUMPY. Easy enough to read greens but the skips and jumps you can do without. Fairways in good shape for this time of year. Very few bald spots. Tees in OK shape. Didn't hit any sand b/c we were in a scramble but it looks hard packed and easy to get out of. Pace of play was terrible as we were stuck behind a foursome that was SLOOOOW. Could have played through, actually should have, but it was a tournament and didn't want to ruffle their feathers. Overall nice day of golf only wish we could have made a few more birdies. Could have been possible if greens were smoother.

Played early sunday, 7/22. The course is in nice condition overall, with the exception of a few beat up tee boxes. Generally, the greens putted smoothly, and with the slope on them, you get a few sweepers to test your skills on. This is a nice course to pick up your confidence on.

Played Sun Jul 15. I had an enjoyable round, but the course conditioning was below average. The greens were actually good - a little slow - but fairly smooth. The rest of the course though was not very good. There were a lot of dry patches in the fairways and the rough was overgrown in many places. The tee boxes have gotten a little ragged too. I'm sure the lack of rain is affecting a lot of courses though.

Golfed here today but didn't get off to a good start. Had lunch in the restaurant and overheard the boss (Mike or Mark I think) not sure what the nametag said, being totally rude to some members or mens club guys. He acted like he didn't even care about their business, NOT COOL. Just listening to the things he said which I shouldn't have even heard at my table, totally irritated me about this place. I can't stand rude people that have NO tact. Anyway the course #2 as they say played well. Finished in 4-1/2 hours, not bad for getting out at one-ish. Not a bad rate either, I just hope the boss never acts as the starter or ambassador on this course. Also I hear that you should call ahead to make sure there's no tournaments.

Played Monday 7/2 afternoon twilight rates. Got out before the super twilight and linked up for a twosome. Wide open until the 11th where it started to backup a bit. After that it was a little slower but steady. Conditions were generally very good tee box and fairways. I play here rarely, but when I do the greens are usually quick. This day they were almost shaggy by comparison and definitely slower than the norm. Previous feedback mentioned punching. I didn't see signs of it, but might explain the length of grass on greens. Still enjoyable, but if they haven't trimmed them down, be advised.

Greens are recovering from being punched. They are slower than they look, so put a good stroke on it. Its a d%mn shame people can't fix their divots. I played course 2 yesterday, and one of the guys was surprised to see me fix another divot besides mine. I try to on every hole. I guess he felt guilty and started to do the same.

I live right near the Brookside courses...but I got burned-out on them years ago. I decided this morning to go check it out, seeing how the courses had just come through the Pasadena City Championships and were supposed to be in good shape.

Well....Old #2 is in great shape. I had forgotten just how tricky those little greens can be! They are running fast, true...not as smooth as they could be - but very nice! Spray-painted the most lovely shade of green, too! The fairways are mowed tight, but they are thick. The rough is long. Real long in spots. Watering patterns are uneven. Some places are downright soggy from over-watering.

There's a big ugly construction zone off the 14th fairway, surrounded by an orange fence. I could not figure out what was happening there.

Bunkers were O.K. - but - right beneath the surface sand was a wet clay-like material that was brutal.

Current GK rating might be a little low. I say it's a 6.8 to a 7.0.

PLAYED ON MEMORIAL DAY, HAD A $32 ALL YOU CAN PLAY SPECIAL. A BARGAIN FOR A HOLIDAY, PLAYED 27 HOLES.
COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION, THOUGH THERE WHERE SOME BEAT UP TEE BOXES, ALOT OF HACKING WITH NO COURTESY TO PUT DIVOT REPAI ON IT? WELL, THAT WHAT YOU GET ON A MUNI. BY SIDES THAT THE FAIRWAYS AND ROUGH ARE IN VERY GOOD PLAYABLE CONDITION, THOUGH SOME OF THE ROUGH AREA HAD ALOT OF BUMPS OR POT HOLES THROHGOUT THE COURSE. IF YOU KEEP IT IN THE SHORT GRASS, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. THE BUNNKERS ARE IN PLAY THROUGHOUT THE COURSE WHICH ARE STRATEGICALY PLACED. ALOT OF WHOLES MAY SEEM SHORT, BUT FROM THE TEE BOX, TREE OVER-HANG AND BUNKERS CAN EFFECT YOUR RESULT. THE GREENS ARE IN A GOOD SMOOTH AND MED-FAST ROLL.
IT WAS WORTH THE UNLIMITED PLAY FOR $32, BUT A BIT PRICEY OTHERWISE. I WOULD PLAY ON OCCASIONS, BUT I HAVE PLAYED BETTER COURSES FOR LOWER GREEN FEES.

