Played Sun 10/26. It would be very nice course if the management really work on the course. Still have many bare spots on the fairways. Greens are bumpy and bit slow. Bunkers are poor... either hard or wet soil. Doesn't worth the green fees. They should lower the rate or improve the course. Customer services are good. Staff is very nice. Many of the fairways are divided by tall trees thus require punch out if you have problems with your tee shots.

Played here 09/21/08. Starter was a real a**hole. Fairways are in terrible conditions for the price($53 for cart on wknd). Many drives into fairway sitting on dirt or very patchy grass.

Will not play here again for a while, have not had a good experience here in past 2 times playing.

Played Monday 05/19. Greens are in OK condition. Speed is medium to slow. Still bumpy on certain greens. Fairways are alright. Roughs are getting longer around 1 to 1-1/2 inches. Bunkers are hard solid ground... wish they put some sands in those bunkers. There were almost nobody in the course. We had a great time! Finished in 4 hours.

Most greens are in good shape, but they are punching them in a few days. The Bunkers are probably the worst thing about this place. Sand quality is very poor, when there is sand. About a half inch deep mixed with small stones.

I like this layout but the greens are a little slow/grainy/bumpy right now. Everything else is in OK shape for this time of year.

Fairway conditions are a bit suspect these days due to dampness ... lots o' thin lies and soft turf. Greens are hangin in there, just a bit grainy. Still a nice muni, can be challenging to most of us. Like many courses this time of year, the fairway grass lies down and remains damp. New clubhouse/bar, worth the green fee for sure but I've seen it in much better shape.

Played 12/20/07 thursday morning .I play golf on weekday only this end of year season. One cloudy & humid day but enjoyable round. The big issue of this course are very slow & need to cut greens.Almost every course's greens are in very good shape after october & november's aeration but not montebello's.Some bare spots on fairways & rough area as usual & pretty soggy but in decent conditions. Also tee boxes.

Played today 11/26 7AM tee time. Course is in very good condition, it's back to almost great shape for this course. Tee boxes were in good conditon with very few divots and fairly level. The fairways were lush and running well. The rough was cut short, about 1 - 1 1/2 inches but with some bald spots, and some patchy areas but it played well, did not punish you real bad. The greens were very nice, green and rolling but at about med-fast and only a couple of ball marks from the foursome in front of us. The bunkers need help, they were all dirt only, caused several skulled shots, the wedges bounced and did not go under the ball. Played in 4 hours, $43 senior rate. Give it a 6.5 rating.

Played on 10/28, started around 1pm but barely finished. The course wasn't wide open but not narrow either. Nothing really spectacular and conditions were pretty decent. The greens were firm, fast & pretty smooth. The fairway was pretty lush but did have some bare and brown spots. This course didn't present too many challenges as long as you could hit the ball straight. We paid $53.00 (riding) which is kind of steep for this type of course at this time of day. There are more than a few courses nearby which are better and have better value. You could also take a drive into the IE and play a much better course for a much better price.

Played 10/06 Sat. Only had to wait 15 minutes and was able to tee off.
I just got a new iron set (Callaway X20 Graphite) and was excited to try them out. They are much lighter than my previous Callaway X14 iron set. Feels very good. Took few holes getting use to the new clubs. Course condition is in good condition. Greens are OK, still need couple more weeks to fully recover from aerating. Fairyways are in good condition GK rating 6.5 Bunkers need more work... more sands please! Tee boxes are also OK with some bare spots. Pace was bit slow. I was scoring well in back nine and was trying to have best score but got darker with three holes left. I finished the last hole in the dark and couldn't break my record. Still, I am happy with my new iron set. Just need to get a new driver and bring my handi by three or four more strokes.

Played 9/10 7AM tee time. Word of caution - the clubhouse is under renovation, temporary restroom trailer at entrance, no coffee shop but there was food and beverage service between the 1st tee and 18th green. The Course is in pretty decent condition. The tees were OK, the fairways were green, with some dry areas, and some dirt areas but playable. The greens were sad, med fast with many ball marks, some from the groups ahead of us. Bunkers were combination sand and dirt, but OK to get out of. I would rate it 6 - 6.5 at this time. Finished in 3hr45min no one pushing us, and we pushed group ahead on a couple of holes.

