Well, I agree with t25452 ... things are getting 'iffy' here at the Creek. Not bad, mind you, just far from 'awesome'. No. 4 green is a complete mess, it's in need of lot's of TLC. Other greens range from decent to shaggy depending, not rolling true at all unless your lucky. Fairways are cut a bit low in spots, damp to muddy in others ... most of the time we had decent lies. Rough is a bit patchy. Pace of play was 4.5 hrs, which was great for a Friday after noon. Nice course to play, a bit pricey for what you get (but the Creek card helps, $60 w/cart). In fact, I'd say 'iffy' sums it up quite well.

Played 10-1-08. Course was in awesome shape. A few extra ball marks but that's not the courses fault. Play it now. Manager said they will be shaving fairways in the next couple of weeks. Call ahead.

I play TC all the time and now is the time of year where conditions get iffy here. BACK NINE GREENS HAVE BEEN PUNCHED! I was told that when I called so I knew what I was getting into. But, they were running a discounted rate (at least for yesterday and today). Even the greens that hadn't been punched (front nine) were not in the best condition. Majority of fairways hadn't been mowed in a while, too (specifically #1 and #3). Majority of tee boxes hadn't been mowed in a while either. It's just a little rough around the edges for what they want to be a high end experience. Gotta say, conditions at San Juan Hills are much better right now. I'd avoid TC for a few months at least. Chris in pro shop was awesome, as usual. Cool cat.

Play here often and I have to say the course is in unusually rough shape given we haven't had a particularly hot summer. Fairways are dry with several dead areas. Tee boxes have quite a few areas with severe divot damage. Greens are definitely in need of being punched. Always a fun track but it has seen better days.

Played Thursday afternoon 8-14 at 1pm. I am a member of the Men's club here and I have a lot of love for the course and the folks who work there. I would have to agree with jaykim5708, the greens are a little marked up and there were some bare spots in the fairways. But as far a customer service goes you can't beat it. A little slow 4:50, but we kept moving. I have played worse courses. Back there next Wed for Mens Club tournament.

Overall shape of course was nice, wish I could say the same for my game :-)

Some Tee boxes were not level, and some were severly damaged and hard as a rock

Greens were pretty consistent in speed, but they were severely pock mocked.....All summer worth of play as guess is to be expected.

Customer service excellent

Tee off at 2pm and saw the concession cart at least 3x, some places your hard pressed to find one

After the round they even cleaned off my clubs!!

I wouldnt pay full green fees, but for 50 bones you cant beat that!

Played Super Twilight on August 7. The front side has a great fairly classic layout and has some well laid out holes with plenty of space for wayward shots (if you miss on the right side). The back side is a ledge/valley layout, the first 4 holes are on top of a ridge and the last 5 play back through the gulley. Although some of the shots are visually intimidating, the back is considerably easier than the front as long as you can drive it straight (length not important). Course conditions were OK. Several fairways had damage from being too soft (severe lawn mower tracks) and the greens were VERY hard. More than that, be prepared to underclub into the greens because incoming shots will skip and don't grab the greens. Getting up and down is a challenge and unlike most SoCal courses, plan to land pitches short of the green/in the rough because everything will release a long way. All in all, an average course with average conditions for an average price, but I wouldn't pay full price.

Maybe we had good luck because it appears that the course has improved since the last postings as the greens okay, semi firm and rolled true, and the fairways were in good shape. Polite, friendly staff. Our Sunday round: teed off at 9:30 and finished by 1:45 ... apparently, the marshal was doing his job. Some lower areas had standing water so they are keeping the sprinklers going. Altogether, an enjoyable experience and they're making the effort to keep the course up to par.

Compared to recent months for this course, the conditions were mediocre to just fair. Perhaps last week's rain caused some problems, especially in back-nine, and not enough time to recover fully. Greens were inconsistent from slow to bumpy to fast depending on locations. Had to play behind a five-some and the round took just about 5 hours, which I find rather unacceptable for a weekday play. Don't mind so much the five-some per se, but four of them should have played from white tees instead of back tees. Didn't take too long before they were two holes behind the group ahead. It bewilders me as to why some people insist on playing beyond their abilities. Golf should be fun and challenging, but I suppose some people prefer self-imposed suffering for the sake of their egos. In any event, I'd wait a few more weeks for the fairways and tee boxes to heal before playing Tijeras.

I was rather disapointed with the condition. The greens have not yet recovered from the recent punching, plus many even appeared as though they had not been cut that day, and the fairways at times were ragged and uncut. I guess for $80, you expect more, considering the condition ofthe city/county courses in LA, which only cost $23.00. Plus it took over 5 hours. I like the course, but seems like a lot of $$ for what I got in return.

