Course was slow and damp. Probably a good sign in general. Slow greens and pretty flat. Lots of ball marks. fairways were short and pretty well maintained. Luckily hit the ball pretty straight so not really in the rough or sand. Not low end of the muni circuit, as the course is covered in grass with few bare spots. Pretty easy to get on, on a weekday afternoon and time to finish the 9 holes. They rebuilt 2 of the tee boxes in the past year or two, and have already lost one to spotty coverage. Couldn't find a flat space to stand on one of them as two different types of grass basically made little hills. A little disappointing for all the work they did. Will I go back? Yes. Would I drive far to play? No.

I hadn't been out to Roosevelt in a good while, generally electing for 18-hole courses, but grabbed a last-minute single time for 4:40 on Friday afternoon joining another single and a pair of brothers. The conditions are generally good here although, on the day, the blue and black tees were combined forward in the teeing grounds with the white and red further up. This left most of the teeing area reserved. I'm assuming it is for some kind of maintenance but only the first tee had any areas actually roped off with some indications of reseeding. But this is not the kind of course you go to to quibble about where exactly you tee from and any legitimacy it conveys. The place is hilly, pastoral and chill with an abundance of LA landmarks adjacent or within view. The tee boxes in use were a little worse for wear but serviceable enough. The fairways are in good shape, well grown in and a good length. Rough, where grass, varies with some thick areas but most playable for recovery. There are some wild areas you can get into not far off some of the fairways. I missed the bunkers and wasn't paying attention, but I noticed the one on the fourth fairway seemed to have good sand in it, albeit it not particularly groomed. Shots into the greens readily produced pitch marks and I repaired a bunch, but the greens were in decent shape overall and played well enough at a medium pace. The $11 bucks I payed was less than a bucket a most places these days and I'd much rather be working things out on the course. The others in the group were pleasant enough companions and we finished after sunset with enough light to track the balls from tee to green on the downhill final par 3. It definitely has some challenges to go along with some nice views, but it seems to come with a relaxed vibe — in a way, a scene as much as scenic. Very enjoyable as a change-of-pace casual round.

Roosevelt is a 9 hole gem in the middle of Los Angeles. The fairways are very nice. The greens are nice and fairly quick. I played it last August 5. The views of Los Angeles and the observatory are great. The price is very fair. The course is 9 holes - 6 par 4's and 3 par 3's. There are no electric carts. It is a great course for beginners which makes it play slow on weekends. About 2:45 for 9 holes. Don't be in a hurry and enjoy the views and wildlife!

Out on Sunday 8/7 as a single joining four others for a 10:30 start. There is enough detail in the thread about the character of this course, which I enjoy very much, but I'll keep this short. Nice all around conditions, greens were clean, medium paced and on the soft side, taking deep pitch marks. I avoided the bunkers but they looked OK. Fairways were good and green. Fairway-adjacent rough not too penal but beyond that you can be in the wilds. Pace was sluggish but nobody cared. Friendly, easy going group made for a pleasant round. The long uphill tee shot on the second hole will test you for length while the rest of the course is not particularly long. That said there are some pretty challenging holes in the mix that require precision. With a hilly topography, the walk is a workout for nine holes, the views are classic LA, and the course is fun. If you've never been here, it really is worth checking out. Be prepared to hang out in the breezeway afterwards and have a beverage while soaking up the vibe.

I really like the LA City network of courses, which this is a part of. It's a nine hole executive course, consisting of six par 4s and three par 3s. None of the holes are particularly long, but it's up in the hills, which provides some challenges, between the elevation changes, doglegs, and trees.

Like the other LA City courses, it's in surprisingly good shape, given how much play it gets - it's booked all day, every day, AND they allow fivesomes (which does slow play down, especially since it's also walking-only). There are bare/thin spots in some areas, particularly tee boxes, but for the most part, it's lush everywhere, and the greens roll well. And at a cost of less than $20, you can't beat the value.

Took a friend passing through town out to Roosevelt for on Tuesday 3/22, joining a single and another two-some. Really very nice conditions for what it is. The teeing grounds are generally pretty level with good coverage and they've done sod work on a number of them to make them rather lush right now. Nice to see the work and results. Fairways here are a little tighter than usual given it is winter, but still good coverage and I find it more complete and relatively thicker than many places I play. Rough really varies from a little longer than the fairway and playable if you get an up lie, to some serious underbrush in spots and pine needles if you go a little further astray. The bunkers had some stray dips and footprints and could use grooming, but there was more clean space and the sand quality is good. Short game areas varied from light rough to tight lies. The greens were nice — a pretty clean, healthy surface with minimal ball marks, running medium quick. A touch on the warm side it was a very nice day to be out there. With the exception of the usual backup on #6, in this case two groups worth, the general pace was pretty good. The group was pleasant, I pointed out the iconic LA features to my buddy and everybody expressed appreciation for the course. A few weeks left before they punch the greens, the place is a cool little gem and I recommend checking it out.

Played out here on a cool Friday afternoon. Old school muni. Tree boxes are generally flat but 3 are being rebuilt shortening already short holes. Fairways are generally flat but you will find many divots. No cats so no sand to repair the marks. Rough is generally pretty short but just long enough to mess with your contact. Greens are generally smooth without much break. They played on the real slow side today with the recent rains. No one in the group hit the sand. POP is slow. 2.5+hours for 9. 10 minute tee times and many 5 somes. Overall it's an enjoyable track if you don't grow impatient with a slow POP. No better way than to cap off the week with a little Friday afternoon work hookie.

Went out as single joining four other singles for a 1:50 start on Monday 1/3. Not having played over the holidays and feeling a bit unsure about my swing, nine at Roosevelt seemed like a nice way to ease into it for the new year. I wasn't disappointed, although with some qualifications. Most of the teeing grounds were forward of their normal positions, in a couple of cases because the main teeing area was chewed up for renovation while for others it just seemed the decision for the day. Given my mindset, I was fine with it. Fairways here can be a bit lumpy in spots but they are mostly fine with good, consistent, mown coverage. Rough was green and reasonably playable if you weren't off in the underbrush. Around the greens the run-up and surrounding areas were often tight (but green) for pitching and the rest varied from a little thicker to thinner. The greens took deep pitch marks but ran a brisk medium and were pretty clean. Never got into a bunker nor witnessed play from one, so little intel on those although they looked OK. Overall I'd rate the conditions more than acceptable at the low end and good for the most part. But that doesn't do it justice. The weather was about as perfect as you could ask for as far as a California winter day. There are some great views peaking through at various point of the course as well as strollers, runners and bikers adjacent to some of the boundaries that make for interesting people watching while waiting on shots. Pace was sluggish at times but nobody seemed to care. The course itself has visual interest and wildlife. The group of singles of which I was a part were all sociable, pleasant company. My blowup holes were not pretty, but a majority of pars for the non-blowup holes left me feeling like I was doing enough things right and encouraged me for the next outing. It was a great place and time to be outside (on a golf course, no less) and a total experience that exceeded the sum of its not unpleasant parts. Quirky in spots, I think the course is a gem.

Played very early this Sunday morning, at 5:40, was able to join a very gentlemanly foursome after the first hole. This was my regular course for several years but have only played it a couple of times since the remodel. Today, the conditions were some of the best I've seen here. Only the scruffy tee boxes on some of the holes were bothersome. Fairways were plush and green. Greens were medium speed, and perfectly smooth. Bunkers seemed fine. How nice it is to see Roosevelt back in shape. Will be back soon!