Played Friday 08/17. This is very nice and interesting course. Has serveral water hazard holes and well placed fairway bunkers. Fairways are just OK and has quite a few dry spots. Other than greens are very bumpy, we had good round. I won't go back until they are done with aerating the greens.

After playing the first hole, the condition was so poor, I thought, wow, this place is horrible. What happened? The condition improved as the round progressed. It reverted to typical Montebello, nothing great, but playable. Except the greens . they were as slow as I can ever remember playing. It wasn't that they were bad, just too slow, even by muni standards. Otherwise pace was good and course was enjoyable.

Played course with local golf pro Andy Ramirez, Course played fast we finished in 3.5 hours. Course is in great shape!! Well worth the green fee. 16th hole is course's signature hole, tougher when pin is placed on left side of green. Greens are flat and firm with no divots. Great traditional style course.

played monday 5/28/07. teed off at 12:30. $36 riding with residence card on memorial day.

pace of play was very good. finished in 4 1/2 hours with very little waiting.

tee boxes were excellent. good grass to hit off of. very little divot damage and were all pretty level.

fairways were a little dry with some hard spots but mostly were pretty good.

greens were a little dry as well, but smooth and rolling pretty nice. ball marks were fixed pretty decently as well.

sand traps were he only bad part of the day. most of them were very hard and nobody rakes them after being in them.

overall it was a good round. would definitely go back and get my redemption.

Montebello CC is a traditional style course. Fairways are tree lined and tend to be narrow to average in width. The course is primarily flat. A few elevation changes come into play on the front nine. A good variety of dogleg and straight forward holes. The course is highlighted by the par 3 16th hole. This hole plays about 160 yards over water. The course itself plays over 6500 yards from the tips. An excellent challenge for any golfer. You will find well placed water on about 4 holes.

Greens were in good shape but very slow. A little bit too slow for my taste. Greens held well. Fairways were green and cut to a good level. Tee boxes were level and lush with typical wear and tear. The rough was lush and at a reasonable level, but still challenging. Sand was so-so in quality.

The course has nice practice putting greens, an excellent driving range off of mats with good customer service. The starter seemed ok but not too excited. The course Marshall was very unfriendly and annoying. He would stare over people until he could find something to enforce, even if an offense had not been committed. I was told to use the 90 degree rule by him, without breaking the rule. He must have been a retired Highway Patrol Man.

The pace of play was good, about 4.0 hours. However, our group was playing par golf with accuracy and efficiency. All in all, Montebello is a wonderful traditional style track. It will challenge all parts of your game. Be ready to play most clubs in your bag. Only complaint was the rude Marshall. Otherwise a good experience.

Played on May 5. Montebello was in great shape. Lots of grass on fairways and tee boxes. Good definition on rough and fringe areas. Consistent sand in bunkers. Best of all - the greens had been cut and rolled recently, very true surfaces. The course is a good design and worth the green fee. Some tough par 4's on the front - #2, 4, 5, and especially 8. Good variety of par 3's - from 105 yard #9 to 216 yard #14. Back nine is a little easier to score with some reachable par 5's and also includes the more scenic holes. Great value for this renovated classic.

Played this course on Monday in about 4.5 hrs. The greens have recovered nicely from the punching and are quick and pretty true. The rough is in good shape and deep in some areas around the green. The fairways are in fair shape with some repairs going on. The sand is really wet mud/clay it seems and are a liability- Very easy to walk on during the week- Enjoyed it for 31 to walk- but the weekend rate is not worth it imo- overall i like the layout with some narrow and some wide open fairways

I haven't played here in over 3 years, cuz every time i would play, I would regret it and promise myself to never play again. Well, I played in a tournament fri 10/20... and I was very surprised at how nice the course was. Greens were smooth and fast, fairways in good shape, not nearly as wet as I remember. I might actually come back.