best shape i have ever seen this course . greens could be alittle faster but not bad. only bad part is they put out to many people on the back nine. we were first off and caught up with back nine people on number eight. two of the foursome shouldn't even be on a golf course. after catching them we waited on almost every shot. played first eight holes in 1 1/2 hours and next ten holes in 2 1/2 hours.

Course is in good shape. Tee boxes were a little chewed up but other than that everything is in good shape. I do agree with some of the members that Brookside is little over price. I can't imagine paying $52.00 (including cart) when you can play at twilight or super now that it gets darker later. Super twilight is a good deal. You might not get 18 holes, but 15-16 holes is good enough for me!

I played #2 on 5.6.07. The course was is good shape however, it plays unbelievably slow... 2 hours to get through the first 4 holes and six hours to get through the round. If you are a groove player avoid this course. If you don't mind a long day you may want to check it out. Oh yah... bring a helmet. All the holes a close togther, I heard "FORE" all day long, balls coming from everywhere.

Overall I say it's a decent course that charges to much for a 6 hour round.

Played Sat. 05/12. It was a beautiful day to play golf. Fairways are very good. Practice greens were very fast but the actual greens were bit slow. Quite a few ball markers... I blame on players. Bunkers are OK. Overall average golf course. I still think they charge too much.
Other than that, had a great time.

Played here twilight 5-12-07. This course is being readied for the Pasadena City Championship next week, and the superintendent has done a tremendous job. The course is pretty immaculate. The tee boxes are in excellent shape with the exception of 2-3. The fairways are in tremendous shape; it's been a long time since they've been this tight and uniform. A couple of trees were ripped out on the first fairway, so there is some ground under repair (stumps) there. The rough is about medium height. The greens are in excellent shape - I played earlier in the day out at Oak Valley, and the greens at Brookside were just as smooth and just as fast. In fact, I've played here a long time and I've never seen the greens here in such great shape. Finally, the bunkers are in excellent shape too. Good job Mr. Superintendent.

Actually slow isnt enough of a word to describe the pace. for the $ it costs to play here they really should do something to help with the pace of play.

Played today and the course was in good shape. However, I couldn't believe my eyes on the first hole. Two guys in my foursome hit shots into the green and left divots. We all putted out and they walked off like nothing happened (and of course I fixed them). I'm surprised that people can't spend 10 seconds to fix them. Then on #8, it looked like a crime scene in one of the bunkers. Its a shame people can't take the time to fix these things...if they did, the course would be in better shape.

one more thing... the bunkers are super soft... hate that..

i had one ball bounce 3 times and roll in, and it was buried. i had another plug into the face of the bunker, like 90% of the ball. lost 3 strokes from the fluffy sand... not used to it. i guess some people would like that.

Played sat 3/31, 6:52 am, didn't tee off until 7:15. par for the course, pun intended. i can't remember the last time i had a brookside tee time and actually teed off within 15 min of the time. 4 1/2 hr round. anyways, course in excellent shape. fairways are as green as they've ever been. greens were surprisingly good... i think it's been 10 days since aerating, and they are 80% there. they cut the holes where the holes are mostly healed. not bumpy, a bit slower than usual, but perfect speed for me. i play here when someone makes a tee time. otherwise, not my first choice to play. overall, a good round on a course in great shape.

Teed off 2/17 at around 130 and barely squeezed in 18. Course condition rates a B. The greens were a little sandy and full of ball marks. As a result, putts were a little bumpy all day. The fairways were a little shaggy in spots, and all the blue tees were playing up as the back tee areas were roped off for maintenance.

Played Friday 1/5/07, course in fair shape except for all the beer bottle caps and BBQ burns on the fairways. Walk out and got put with three women, the youngest 58 and the oldest 78. We were behind four men (walking) that held up the course to the tune of over Five hrs. I just don't understand how it can take 5hrs. (two to three holes behind) to play course #2. These guys would all stand around and watch as one would hit, with the whole course having to suffer. Marshalls you got to be kidding!

