Wow! There are more gopher holes here than craters on the planet Mercury. Fairways do not exist. I feel bad for those who have put money into course over the last 25 years only to lose the battle with the methane gas. The greens are a whole different mouse trap. They are near immaculate. You get a very true roll not too fast and not too slow. The contrast between the condition of the greens and the rest of the course is probably not matched by any other course on this planet, including Mercury. Don't forget 1 million sun block if you want to play there....

down there but it was for sure smokey. The range was full tilt. Putting green and chipping area were closed.

Phew!!! I know a lot has been written about the course condition so I'll be brief.
Yes, the fairways are non existent. Like full wasteland. Like dirty Mad Max type of sh-t .
It was kinda fun on the front because its just so different. It was dirt then green.

The greens were still better than Santa Anita's and were watered and soft. For sure some
poc marks and divots but the greens are really the only thing going for this course.

The traps were all pretty terrible although on some holes they were ok.

This course is for sure a 25 dollar course and not 44 but I was grateful to get out and play a place I have never played. While you will almost always lift clean and find a lie, you can still play golf with your friends and the course is wide open so you can fully send your driver without too much trouble. It does get windy and the course does seem to take on a new personality. So, if you like dirty clubs and pasture golf then Victoria may have something for you.

Played August 1st which was a Saturday. Tee time was 8:50. POP is always pretty good at this course. Once we got past a few slow groups at the turn we played in 3:45. Greens are always smooth here. Soft but smooth. The fairways are awful. No getting around that. But for the price, good greens, and above average POP, I think it’s worth the price. If you don’t mind bumping you lie in the fairway then it’s really not a big deal. Layout is challenging and there are some really good holes on the back nine.

Course conditions. I thought Id just post a quick one since the last review was 9 months ago. If your wondering if any change in condition, there is not. Same old Victoria. More dirt than grass on the fairways and rough. Great greens. Ok tee boxes and bunkers.

Why, you may ask yourself, would any rational thinking golfer spend a perfectly gorgeous Saturday morning at The Links at Victoria? It's a great question.

In part, it was because my foursome (playing our little Game 7 from a long ongoing bet) had to play early and it was the only local course that had tee times available before 10am. It was also a bit of nostaliga involved in the decision as rumor has it that this course will be closed in April of next year, so I thought it would be a shame not to play it at least one last time.

(Just for the record, the starter was still under the impression they have a shot to save it.)

First, the positives. The new driving range looks really good. I had not been back to this course in over three years so it was nice to see that completed. The greens and green complexes here remain top notch. It's an absolute mystery how they can do such excellent work on the greens here, but haven't figured out a way to get any of the rest of it right. Greens were running smooth and medium-fast, with great coverage and really nice designs. And the layout at Victoria is really fun and varied.

The fairways are as poor as their reputation, and maybe even a bit worse right now. Vast swaths of hardpan dirt where once nice grass was envisioned. It's a total victory to have any tee shot land in some of the grass that does occasionally dot the fairway. Plenty of rodent holes as well waiting to swallow your ball. Rough is non-existent as it's just the same as the 'fairways.' There's no differentiation other than dirt from sparse green. As awful a condition of a golf course you'll ever find.

Bunkers were thin and not much fun to hit from, while the tee boxes were just okay (we played the white tees due to conditions). No cart service to be seen all day, but at least the carts were okay. But yeah, for a $50 greens fee, you're not getting much bang for your buck here, unless you only consider the quality of the greens.

So would I recommend a visit? No, of course not, but then again, maybe with more visitors they can afford to stay open and fix the fairways eventually. But we've heard that same tune for many years now. Avoid it unless you just want a final go-round before it's gone.

Late getting to my review. Played the course on 6/13. Played after work. AWFUL!!!! I should have walked back into pro shop and demanded a refund when I got to the 1st fairway. Almost no grass on any of the fairways. Almost no sand in any of the bunkers. Just a poorly maintained disaster.

Driving range mats were worn as well (though, they did have a nice array of well marked targets).

ONLY positive is that they had great putting and chipping practice area. I chipped for an hour after giving up after 9 holes.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!!

It is in the worse shape I have ever seen it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess the county is not alloying any $$$ for maintenance !! Greens are , as usual in the best shape of any other part of course.
Great layout, too bad the county is trying to shut down instead of fixing up !!!!!!! Politics as usual !! trying to take over !!!

Played on 11/2. The back 9 is closed until 11/16. Some company is testing the soil. I asked the guy in the proshop if they are testing the soil for the golf course but he said they are testing to see if its safe to build on top of it. Its $25 to play the front 9 twice. Same conditions as always but the greens were punched a week ago so the green grass is long and shaggy.