This is East LA's Country Club. Played there about two weeks ago in September with a buddy of mine and his corporate friend. This place has a mixture of uppity Latino and Asian movers and shakers of the San Gabriel Valley. This is where lots of the businessmen and local politicians talk ish and play for some real money. I had a great time playing on the soggy bermuda (mentioned below). For real.

Make sure you bring your straight driver as the fairways are somewhat narrow. If you get tired after the round you can always spend the night at the brand new (<5 years old) hotel built in between the nines. Don't forget to bring your party clothes if you play on a Friday or Saturday as the course houses a huge disco/nightclub after hours. If you play during the week, they even have fight nights on site (so I've heard).

Not a bad urban place to play.

Played this course for the first time. Teed off today in the afternoon. Pace was excellent as we finished in just over 4 hours. Very enjoyable track, although I am not a big fan of bermuda. We did not experience the wetness others have commented on. Seemed to get pretty decent roll on the fairways. Greens were bumpy and slow. Players here need to repair their ball marks. I repaired 4 or 5 every hole and did not make a dent. Bunkers were a bit crusty on some holes. Players also need to rake the bunkers after their play. Some water comes into play on a couple of holes, but bunkers and rough are the hazards here. Few houses make for a nice walk. Generally wide fairways make for a nice driver day. However, plenty of doglegs and trees to things interesting. Never saw the cartgirl but the bar/restaurant staff were pleasant. All in, a nice muni course I would play again. Great value too.

Played last Saturday morning 7/29. The course is pretty fun and has NUMEROUS dogleg lefts. There are numerous bunker ON the fairway and some right in the landing zone of your approach..which was pretty neat..different. The fairways were alright but not what I'd expect for a $50+ course..it was kinda shaggy and not as tight as some I've played for less.

My biggest concern were the greens as others have mentioned. They felt more like a damp sponge than anything..maybe the humidity..but just couldn't stand how the ball rolled..no rollout at all..very sticky.

I wouldn't say it felt like a "country club" but your average muni. Nothing really to write home about, but the pace of play was pretty fast and we finished under 5 hours.

For fifty bucks, this course is extremely acceptable. It has more of a country club feel than most public courses in the area. From the back tees, it can offer some challenge. There are probably 3 or four fun holes. Better than most muni course for the money.

Layout: If you've ever played here you know the unsurmountable amount of bunkers all over the place. The course is somewhat long off the blue tees, but par is not a hard score to post. Holes 4 & 5 really ruined my score (double bogeys on both holes) because of their length, 430 & 447 yds respectively.

Fairways & Tee grounds: The fairways surprisingly were lush and very well taken care of. It's pretty wide open, so a bad drive is highly unlikely unless you really pull or push the ball. If you pull or push you'll have a very tough time to make it on the green in two with all the trees in the way. Fairway hits are a must because as mentioned before fairway bunkers come into play on most holes. I played 3w off the tee most of the time averaging about a 240 yd drive which was adequate enough to keep me close to par. Once I pulled Driver (e.g., hole 4 & 5) I was in trouble! Some tee boxes were a little uneven, but overall they weren't bad where they would inhibit your stance off the tee.

Greens: The greens were somewhat beat up. As usual, most golfers just don't understand the importance of fixing your pitch marks. They were very bumpy, dry, and probably rolled to a 7 on the stimpmeter. I didn't have any three putts, but alot of up and downs were left out there for me due to the inconsistent roll of the ball.

Pace of Play: We teed off at 7:00 a.m. and were done by 11:35 a.m. We waited on the 3rd hole and after that it was smooth sailing up to the long par 3 (hole 14-216 yds) which actually played about 230 yds into the wind and an elevated green. Once we cleared that par 3 we didn't wait at all!

Bunkers: Pretty consistent sand, not very deep though so don't expect a huge blast of sand to come out once you hit the ball. Both greenside and fairway bunkers played like that, but once you were in them one time, you kind of had a notion of how the ball would come out.

Overall, not a bad course. I have heard really bad reviews of this course, particularly the pace of play. Maybe if you tee off after a certain time it really gets slow, but for us it worked out great!

