It was great to get out and play again after a 3 month injury layoff. The course wasn't busy and was in pretty good shape overall except that the rough was very long and the maintenance crews were out on several holes cutting and doing some repair work. Still worth the time to be out and play.

Played here on Friday, July 11, 2008. Walked on as a single at 7:00 a.m. Starter was kind enough to give me a discount that I had received but didn't have the paperwork. I probably wouldn't want to pay full rack rate here as it is only a 4366 yd. executive course. Course in mostly good condition. The only drawbacks are lots of divots and uneven ground on tees (but they were lush), standing water in some traps, and plenty of old ball marks on greens. Other than that, everything looked pretty good. Pace of play for our threesome was about 3 hours and 15 minutes, including waiting for the foursome in front of us from about the 4th hole on.

Addendum to my June 22, 2008 review: Sand traps were in poor shape with dirty, hard-packed, and thin sand. Not good, but I guess I should not have hit into them. I want to give this course a good rating, but there are some things that need attention right now.

Played on Sunday, June 22, 2008. I received a two-for-one e-mail special (check out americangolf.com) at the twilight rate of $30, including cart. Only took the cart because it was hot--about 107 degrees. Greens were getting hammered from the heat. Nothing major, but the superintendant could use a syringe crew on those hot days. Other than the stressed greens, the tee boxes were pretty beat up. I guess with the many par 3 holes, everybody and their mother has to take a huge divot; it makes for some uncomfortable stances. Fairways and rough looked pretty good, although debris from the many eucalyptus trees could hamper efforts to find balls in the rough. Finished round in about 3.5 hours.

Wow. Is Vista Valencia really still being managed by American Golf?? Why can't they keep Upland Hills in this good condition?

I used to live in Valencia...so - I've played this track a LOT...but not in several years.

I must say....it's in prime condition right now!

Fairways lush, rough long, but not-too-long, I think that the greens are near perfect (could be because I drained some Tiger-esque bombs yesterday!)

4.0 hours - booked on-line...a great golfing experience all around!!

Played here on 4/19/08 - 6:18am (yey) - finished by 9:25am - Greens are mostly recovered from Ariation but are patchy in alot of spots and could use another rolling. Most of the course is in great shape. This is a beautiful course, fun to play, alot of hazards and elevated greens, price is low and they have a replay price of 10$ weekdays and 15$ weekends. Overall a good deal.

My favorite course by far.(considering I've only played Knollwood and here) Hole 17 is a great hole. Lots of variation between holes. Unless you hit consistently and know your distance, I suggest taking 2 clubs with you at the tee box.

Played with *kviser* and our two lady co-worker teammates Saturday, April 5. The sanding on the greens was excessive, so I quit putting by the 6th, so as to not ruin my mental putting image (I gotta perform on Monday @ Spanish Hills in a tournament!)

The course was in decent shape. We had our teammates, for an upcoming work-group tournament, out for a practice round. This was their first time on the course, where as *kviser* and myself have played this short Executive for many years, off and on. We did notice that FINALLY the 17th Hole green access bridge has been REPLACED! Yea!!!!

The couse facility was busy that day, with a DEMO Day going on, so when we finished, we took the opportunity to swing the new drivers & 3-woods. ANYTIME you get to practice on the range off the GRASS is wonderful (usually you hit off mats --- I hate mats).

Played on saturday, nice layout for an Exec course.. First group out so we finished just under 4hours.. Kinda fun to hit driver then a 9 iron or wedge into the green.. Place was in decent shape and for $31 so it was a bargain.. Greens were surprisingly quick for this course..

Played Saturday the 15th. First group out and took us a little under 4 hours to finish. Tee boxes were in good condition. Fairways were okay and wide. I found myself in alot of traps this round, so they were great, trust me. Greens were great. A couple of challenging hole placements. Overall place was great.

Played both the Vista (executive par 61, 4366 yds.) and the Chica (par 3) on 01/05/08, e-mail special rate of $14, cart incl. Hey, we weren't going to play at this overpriced, under-maintained, goose infested muni-style course. However, the "rainy day special" of 14 bones made it too hard to resist. As it turns out, the place was not that bad, especially since it had rained pretty hard overnight. Had to use cart because the 6 bridges that cross the creek running through the course were flooded. There was a line of trash and debris within 25 feet of the creek in many areas. Some fairways were flooded. Water overflowed the lake on #7 and ran through the course until it found the creek near #2 green. It was cart path only. Sand traps were flooded. Now for the good. Greens fast and smooth. Also very soft and receptive. Pace of play was good, most likely due to the weather keeping people at bay. If I could recommend anything, it would be to place 6 new, larger bridges, lose the geese, overseed fairways and edge the greens.

We also got to play the Chica course for free. These greens could be a lot nicer. They are small, bentgrass greens with interesting slopes and undulations set amid native oaks in a small, canyon setting. However, nobody fixes ball marks here and there are lots of bare areas. This has the potential to be a great place to work on your short game.

Normally, they charge a lot to play these courses. With that in mind, some of what they take in should go back into course maintenance.