Pin placements for the day were very tough. I hit some shots with 3 feet BUT above the hole with severe breaks and ended up no way to stop them or lag to hole. Made me(0.0 hc) look like a fool. But still shot a 73 from blues with 4 "3putt for birdie inside of 5 feet" greens

Played Sat. on a tournament. Short course but hole placements were interesting. If you able to putt well, you will get very good score. I would still prefer course #1 for the money. Fairways are OK but greens need improvements. I played here because of the tournament but I prefer other golf courses for $62 green fee.

Played Monday, 8/14. Splurged on a playing lesson for my wife (birthday) and went out with her and the pro (not from Brookside) as a three-some @ 9:00 am.

They were nice enough to give hime the professional courtesy and waive his greens fee.

The regulars generally seemed to favor the #1 course, so we were very fortunate to not only go as a threesome, but no one else in sight on #2 until a single caught us around the 6th hole. I had no sense of how busy it would be at that time, so it was a very pleasant surprise and allowed for a good lesson.

If it wasn't for the lesson, we could have played the round as quickly as we wanted with no one in front of us.

My play sucked that day, but the conditions were good. The only exceptions that come to mind were sprinkler/worker-soaked 12th and 15th, and a staked area on the 18th green. The maintenance worker hosing down the par-3 15th green seemed to have some passive-agressive issues. The pro was on the green with his tee shot. The worker seemed to make a point of hosing the stretch between his ball and the cup the whole time it took us to get to the green (no surprises or near misses to precipitate anything). I had a short approach from the left side of the green with the worker standing in the middle of the green in my obvious line of approach. He seemed conspicuously indifferent about turning of the hose for a moment or even moving off to the side from my only target area.

Must have woke up on the wrong side. Minor annoyance but highly atypical of any course workers I've seen.

Otherwise, things were good. The greens were the quicker side of medium pace vs. the quicker I've seen here on other occasions. Fairways were in nice shape.

It's not the day and tee time most people can take advantage of, so if you like Brookside and have a chance, it's a great time to play.

It's a bit of an indulgence, but I also highly recommend a exploring the notion of a playing lesson at least once in your golf life. My wife is a notch above novice in her play and it was huge for her. She was totally into it. While she was the focus, I also got some adjustments along the way, so it was virtually a two-for-one lesson.

By the last four holes I wasn't sucking anymore.

Teed off mid-afternoon today. The course is in B condition; it was better conditioned about 2 weeks ago. The fairways are a little shaggy, and many of the tee boxes were soggy. Perhaps this is due to the marine layer we've had for the last week - the sun hasn't come out much and there was a heavy drizzle all morning. Either way, your footing shouldn't be questionable on the tee. Also, the tee box on #18 was closed, and they established a temporary tee about 150yds ahead into the fairway. Some of the fairways had soggy spots too. The greens still are smooth and receptive - just don't expect the ball to release and roll much when sizing up your shot. Note to the course superintendant: can we prune the tree on the left side of the tee box on #11? Its branches hang over the left side of the tee box and in my opinion, comes into play when it shouldn't. Finally, while I like this course a lot, the experience would be enhanced if we could simply get a marshal, any marshal, to simply monitor the course and pace of play. Otherwise, why even bother having a marshal at all? It doesn't do me any good to see a guy riding in a cart and waving at me. Keep the wave, and enforce the pace of play instead.

Played early this afternoon. Well, no one could take the day off and play with me, so I went off as a single. One favorable consequence of playing alone is that I finished in 3:15 - and I walked. The course is in very good condition, relative to what I've seen from this course before. Management has done a good job of pruning trees, fixing tee boxes (although a couple of them still need some attention), and maintaining the greens. The pruned trees make the course even more playable and more aesthetically pleasing. It just doesn't look as sloppy anymore. The greens, while not quick, are smooth. It was a beautiful 73 degree day out here, and I'd recommend playing this course now - before the heat and football season. One other thing I noticed: the starters today were far more friendly and professional than what I've dealt with in the past. They weren't snotty or impetuous. Progress!