Played here on 6/10 as part of a tournament. Our tee time was around 11:00 am but we started about a half hour later. It took us about five hours to complete the round (tournament was a scramble). Fairways and greens are in good shape. There were the usual occasional divots in the fairways not filled in and unrepaired ball marks on some of the greens. Overall the course was in good shape. Since it was a Saturday, there was a graduation party and a wedding reception taking place in the meeting rooms. We had a lot of trouble going from the 9th green to the 10th tee because there were a lot of people from a wedding reception hanging out in front of the clubhouse. Parking didn't look too good in the afternoon.

The course is operated and maintained by Montebello city employees. I have played the course for over 38 years and have seen conditions come and go. Right now it is playing well, the greens have just been aerated and have grown back. The fairways have three cuts with tdhe deepest grass about three inches long in the rough. Water comes into play three times. For a city owned and operated course it is a pleasure to play there.

Aerated more than two weeks ago but the greens are terrible.
Might be due to too much rain and wash away the seeds or what... but greens are very bad. Course is OK but it's not worthy to pay extra $10 compare to other municipal golf courses.

you have to get on this course before 7am to have a 4-4:30 hour round
it seems that way for every d%mn course out here though.
wednesday mornings have a mens group until about 7 or 7:30.

this course is great though. conditions are always nice from tee to green.
the layout is spectacular and fairways are tight. some were only 20-30 yards wide. sculpted with landing zones.

i urge anyone who is around a 10-15 handicap to play this course from the blue tees. it will be a nice round.

collard shirt required. to walk during the week is $28

of taking a subtlely rolling terrain and sculpting a really nice golf course into it. it does have a few good holes with some great
elevation changes also.

totally worth my $28. with the great shape it was in,

Made the mistake of trying to play twilight on this god forsaken course. What good does a marshall do if he does not speed up play when there are slow groups? The course was mediocre and what you'd expect with a muni, but the pace of play was rediculous!! There were some bare spots in the fairways and some overwatered spots under the trees. I just can't get over the fact that the only thing that the marshall was doing was riding in his cart and watching people play. There were also fivesomes all over the place and they let most of them walk! I was very disgruntled to say the least. Teed off at 1:30pm and didn't get done until 6:45pm - this was on a weekday!!!

Hadn't played here Januay 04. Course was in decent condition. Greens were better than I expected considering they were recently punched. If you play this course from the "tips" it is a solid track, with some the par 4s as tough as you'd want. Just a nice old traditional course!

This was my first time here, and I really liked they layout of this course. There were many interesting and challenging holes for the weekend golfer.
Unfortunately, the greens were the worst I have played on in many years. Aside from the usual unfixed ball marks, the greens seemed to have some kind of problem that made the speed inconsistent and caused putts of all lengths to bounce off line.
There were also many areas of dead grass or hardpan in the fairways or just off the fairway.
These conditions could very easily have been the result of the recent aerification and heat wave, and I will defifitely give this course another try in the future.

played montebello on 8/1 and found the conditions to be below avg. the tee boxes were pretty level and the greens had the usual unrepaired ball marks, but it was the fairways that really disappointed. had many good drives that ended up in the fairway, but the problem was there was no grass on them. it basically was like hitting off concrete. it's unfortunate because i like the layout, but for the price your not getting what you pay for.

The course is probably one of the poorest maintained in Los Angeles County. The green fees are not warranted, but considering the City of Montebello is BK, no chance of that. This course should avoid until they bring it up to par.

we used to play this course more often and it was usually in pretty good shape, but its getting pretty run down looking. greens pretty good but fairways need work. lots of bare areas and not much grass. seems like they aren't working very hard to maintain course.

played Tues, 10/12 in the morning - not the best green or fairway conditions, but nothing too awful - still a good amount of sand on the greens from aerating, but most LA courses are like that right now - also a lot of tee boxes were really soft, so it was tough to get proper tee placement

Course is in okay condition but the greens are a little bumpy since most people seems not to fix there ball marks. For the most part the staff is good but some on the staff is rude and condescending. The rate to play is okay but there are better values at other courses. Nearby Industry hills has a better value for your bucks.