Played in the afternoon on 4/17. Course was pretty full, but not too bad for pace of play. Teed off around 3:40 and got in 16. Course is in good shape and the greens almost all the way back from aeration. Main issue involved a few ball-eating canyons on the back nine - not the course's fault!

Played Saturday 4-19, teeing off at noon. Play was pretty fast considering it was a late tee time and a weekend. The course has indeed healed from the aeration a few weeks back and is in terrific shape. I can't think of anything to complain about.

It took a while, but the greens have completely healed from the holes, sand , ruts, rifts, grooves or whatever you want to call it. The course is in great shape. There are no more excuses for missing putts!! My only negative is the sand quality of the greenside bunkers.

Great golf experience in South OC. A must play! Challenging and fun course. The condition of the bunkers (sometimes not being raked), and ball mark not being fixed are typical of many OC courses. Everybody (from Golf Clubs to USGA) should encourage golfers to always fix divots & ball marks.

played this course for the first time last friday...finished 15 holes after starting at 4:10, which is not bad at all

the only problem with this course right now is the greens...its been a couple weeks since aeration, but they are still on the way back...they are still sandy and bumpy and slow, which is kind of annoying...

other than that, everything else at this course is great...the fairways are in terrific shape, as is the rough...tee boxes and traps are fine, as well

also, the views on the back nine are great...i dont care too much for the front nine, necessarily, but the back nine is gorgeous

Played some super twilight today 3.31. Greens are not even near healed yet, be warned. They are still totally showing from the punch, very bumpy, very sandy, very soft, and very slow.

Fairways are in great condition, but I would give them at least a couple weeks before going out here.

played with creek card for $40.00 at 1pm. aerated last week so greens sucked, but fairways were like carpet. not worth $110.00 on weekends.

back nine is tighter than front, so use 3 woods or irons off tee. driver on front 9....will play again at a reduced rate.....

forgot to mention the 8-some in front of us, they were buddies and decided to tee off on #4 together. 5 hour round and marshall didn't do anything about them. they got the hint when i drove into them on 13 and got moving. i had enough.

I swore I'd never post again, but I just can't keep my mouth shut on this one. Played Tijeras on Wed the 6th and again on Sat 9th. The course is absolutely in fabulous (sorry guys, I'm a lady) shape! What a difference a week makes (from last poster). Wed was cart path for the first hour or so - in lieu of frost delay. Saturday was only a few holes. Yes, there are still tee, fairway and green divots, but the greens are not as bad as many other courses in that department. I have been playing TC for 10 years + and I can't ever remember their greens being this fast and true. Are they finally rolling them?! I always highly recommend this course and right now you will find the best conditions ever. Unfortuately if you play 10 am or later on the weekends you will suffer the 5.5 hour rounds, escpecially if they have a tourney going on as they did yesterday. We teed off around 10:30 and finished at 3 on the dot. Still the best value for your buck in So. OC. And the staff continues to be top notch. We saw the beverage cart 3-4 times on each 9.

Still cartpath only....Maybe this weekend if no rain you can go off cartpath I walk anyway. It is a very enjoyable course to walk. There are just a few uphill treks that are not that fun. The course is very green and lush. The greens are a bit thin but still roll well.

Played today 2/2. Course is in pretty good shape. Like usual, lots of unrepaired divots in the fairways and lots of ball marks on the greens, but the course is really green which is nice. Tee boxes were good, and even though people don't fill their divots in the fairways, the fairways were nice. Greens rolling between 8 and 9 I think. This is a good course with cool staff.

Bad stuff = pace of P L A Y......
Totally ridiculous. How people can fall behind when the course is on 5 and a half hour pace is beyond me. Teed off at 130 and hadn't even played the entire 3rd hole by 230. This is miserable and turns a nice course into an excrutiating experience. I will not being going back to Tijeras unless it's bright and early going forward.