I played on 4/18/06, the conditions were nice and green. The rough was thick, because there's a tournament sometime this month at Brookside. The speed on the greens are different for about 6 holes. There were no severe divot marks on or off the greens.

Walk up (Friday 3/17) and starter said there is a threesome on the first fairway if you want you can join them and when you come back you can pay. So I did and we had a great time. Played in about 4 hrs., with a touch of rain on #18 fairway.

Played 3/2/06, walked up and got right out. started as two and finshed as four. Because of five old men it took 4.5 hrs (thay were THREE holes behind). Come on Brookside do something about this, it should not take more then 4 hrs. on a thursday. Course is in the best shape I have ever seen, and gitting better.

played the back 12 on 1/22 sunday am. really cold. Course in decent shape. Greens are smooth, but alot of the slopes are very severe and unfair. When you tap the ball from 5 ft, and it rolls 15 ft past the hole, that's unfair. Other than that, a decent round of golf, if you don't mind the waiting on every hole.

Generally when I make the long trip to Pasadena I play #1, which I had a time for. Got to the course (raining at the time) and nobody had teed off for almost 45min. When our 3rd person arrived, told the starter we were ready to go, but instead he told us that he had a group of eight which should go next. 15 min later the 8some had still not even teed off, so we decided to play #2 rather than wait behind these people. As we were leaving the course, we observed the final group of the 8some in the 10th fairway. (And we were done with 18!!) Given there was nobody there and we promised the starter we would hurry up and get out of their way, you would have thought he would have accommodated us. #2 was in nice condition, greens were fairly quick and smooth, and finished in 2:40min.

I've complained in the past about plenty. But there is one thing this course could do to improve. Open the clubhouse at 5:00am instead of 6:30 and have some god d%mn loud speakers in the clubhouse so you can hear your name being called while warming up with a cup of coffee or coccoa in the restaraunt-- So that way you don't have to show up at 4:00am to be first single on the waiting list and then be forced to have to wait outside in the cold for three f***ing hours before they finally call your name. Some people might say just go get your cup of coffee and go back outside. Well, in the time you go get your coffee they'll call your name three times and then your screwed without even knowing it. This has actually happened to me before.

What's the point of warming up on the range when it's fourty degrees outside? You simply will not get warmed up!!
What the hell do they have a clubhouse for anyway?!!
For christ sake make some use out of those couches sitting in the front lobby. Why not have a waiting list to sign-up on in the coffee shop every morning? That way when the sleepy starter staff finally moseys in at 6:00 am, your name will already be on a list that they can pick up when they grab their morning cup of coffee. I'm sick and tired of waitng out in the cold just to play some golf. USE THE CLUBHOUSE TO KEEP COLD PLAYERS WARM, AND GET SOME SPEAKERS INSTALLED INDOORS. GOD I HATE AMERICAN GOLF!!!!

I must admit that, overall, the course played fair. However our whole group thought the greens were painfully fast. The greens are very well guarded and some are postage stamp size. Just slightly over priced.

Brookside is always crowded, but usually you can find a decent pace and always play a unique 18. If you like wide open fariways (making it hard to lose balls) than Brookside is a great course for you. They even line the ravine with bushes and trees.

Course 2 was in pretty good shape considering Course 1 has been closed. Fairways had some brown spots, but since its Fall, it actually gives the course a cool look. However, it sucks when your trying to hit a pitch shot from 15-20yds off that. Greens were pretty good too. I didn't see to many pitch marks, but it looked like the greens had not been mowed for a couple of days. They were alittle slow-but nothing to b$tch about. Kudos to the beverage cart girl. After I had putted out on hole 2, I noticed that I left my wedge on hole 1. I asked her if she would mind getting it for me (I was walking) and she said no problem (even with a smile). I felt bad that I didn't have any cash to tip her, so next time I play, I'm gonna make sure I do.

Played course #2 in a golf tornament 9/21. The course was in o.k. condition, they're currently aerating course #1 and will soon aerate #2. It won't be soon enough because some of the greens were swiss cheese, a couple of them were just chewed up and spit out. Several of the tee boxes had some shadowing from the trees and were very soggy/muddy. Fairways were in decent condition (muni level). Starter was excellent and accomodated the tourney very well. I would go back just for the customer service. Maybe the conditions will improve after the aeration...