Ok experience. Golf course itself was pretty good, but I played at 3:00 twilight, got on as a single at 3:20. They don't allow singles by themselves, so you need to wait to join with others. The cart must be returned by 7:30, and the marshall's make sure of this by driving around. Got to play 15 holes with a cart, then had to return it and walk the rest. Took almost 5 hours.

According to your golf course information, any shirt is allowed at Montebello Golf Course. That is not correct. Montebello Golf Course requires collared shirts.

I just played and the course was in pretty good shape. The front nine took about 2 1/2 hours but once the ladies ate and we skipped ahead on ten we finished the back nine in 1 1/2 hours. Fairways are nice the greens were really nice as were the tee boxes. The sand traps are really bad and hard as a rock and you can forget about the range it is one of the worst I have ever seen.

Greens are almost recovered from aeration. The greens at times could be bumpy due to the poa which grows faster than the rest of the grass. Read putts from both sides the brakes can be deceiving. The fairways, rough, and tee boxes overall are good shape. Some bunkers are good and some are not so good because they get wet then they are not raked by the course workers allowing the sand to become hard. The course has an interesting layout and is worth a play. Play is slow due to 5somes.

The course was in good shape overall. The greens are almost completely healed from aeration. The Poa is taking over the greens so there is some inconsistancy in speeds. This course is worth playing. Have fun!

I played in a tournament on 04-08-04. The course was in good shape. The fairways were plush, and the rough was long. The sand was a little wet and hard. The greens had recently been ariated with the Dry Jet machine or something similar, so they were in decent shape. On the whole after reading the other previous postings, I was expecting the worst and was pleasantly surpirsed by the overall condition of the course. I think it is well worth the money.

The course was a little too wet, the greens a bit slow, fairways ok. It took over 5 hours, but at least the weather was great 78 degrees. Nice track - but could use a little TLC

Something wrong with playing condition rating.I don't understand why westridge rated 5.49 against montebello 6.23 Played 12/24/03 12;10pm Rainy day.$50 weekend rate. I play every week different courses of socal but this course is one of the worst.Tee boxes almost no grass even slippery.both sides of fairways too many bare spots that we decided pick up ball to place on grass.until 18 holes we had to wait each shot.Par 5 we can see other 3 group,1 on green 1 ahead of us waiting 3rd or 4th shot,1 behind of us waiting for tee shot.Greens decent condition,a little bit slow & tricky. Good quality of sand bunkers.I don't have nothing against montebello, nearest course for me to play(that's why busy i guess) but I want to give all other golf manias like me helpful information because every time I choosing the course to play I check up greenskeeper. You are weekend golfer, once a week you play ,round has to be happy & good time not facing things above described.

Course played wet today but other than that in good condition. I’m not a big fan of Montebello Golf Course but my buddies are because it pretty long for a par 71. Good golf course. Probably better then Santa Anita but not as good as Rio Hondo.

Played 8-7-03 and started at 7:30. Went fast for 9 holes (under 2 hours) and then caught a fivesome which took forever. Finished 18 in over 4.5 hours while waiting to hit on every shot. Group was behind over an entire hole and no marshalls around to pick up pace. Made it seem like a long day.

Played Montebello Friday the 25th and loved it. The course is a great value. Good condition, some challenges and resonably priced. I played there over 25 yrs ago and its not the same course. They've added water and sand traps to make it interesting. Holes are not so long that you have to be Tiger to make par. I will definitely play it again.

I played this course for the first time last weekend, and I had a great time. Both the sand and rough I gave high marks due to their constant consistency. The rough was well maintained, and the sand traps were all raked. The sand was also soft...no dried water to mess anything up. There was one hole that I was very unhappy with. I don't remember exactly which one it was, but it was a short par three along the hotel. All three tees were bunched together, and I had to search all over the place for grass. The divots on that tee were horrible! Other than that, I had a great time. I played with some people who like to take their time...hence the 4 to 4.5 hours to play 18. If you are in the area...check it out, you should have fun.

They are punching the tee boxes and green fringes today -- a bit messy.