We played on Sunday, 11/25 with a midmorning tee time. It took us about 4 hours to play 18 holes. It was a lot quieter than normal due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

It seems the course has recovered well from overseeding from a month ago. Carts were not "cart path only". The fairways were in fair condition. Although some of the fairways were dry and wet in spots.

The greens were in good conditon. There were several unrepaired ball marks on the greens. I noticed when we putted that the balls bounced around a little bit.

This course has a lot of variety to play here. There are uphill and downhill tee shots as well as the island green on the 17th hole. Even though it is an executive course, it can be challenging to play here.

Played on 10/19/07. The tee boxes and fairways are being reseeded and it was cart path only. Tees were moved all the way forward (almost on the downslope) and overly sanded. Several greens had some idiot damage. Hey, ball marks are one thing, but an angry swing on a defenseless green is ridiculous. Other than that, it wasn't that bad. Being an executive course, the price could be a little lower.

Played Sunday (07/29/2007) at 2:30 p.m. Starter shouldn't have
let anyone out because there was a TOURNAMENT for the kids.
Needless to say, it was SUPER SLOW IN EVERY HOLE. Many groups,
including us have to leave with so many holes left to play. Beside
that, the course was way over rated; should be approx. 5.5 at most.
There are so many bare, brown area at the fairway and all the
greens are being sanded. Perhaps, We may play after a few months.

Played here on Memorial day with a tee time just before 12 noon. Pace of play was a little slow being a holiday. It took us just over 4 hours to play. This is not an easy course to play. Water comes into play on several holes. It's a fun course to play. There are several holes where you hit up and some where you hit down. The 17th hole island green is always a challenge to play. The course is in great condition. I noticed that some of the tee boxes were punched. Green fees on the weekend is a little high for an exec course but we frequently get e-mail specials for this course which helps a lot. This is one of my favorite courses to play.

Played again here a week ago on Friday, May 11. The course is continuing to look fairly nice, I hope Vista keeps up the good work. It seems that the greens were once again double cut and there was a groundskeeper driving around with a hose syringing greens, hitting the hot spots. There were minimal ball marks on the greens. The areas they can improve on it would be raking up the tree debris under the eucalyptus trees and improving the sand quality in the traps. Also, the turf on 15 fairway about 100 yds from the green has always been weak. Oh yeah, the price is a little steep for being a shorter course. Maybe that's why it's called executive; you have to be one to afford playing here.

Played here at the local muni for the first time in a long time. Nearly all the greens were in great shape: double-cut, smoooth and soft. Honestly, I don't remember the greens looking this good, ever. Not bad for a muni. Except for number 17, where my buddy and I fixed about 40 (not kidding) ball marks. It's a drop shot to their signature island green from about 158 yards. Sand traps need some work (new, clean sand) and several had footprints that needed raking. There were some areas of fairway that looked pretty lush, but it could be better throughout the course. A few tee boxes had excessive divots, not only from today. A little sand/seed/mulch would go a long way to keeping things up. Also I noted that most of the cups were not cut deep enough, with the metal cup barely beneath the level of the turf. Bad greenskeeper, bad. I have noticed this problem occuring on a few courses around here- Elkins, De Bell, Mountainview. It's not all the holes, but a few to several on each course. Lastly, it was a 5 1/2 hour round for an executive, par 61. Just a little slow.

Fun and challenging 18-Hole Executive course. The course is in great shape, with great changes in elevation. Even the short holes are deceiving in how challenging they can be at times. Definitely a fun course to play.

Got out and played the local course for the first time in well over two years. Got out at 1:50 and played 17 holes. I was pleasantly suprised with the course conditions. Although the greens were very soft, the roll was not too bad. The greens are the best part of this course. Fairways, T's, and traps were all slightly above average. As many of the previous posts have suggested, this is a fun course that lets you use every club in your bag. Check out the first three holes as you drive into the complex. If there is a back up on #2, forget about playing and hit the range/practice green. If those first few holes are open, you can get around rather quickly. I will get back to Vista sooner, than the last two year hiatus.

Even the short par 3s here are tricky...steep inclines and descents. The long par 4s seemed easy by comparison. Even though the course is not long, if you walk you will probably feel it in your legs the next day. Played on a Friday morning and my twosome had no problems getting on. Overall, good value and an enjoyable time.

Great style and elevation changes on this course. Many dificult holes, lots of hard Par 3's. 17th was fun and my first true island hole. Grass was a bit brown and LOTS of kids playing around. They do have a great jr golf school here but I saw three foursomes of kids that couldnt have been over 14 all out playing. I went today, a Thursday at 11am. Hit a bucket and watched only two groups go out so I got a cart and sped through the course in less than 3 hours, no waiting on any holes. Best part is that you can play another round w/cart for just $10. After I heard that I gave my $10 and played two shots on all the long holes practicing my two too the green hits, sped through the second time in under an hour with no waiting.