Played super twilight...teed off at 5 p.m. and got 14 holes (could of played more-but I wanted to catch the second half of Oak vs KC). Course was in pretty good condition considering there have been two UCLA games the last 2 weeks. I saw alot of beer bottle caps and charcoal (grills) in the fairways...still fairways were in good condition. Greens were ok...some greens there was alot of divots and others just a few. You still can't beat the price of twilight. I just hope Brookside tries to maintain the course during the course of football season. It would be a shame if they spent all that money and let it get torn up for the next 3 months.

Played super twight today....boy it was crowded. However, I thought course conditions on course 2 were better than course 1 (I played course 1 last week). Greens were in fairly good shape...I didn't see as many divots as I did on course 1. Fairways and Tee-boxes were were fair, its a shame that people can't fix their divots in the fairway/greens...I mean c'mon people it takes you an extra 10 seconds at the most. The starter did a good job getting me out....I hit about 20 balls on the range before my name was called....all in all...you can't the price of Brookside.

Good little value if you can actually score a tee time. Greens were unbelievably smooth. DIVOTS WERE FIXED! Some bare spots in the fairway but nothing really to complain about. TELL MANAGEMENT TO OPEN THE TOILETS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE AM!. I mean what will I do, steal a few rolls of precious toilet paper? Short of peeing in the bushes in front of the starter overall a nice spread with some challenging holes. Greens rolled very true and were receptive even under these really muggy conditions. Need more shade around tee boxes or was that Coyote Hills? Can't seem to remember. Overall though good value for money you spend. Play was swift as group behind was a threesome and they had trouble keeping up. Group in front disappeared after hold 5. Great time.

Played in the afternoon on Jul 21. Hadn’t played this course in at least 6 years. Not much has changed. Greens are still very small and undulated. Lots of mature trees to make you shape your shots. The ‘wash’ comes into play, or at least in the back of your mind, on about a third of the holes. It’s not the longest or hardest course you’ll ever play, but I’ll tell you what, it’ll challenge your game. Thought the course was in pretty good condition for the amount of play it gets. Remember, it’s not a TPC course, it’s a muni. And for a little over $30 in the afternoon, including cart, it’s not too bad.

Course condition OK but not as good as the past few months...
Probably around a 6 out of 10 overall...Teed off around 2:15pm and finished in 4 hours, not bad for Brookside which usually takes at least 4.5 to 5 hrs during the week and much worse on the weekends...

Played around 1p today. The course is ok condition. The tee boxes on the whole are ok, but a few have a lot of divot damage. The greens are smooth, but on the slow side. The fairways are a little shaggier than they have been recently, and some fairways have some brown spots. Football season is going to start soon...so I'm not sure the conditions will get any better.

I love brookside. Just kidding!!

I think all those big cats at Annandale CC in Pasadena who I used to caddy for should get their funds together and buy out American Golf and the city of Pasadena. Then plow the whole d%mn property over and build an entirely new facility and keep it to just 18 holes. Push the yardage over 7500 from the back and sprawl the course over the whole property. Let's call up steve wynn and tell him to build a friggin' casino next to it.

Then raise the green fee ten dollars and take no more than a threesome for reservations. That way there might be room for a twosome waiting on the list and, of course, the army of single golfers just dying to squeeze in on a regular basis. Ban the fivesome groups. Hire some paid rangers to keep the pace up. Fire them if they can't do their job. If these old men (the American Golf "Course Ambassadors" or marshalls) want to blindly roam the golf course in a golf cart in exchange for free golf, they have 300 to 400 other American Golf Corp. courses around the world to do it at. But not Brookside!!!!!.....not anymore!!!!! If someone would just come in here and buy out everyone and fix eveerything, Golf in Pasadena could be saved!!

Convince George C. Thomas's family to release some of his secret designs never built and lets put together a layout that can attract a US OPEN or at least a NATIONWIDE TOUR event.

SCREW IT...I HATE BROOKSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've shot a 64 there when I was 19 (my all-time best) but I still HATE IT!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm just pissed because I haven't broke a 68 since then.

Course 2 is a good layout, tight and always fun. Course is playing pretty good considering summer is upon us. Surprisingly the greens were in good shape with the typical number of ball marks. The sand traps were terrible, dirt and gravel. I love Brookside well maintained all things considered.

