Played evening time started at 5:30 good pace of play. Greens held shots well. Good playing golf with friends. That’s about all the good stuff. Greens are punched , putts were anything but true. Worst Teebox’s as I’ve ever been on in my life. Not level and barely any grass patches large enough for a club to address the ball. This course has lights, but about four tee boxes were dark. Hard packed bunkers, fringes and rough were decent Range is packed, they must have a club deal cause the prices are outrageous for individual buckets. $13 for medium and 17 for a large. Really? 1/2 the balls are junk balls also Not wanting to go back here.

Heartwell... the 18 hole par-3 course where Tiger learned as a child! Holes ranged from 70 to 140 yards this day, most of them in the 100-120 yard range. I played there quite a few times when I lived in Long Beach 20 years ago and was just starting to learn golf and it was fun to go back and reminisce. There's a tiny little chipping area, two good putting greens and a wide range that is also lit at night where you hit off of mats. If you want to use your driver, you need to bring your own rubber tee or buy one in the Pro Shop ($2). Even as an out-of-towner, my walking rate was only $21- a good walk and a lot of fun for the price!
It's still much the same as I remember, your typical muni course with large trees bordering the fairways and several different grasses interspersed throughout each hole. You're just as likely to be buried in 5" of wet greenery as you are to find a decent lie whenever you miss the putting surface. Sand traps looked undragged and basically packed, wet, muddy-looking sand. I completely shanked my only bunker shot, so I can't comment on the playability (yech!)... The greens this day looked like pressed mud and some tight greenery, with a few scruffy spots and the usual pock-marked unfixed ball marks, but actually putted just fine- in fact I had a hot putting day there, making 6 out of 7 from 5-8 feet. Not my usual 40% or so. Curiously, 4 of my 6 chips kicked sideways when they landed on the green. Go figure. Maybe I didn't read the landing spots well? Trust me, I don't have the skill to spin chips!
The one real drawback was the tee boxes. Just a rolled & pressed muddy surface with little clumps of pressed crabgrass all over them. Almost no grass at all, anywhere. I kept hitting sky-high balls off the tee short of my anticipated distance until it finally dawned on me that teeing my ball a little off the muddy surface was making me impact the ball a couple of grooves up the face of my wedges. Well whaddaya know... *slap my head*
I was paired up with a real nice gentleman named Mike this day and "returning to my roots" was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday when I couldn't find a tee time elsewhere in town.
Recommended for beginners, families with kids and people who want to practice hitting wedges off of tight, muddy lies (lol). But you know what? I still had a ball !

Junior event last Sunday. Dont get why they would aerate the greens before a tournament but they did. Other than the greens, everything else was fine.

Course was in OK condition, fairways are starting to green up, still dormant with some thing spots, but playable. Tee boxes were fairly level with a few divots, no rough, greens were lush, firm, and fast. bunkers were firm with little sand.

All in all a decent play to work on short game and putting. Decent green fees for a weekend. POP was 3 hrs.

Hard to believe, but despite living in So Calif since 1970, this was the first time I have ever played this course! Too bad I choose such a hot day to play. Pace of play was slow, about three hours, which for a par 3 course with no trouble, is way too slow. Temps in the 90's with no breeze. (Since I almost always play super early, not used to playing in the heat or slowly.) I was disappointed with the course, I did not find any of the holes to be "special", did not present any real challenge, even playing from the tips. Yardage has nothing to do with that, because you can provide a challenging shot on even a 100 yard hole. All the holes played essentially the same. The course was in decent condition, except for a number of tee boxes which were really beat up. Greens were pretty smooth, and received all this shot iron shots very well. Sand was poor - thin, hard, and crusty. Glad I finally made it out here. I thought the course was very "pretty" and maybe on a cooler day, it might have been more enjoyable to sit on the bench and wait, but not today.

Only time for a quick round today. Course was busy but moved well. Recent rains have provided more green and greens are in much better shape. Rounds are discounted currently due to major remodel of clubhouse. Tee boxes were in good shape, as well as the sand traps. Enjoyable mixture of par 3 holes to keep your iron game in shape.

Having a short window for an 18 I chose Heartwell. Having never played it, I did not know what to expect. Customer service excellent (was on the tee in 5 minutes of check in). POP was a great 2 hours, even knowing that I would be playing a course with many "newbies". A great mixture of par 3 holes, including some water holes. It really shows (IMO) how weak, short or inconsistent you can/might be with your irons. I personally thought it was a great course to practice up on my iron play. Course is not in totally great condition at the moment. While the tee boxes were level, they had a lot of divot damage. Fairways were dry, cut, aerated but given you are playing par 3 holes, the fairways are not an issue (IMO). Sand traps were in good shape and raked (nice to see). Greens need some work. They were bumpy, patchy and totally inconsistent in speed. If you are looking for an inexpensive 18 holes this fits the bill. If you are looking to work on you short game, this is the place. If you just want to get out an play a fast round, this will suffice. This maybe a short par 3 course, but I don't consider it a "pushover" by any means. I look forward to playing it more often.

Great place to practice your short game. Longest hole I believe was around 140y. There are some water holes only 1 should come in play..

Staff was nice. no marshalls or bev cart seen. Practice range with mats available. Small chipping area and putting area also available.

Needed to get out quick and early today (and on a course I haven't played), so Heartwell was the ideal choice. I walked on, teed off a little before 6:00. I played the first few holes under the lights and played through a couple groups on the front. Done walking 18 in about 1:15. Rate was a reasonable $1 per hole ($18 if you can't do the math). I was pleasantly surprised by how good a shape the course was in. Some tee boxes were way too chewed up and sandy, but everything else leading up to and around the greens was fairly lush and well maintained. In fact, I think these are some of the nicest fringes I've seen all summer! The greens were super soft in the morning and there were too many old, unrepaired marks, but they rolled relatively well at medium speeds. I was in one bunker, which was very damp, but the sand seemed decent enough. All in all, pretty well kept for a basic par-3 course. Fun pitch and putt. 140 is the longest hole you will encounter. Pretty basic and lined with trees. Greens small and simple. Kind of felt like a mini ElDo. Good course for beginners or to work on your short game. Other than the first green, which was bathed in darkness, the lighting is pretty sufficient for early morning or nighttime play.