I recommend this course, just play in the morning and not the afternoon!

i PLAYED IN A CARD HOLDER TOURNAMENT TUESDAY, JAN 8. 7:30 SHOTGUN. THE OVERALL COURSE WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, THOUGH THEY HAD 4" OF RAIN DURING THE WEEKEND, WHICH MADE IT A CART PATH ONLY DAY, WHICH DID EXTEND OUR PLAYING TIME. BUT, FROM TEE BOX THROUGH THE FAIRWAYS TO THE GREENS, THE COURSE WAS IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION. NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, I GUESS I'M NOT A TYPICAL "GOLFER". OH YEAH! THERE WHERE SOME TEE BOXES THAT SHOWED SOME SEVERE DIVOTS AND THERE WAS SOME STANDING WATER IN SOME PARTS OF THE COURSE. WHEW! I AM A GOLFER I DID FIND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. THANK YOU. PLEASE WELCOME ME BACK AS A 'GOLFER'.
I WILL PLAY HERE AGAIN

Played here twice in the last week...first off on 1/2 and in the Creek Card tourney yesterday. Course is lush and in very good shape. Greens are very good, except for #5 which is full of ball marks (par 3) and a three inch by three inch chunk taken out of the middle of it (like someone hit a three iron off the green). Fairway are wet, but lush. It's card path only as they had 4 inches of rain so of course there are many muddy spots. Rough was thick and wet. Course is in real good shape.

Played TC for the first time 12/27. The bad news first was that it was slow. Had to wait consistently, starting at the first tee and many thereafter -- sometimes doubled up. We started a little before 1:00 and even with a moderately decent pace, I think there would have been a good chance to finish 18. As it was, we finished 14 in the dusk. It's always disappointing not to finish the 18, but particularly because I liked the course a lot and would have loved to get the full experience. The second paragraph of the Surveyor's Report sums it up well. The greens were a little dinged up with ball marks, but not too bad and with good pace. The front nine reminded me of Tustin Ranch, parts of the back nine Ojai Valley. It's out of my way, so I don't know when I'll get another chance to play there, but if the opportunity comes up, I'll go for it. Nice facility, interesting course in good condition. For those in closer proximity that might play the course more often, the discount card they are selling at a reduced price right now looks like it would be a good bargain.

Played twilight on 11/21 and got ten holes in. The overseeding is complete and the course is lush from tee to green. Greens were running slow. Fairways had not been cut in a few days to allow the new grass to come in completely. If you like a green golf course, play Tijeres in the next two weeks.

To my surprise, they have not touched the greens! The fairways are in the process of being overseeded, they have all been scalped. That said, they actually played fairly nice. all things considered. Just lots of "cuttings" lying around. The staff was wonderful and with the current specials. a good deal.

i agree that this course is awesome. i played here back in april and was
totally into the contrasting design of the 2 nines. the conditions were really good too.

i think any golfer should know that a golf course is designed and built BUT is still 100% natural and totally vunerable to nature's way.
this means, even with a great maintenance staff, things can still go wrong.

i look forward to playing this course again. glad to see some updates so i know to give the crew the time it needs to make it right again.

fyrmng,

You are welcome. I agree about playing other courses and there are some good ones with great fees in Riverside counties and others. We really liked Dos Lagos the new one in Corona. Back to Tijeras - we played again on Sunday the 23rd and we are really encouraged at the course recovery. They have even put in new flag sticks and cups - this is great news because the ones they had were the worst! If you hit them with your ball, they were deflected a long ways away and could cost you a hole in one. I am sure that overseeding is on the horizon as well as punching the greens, it is that time of year. That will surely help this great course recover. As for me, I will continue to play there because it is close, great price with the creek card (I have earned my 4th free weekend rate) and the staff is really wonderful.

As Tijeras is my home course, I can't help but respond to others reviews and update the course. I still play every Wed and 2 other times a week there. In fact I am playing today at 8. They are working very hard at getting the course back in shape and it is showing. The front greens are getting better and better. Although they look pretty bad, the are starting to roll pretty good again. They are not soaking the course quite as much now. Just because they had a little bad luck with their pump breaking and the fungus on some of the greens, does not mean you should write this course off or never come back. It is a beautiful course and will soon be back in beautiful conditions.

Played here a couple of months back and the course was in good shape. Played here today and it was just terrible. From tee to green the course is in atrocious condition. Fairways thin or wet or just hardpan. Bunkers were a mess. Some had very little sand and some were totally overfilled with what seemed like beach sand. I don't mind sand but at least be consistent...and some had water. And the greens....never have I putted on worse greens. When the guy on the phone said the greens were slow I should've asked why. They were cut like the first cut of rough. Think low shag rug and that is the speed. And the ballmarks and fungus. All-in-all, a terrible experience. And, yardage markers are very scarce. There is not a single redeeming thing about this course right now. Spend your money somewhere else because you'll just be wasting it here.

I played this last Sunday and was shocked to see the condition this course has deteriorated to!
this was one of my favorite courses and I have no idea how it could get this bad this quick.
The greens were very bumpy and looked like no one ever fixed a ball mark. There were bare spots
and standing water, mud, hardpan all on the same fairway. Maybe there has been too many tournaments or
the course superintendent has been on vacation for a month but it is a real shame the way they have let this
course go.