Played early morning on 5-8-05. I've played here many times for years, but I've never seen this course is such good condition. Virtually everything about the course is in good condition. The greens have never been better (and faster - although people need to just put some effort into repairing those ball marks), the fringe and rough are good, and the new tee boxes make a huge difference. Fairways are smooth and don't have any bare spots. Just a pleasure to play the course right now. The improvements they're making to this facility are much appreciated.

#2 is playing nice, real lush. The tee boxes have been reconditioned and will eventually be great. Several holes had tiered levels off the box. Fairways and rough lush. Sandtraps not as fluffy with sand but with mixture of sand and dirt. Greens pretty tough especially with ball marks, medium fast speeds and some bumpiness. Why people don't repair their ball marks is beyond me. Playing like a 6.7 course.

Five greens on the back nine are currently being sanded, ready for sod. otherwsie the course is actually in decent shape. As simple as I remember this course being, if you miss the greens to the side and the pin is situated then overthe bunker, very very tough to get it up and down, turning easy pars into boogies. Some of the greens were kinda quick if you got the ball above the flag. Given the low course rating, tough to shoot to your index on this short track. A nice departure from the "big course"

We were in the first group on #2 on a Sunday morning, yet we caught the back nine players at the tenth hole. There were two twosomes in front of us. They should have paired them up and got the pace moving a bit more. To there credit, they are rebuilding several tee boxes, which will be very nice when completed.

Hadn't played at Brookside in nearly 18 months - it would have been more fun if the greens were a little more even, but given my low expectations, pace of play and overall condition were alright. This course gets so much usage, it's a wonder they can keep it this together. Still, I'm in no hurry to return (and definitely not in the summer again! - wow, it was hot!)...

Played the venerable E.O. Nay Course (a.k.a. "Brookside #2) yesterday in the annual Union Station Foundation/KTLA charity tournament. The event was second-to-none...well run with great food, plenty of beer and soft-drinks strategically placed on the course. The silent auction offerings were as good as I have ever seen.

About the course...overall, she's in good shape. My opinion is that the new sprinkler system is working well, and there are many less dry/brown spots on the course, overall. The greens roll true, but are still kind of bumpy. I was dismayed that there were many bunkers without rakes and that the sand condition, for the most part, was hard-packed and needed some new sand in places.

The rough was "medium" - not to thick....just right. I think that the overall presentation is pretty good - the course is much greener and much more lush than it has been in prior months.

It's not the toughest course you will play in So. Cal. - but it's still a decent test of golf at par-70. I'd rate it about a 7.0

Course is short, a bit narrow with small greens; a fair challenge. There is not a lot of separation between fairways or greens and tee boxes; feels crowded and does get a little unnerving with people yelling "fore". Temperture was in the 90's and we only seen the beverage cart once and we never seen a marshall. Starter sent a twosome in front of our foursome and then sent a twosome out behind us... go figure? My opinion... pick course #1 over #2 and bring your own water.

Played Brookside # 2 on 3/28 with a 7:00 AM reservation with my foursome. Fairways are in great shape - well trimmed with minimal barespots. The greens were being aerated. Pace of play was great - 4.5 hours walking on a weekend for Brookside which is excellent. Once the aeration is complete, Brookside should be in excellent playing condition.

O.K. - the "No Smoking" signs are down....our vocal protest has worked for the time being (thanks to all who stood up for personal liberty!!). Nothing saying "no smoking" is posted anywhere that I could see - and - believe me, I looked! So, I smoked cigars of different sizes and prices for 18 full holes. So did my playing partner. Just in case they were still trying to enforce the "ban" - we were prepared to tell the course Marshals that they had better call a Pasadena City cop if they wanted us to stop smoking our stogies!

Anyway, enough about civil disobedience...on to GOLF!!

Brookside #2 was in super good shape - and I've been playing here for 30+ years. Fairways had a couple of thin spots, and some noticeable ground under repair (although not legally marked per USGA rules) areas.....but. overall, the course was pretty green and lush. Rough was not overly long, traps were - well - pretty hard-packed and need to have more sand added to them, that's for sure.