I would suggest going out mid afternoon. As I left the parking lot was pretty empty and most of the people around were eating or on the range.. I almost played a third practice round because I was hitting well today.. Finished with a 70 :)

got out right away on early weekday morning for quick nine holes on the backside...beautiful layout...plenty of visual tricks played by the designer...lovely approaches to the green...well maintained...lots of trees...too many unrepaired and poorly repaired ball marks...well bunkered fairways and greens...the perfect pre-dawn practice round spot.

Arrived at 6:40 AM and checked-in at the pro shop. There were 2 foursomes ahead of me, so I was given the option to start on #10, which I did. Tee'd off on #10 at 6:50 AM and hole'd out on #9 at 10:27 AM.

It was a great morning while walking the back nine, playing #10 through #18. No pressure what so ever. Just a few rabbits, ground squirrels, and myself. Sandtraps are in great shape (a couple were on the firm side). One issue that I noticed this morning was the greens had been sprayed with a blue substance (later found out this was fertilizer). Turns your hands and ball a tad on the blue side. I was warned to wash my hands though if I was planning on eating anything while on the course.

Made my way to #1 tee box and was placed with another single. We had a couple of foresomes in front of us, but everything moved along just fine.

I guess the only thing I could complain about would be that the fairways were a bit soggy, but it is getting hotter these days and I would assume they need to dump a few gallons on the fairways at night.

Great customer service (I have never had anything less while playing this course). The course appeared to be well manicured and groomed. Everything seemed to be nice, green, and quite this morning. If you arrive here this morning when I did, you would have your pick of mats on the driving range!

If you want a no-pressure, relaxing type of morning, come on out early on Friday AM and play at Vista Valencia.

play there whenever out to visit family, last time 3/14/05. arrive there early wkday a.m.,get right out ,done in 2 -21/2 hrs. course always in good shape (even after all those heavy rains the previous weeks). Greens always true, interesting little course. Very friendly staff. I think they also have a 9 hole course besides the 18 hole executive. If you want to sneak in a early, quick 18--this is the place.

Played on April 1, 2005 3:45 super twilight $15 to walk. Course was virtually deserted for a Friday afternoon. Three hours to finish (quick for this course). Greens had been aerated recently and only a couple needed about three more days to grow in. Too many ball marks on otherwise nice greens. I fixed an average of 6 per hole. Number 15 has a new tee pushed way back about 40 yds. Temporary tee on number 16; there is a bridge out. Number 17 island green never looked better.

Vista offers a "Hackers Special" that includes super twilight golf and a $6 range card for $10 after 6:00pm. Great deal at that price. Got out with a buddy at 6:30pm and we were able to easily finish 9 holes, often dropping a extra balls to practice those approach shots. Way too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens.

Called on Saturday and got a 9:40 time for 3some on Sunday. !st time on a big course (with par 4's) for my high school son. I remember playing here back in the 70's or early 80's. I was blown away by the nice condition, xlnt staff and a beverage cart every four or five holes. Vista is a well designed, fun and user friendly short layout with some beautiful views and a great island green on 17. I played the TPC, across the street, last week and these greens were better. We finished in just over 4 hours and that included a hamburger at the turn.

Went out to play a quick round at the local course Friday. Thought we could save some time by not taking the 30 minute drive to play some of the other nearby courses. Boy, was that a bad assumption!! The 5-somes and general slow pace of all the groups ahead of us made for a 5 hour round on a par 62 exec course. We had to wait on every shot until our tee shots on 18! To be fair, I did talk to some people that got out in the early morning and finished in 3.5 hours. The green fees are on the high side, $62 for 2 (with a cart). Course conditions were not the greatest. The greens are recovering nicely from heavy aeration 2 weeks ago. Give them another week or so and they should be pretty decent. Fairways were thin with many brown/bare spots. If you can get out early in the morning, this would be a nice place to play, if the conditions were to improve. There are some really tough par 3's and a 450 yard par 4 to a very small and guarded green.

This is nice course...it's in good condition and very scenic but it took us just under 6 HOURS!!!! to play.
It wasn't just a slow 4some in front of us. Everyone was waiting!!!
The marshall sent out the hospitality cart to us for a complimentary beverage which was very nice, but 6 hours on an executive course is unacceptable.

Widest range of Par of 3's I've ever played. Awesome Island hole (Watch out for the ducks and geese.) and a few short ones that can drive you nuts (120-85yds). Great elevation changes to make it fun. Played a 4-man scramble last week and had a great time (Thank You Kappa Kappa Gamma @ CSU Northridge). Will go back soon to see if I can handle it by myself. Greens ran good, despite all the ball marks. Better have a good 5 wood or 3 iron for some of the 200+ par 3's. The pitch n' putt "Chica" course is the best in the San Fernando/ Santa Clarita area. Prices are fair and range is one of few that are lit near me.

Played yesterday and, as usual, the course is in great shape. (Although they did just fertilize the greens this week which, other than leaving big ugly tire marks on the greens, didn't really affect play.) Always a fun course it's mostly about club selection and accuracy than distance. Best time to play is usually late morning or mid-day. Signature hole is 17 with an island green.