I play TC regularly - during the week with the women's club and usually on Sunday's as well. As the posters below say, the greens are in bad shape as are many tee boxes. It is a shame because just before their pump broke the course was in awesome shape. They are making some good changes, signs on the tee boxes, more yardage markers, fixing the tee boxes. Then they were without water for 4-5 days, very bad timing. It also allowed the fungus to grow on many of the greens. It is sad that many players don't fix ball marks and just because the greens are suffering right now does not mean we should be even less attentive. Be patient, I am certain they will bring this course back to fabulous shape. It is still a great value compared to many OC tracks. The staff is one of the best I have ever seen (I could be biased though because everybody knows me there). The Creek Card is also very worth it if you play there regularly. I have already received 3 free weekend rates this year.

Played here on 8/13 during twilight period (tee time after 3:30). I consider this my home course and play here several time a month year round. I have never seen it in worse condition! Talking to staff who said the water pumps went out for 4 or 5 days. The tee boxes were beat up, fairways were OK, greens were horrible. It appears that the hot humid conditions has allowed some sort of fungus to creep into alot of the greens. This coupled with the lack of players repairing their ballmarks made putting a joke. I normally enjoy this track and because I live so close to it I consider it home. Cancelled my time for next week and going to Aroyyo Trabuco or San Juan Hills. The one plus at Tijeras is the staff. Everyone from the Range to the 19th hole is very helpful and friendly. What happened to George in the bar?

I play this course a lot and it is one of the best around; however, at this time of year it's too hot for the grass and greens and is over played and the course just can't recover. As soon as they reseed and let the greens breath for a week or two this course will return to its place as one of the best around but until then it's simply beat up!

Played on 8/4. Play this course regularly, usually once every couple weeks. Beware, probably about half of the greens have some sort of fungus going on. One hole on the back, either 12, 13, or 14, is almost completely ruined right now. Rest of the course is in normal shape which is good. Due to the fungus or whatever is going on with the greens, the greens are very bumpy. Other than that, the course is great. Rough is not punitive at all. Front 9 holes are wide open. Back 9 holes are like a totally different course, very tight in spots, with multiple forced carries and great surroundings.

I read a posting saying customer service is bad here. I totally disagree. While I do think almost every course in OC is overpriced, TC has a great staff and they do a good job handling a very busy course. I usually play early sat or sun and have never made a tee time. I have never had to wait longer than 1/2 hour. Much better customer service at TC than most other public OC courses.

Greens were very good but the course played slow at first. Speeded up after first 9 and we started to move at a pretty good pace. Finished in about 5 hours. Not bad considering the back 9 of this course along the canyon!!!. Sand traps were fairly tough. Need more sand to cover the hard pan. Fairways were pretty good as were the tee boxes. Greens however rolled pretty true.

Gosh, I fogot to mention the bunkers. Some are okay, as in normal sand lightly fluffed, some slightly damp below the surface ... no problem. But beware, for several (I found a couple on the back side) that very hard with rocks the size of tennis balls (no kidding). Don't know what's going on there but BE CAREFULL!

Scratch another one off the 'must play' list: played on Sat. 7/14/07 in the afternoon. Overall, some course knowledge would help as there are some narrow fairways, unknown distances (no GPS), and blind corner shots, but all-in-all a very nice golf outing. I can see some room for improvments as stated in the previous postings ... the only comment I'd make is that I expected the greens to be a bit quicker. Of course, that could change depending on the day you play. The two nines are as different as night and day: front is 'through the neighborhood' golf and the back is 'canyon-target' golf. Both are set up nicely with beautiful landscaping and just enough quirks to make it fun and interesting. Just under a C-note to play on the weekend (the poster child for high-end OC courses) look for afternoon rates or other discounts to save a few bucks.

Played twilight on 7/2 finishing around 8:00PM, missing the heat of the day. From first hole to last the course is in great shape. Tee boxes are fine, sand traps are playable and fairways are an 8 out of 10. The course superintendent is to be commended. Tijeras management is watering the course constantly but end result is conditions cannot be beat. Enjoy the course before the heat takes a toll.

I play this course often (about every 4-6 weeks) and have to say this is the worst I have seen the conditions. Tee boxes are beat up and dead in several areas. Fairways and rough are dry, many bare spots, and browning all over... and we haven't even gotten to the heat of the year yet. Greens were in decent shape and running without much bump or hickup. I am a little disappointed as this is one of my favorite courses.