Greens were a little bumpy for my tastes.....on the 12th green I fixed SIX fresh ball marks within a ten-foot radius of my ball (not counting my own!!) You'd think that if somebody is a good enough golfer to hit that green on the fly, they should at least know enough to fix their bloody ball marks!!! Arrrrgh!!

Not the worst greens, but certainly not the best.

We walked as a foursome beginning at Noon....and finished in 4.5 hours, and only had to wait on shots perhaps three or four times tops.

All in all - a good Friday afternoon of golf.

Go. play, smoke!!

Overall (except for the greens) the course was in the best condition I have seen it for months. The rain appears to have really helped the fairways and rough. There are still areas where water gathered and is now mud but overall the course drained well. The greens on the other hand were not very good. Since they are planning aerification beginning March 22 they most likely are not spending a great deal of time fixing them. They are bumpy as can be and not much rolls true. Overall the course was in great condition to work on all aspects of your game except putting, the weather was perfect and the layout is quite nice to walk.

Played 9/2. Fairways and greens were in better shape than usual. Greens were smooth and cut more closely than normal. I believe the irrigation work has been completed. Great course to practice your approach shots and wedges as the greens are quite small. I think the course is in a little better shape as the Calif. State Open starts this week. Good value if you are a Pasadena resident.

Played #2 6-07-03 and the course was in excellent condition. They were working on the irrigation and it did not slow play, no temps or temp T-boxes. Rough is long, but we're not supposed to play there. The time to play on saturday was 4hrs and 20 min. Went off at 1015.

Played PM on 6/2/03. Overall, this course is nice to play. But, there are some kind of irrigation project going on. So you'll see trucks and pipings on ground. Fairways are pretty wide open. Fairway rough is ridiculoursly long, and make it hard to play there.

Played a.m. on 5-18. The rough is way too high, but the course is in decent shape. There is an irrigation project going on, so there is equipment and piping along some fairways, and Hole 11 has a temp green that the starter didn't mention. The fairways need a little shave as well.

Played on 5/11. The course is in the best condition that I've seen in a couple of months. Fairways, greens and bunkers are in excellent shape. Some tee boxes were beat-up, however.

course is in the best shape I've seen it in a long time. Greens and fairways great, and new (&real) sand in many bunkers (I know!)

Played there on Apr 20. Greens are slowly coming back after aeration. Some of the tee boxes still are pretty beat up, but at least there appears to be new (and more) sand in some of the bunkers. The rough is getting high a little high as well.

Course is fun, but needs to be better maintained. Most of the tee boxes are beat up. The greens were quite shaggy and bumpy. The sand is not very good in the traps. On the plus side, the fairways and rough were quite plush.

Shorter than Brookside Course # 1, but still a nice course to play. A relatively flat layout with heavily bunkered fairways and greens.
A storm channel runs along the side of some of the holes. Some beautiful holes on the back 9 (#11, # 12) make this course worthwhile. Easier to get a reservation to play than course # 1. Fairly forgiving and not extremely difficult (slope at 115) of a course.

This is a more interesting course than I originally gave it credit because it's a little shorter. Most of the greens are small, well-trapped and have enough undulation to cause problems getting up and down. The greens were fast enough today that you needed to keep your approach shots below the holes. Conditions: Greens were fast and mostly smooth. Fairways were very inconsistent. Many bare spots due to the parking for the Rose Bowl game the day before. Traps as usual were inconsistent -- some have too much sand, others have hardly any. I'd still recommend the course, it's short, but you need to hit good iron shots into the small greens.

I guess American Golf does an OK good job - considering that the Rose Bowl parks 60,000 cars on Brookside's fairways every Saturday during the Fall - but I played after the recent UCLA/USC game - and there were beer-bottle tops all over the fairways, broken been bottles (that appear to have been run over by lawnmowers!) all over the place - dumped charcoals from BBQ's in the rough - and the tire damage and ruts and "driveways" have ruined what used to be a great track. It's quite sad. Greens on #2 were not that bad - trick putting and some are small. Hope they get it cleaned up by Spring!

Shorter of the two courses but equally scenic and popular with local golfers. Well maintained greens and fairways make this course a must play, especially for mid to high handicappers looking for a shorter course than course #1. Good layout with some challenging holes.