Played 6/4/07. Overall enjoyed the course. Some fairways a little narrow. The bunkers were punishing and made worse by players that don't rake afer they finish digging out. Staff were very friendly.

The condition of the course continues to improve. I thought the greens were much better than when I last played here in April. Much smoother and quicker. In general the course is much better. They are using a rather unique "areation" of the areas adjacent to the greens, punching and filling with sand at the same time, rather large holes (free drop) Nice to see they are trying to bringthis place back to where it once was. And with the senior rate and complimentary creek card (from the golf show) only costs $45.00 - quite reasonable!

Played on 5/31. The course was in fair to good shape. We
used to play here alot. I remember the course being in better condition. Stopped playing here because there are better conditioned courses for the money. Wish the greenskeeper would kick it up a notch because I like the layout/staff.

Played on Thursday am and staff was very friendly. the course was better than i played about 6 months ago, especially the tee boxes. overall, i would give the course a 7. my only complaint was that we went off at 745 and it took almost 5 hours to play, longer than it should. group in front of us was normally a hole down and marshalls did not seem to care.

Played a mid-week round. The pace of play was slow. This was my first time playing the course and there is no question that the front nine and the back nine are like two completely different courses. The front nine meanders through a bunch of condos. The back nine plays up, down, over, and through a canyon. The course conditions overall are above average. There is no GPS on the carts, but sprinkler heads were relatively easy to locate.

Played 5/29. 4 hour pace with a 9am tee time. Front nine was a little ragged. Tee boxes hadn't been mowed in a while, nor the fairways. Back nine was a little better maintained in those regards. Must have been mowing back from 18. Lots of standing water on the course. Left and back of green on #2 was a swamp as was path from cart path to green on #10. Balls would just plug. #4 was cart path only, as were a few other holes. Greens rolled true and were in generally good shape. Honestly, San Juan Hills is in better shape. Customer service was great. NOTE: THE RANGE DOES NOT OPEN TIL 9am on TUESDAYS! They should put that on their website. But, since the range was closed and we'd all arrived early to hit some balls, they did a good job of getting us out about 15 minutes before our scheduled time.

Played early 4/26/07, pace of play under 4 hours! Greens recovering from the recent punching. They'll be much better in a few weeks! Course still needs some attention, but getting better!

Played 04/07. This is a good course overall; fairways are generous, greens are not that big and are not severely undulated which is good-- some greens have tiers. However, the greens are still recovering from a recent aeration and are slow, spongy, bumpy, and the holes hasn't been moved for a while... The fairways rolls decent, nice and hard but not dry-- very lush. I was surprised how much fun it was.

All I can say is...drag they're punching next week! The course is in great shape! Thickest I've seen the rough here. It was not good to be in it! Wonderful conditions. Very lush. Everything in great shape.

The course may be in best conditions since last October. Fairways, especially, are noticeably improved since the winter months. Tee boxes in back nine, however, need more TLC. Otherwise, the course is very playable and should be quite nice by April. Took about 5 1/2 hours to play the round.

What a great improvement since I last played here in December. The fairways are very nice, greens coming along , and the bunkers were also in great shape. Even the rough, which had been thin and spotty is growing in nicely. Good to see the course is getting back to where it once was. Kudo's to the maintainence staff!

I have been playing this course for years. It has had its ups and downs, but right now the course is in the best condition I have ever seen. Even the renovated bunkers are finally starting to play like bunkers, but they still have a ways to go - too many rocks, too much sand, and hole # 6 actually has a pipe running through the pock bunker in front of the green. I found it a couple rounds ago, ouch!

The marshals are good about "trying" to keep the speed up, but I stay clear of Saturday's - it is pretty slow and even tee times after 11 on Sunday can be a 5-6 hour round.

Like the poster below, I will never understand why they mess with the greens so much. I played on 2/19 and they were slow. 2 days later on the 21st, I was blowing them by the hole 4-6 feet! Just as soon as they get them in pristine condition, they punch them. And I heard that they don't roll them often enough and that they don't use the ring around the hole creating a "crown" letting many putts "fall off".

Still, it is a very fun, challenging course and the back 9 is so different from the front.

With the Creek Card, it is the best value in Orange County for a "higher end" course. Strawberry at $150 is ridiculous and the last time I played not in great condition. I love Arroyo, but not in the winter time with the dormant fairways, and they raised their rates!

Course is in suprisingly good shape. Fairways are still green while most others courses are dorment right now. Green are better than some posts have let on... slower than some courses but still fairly smooth. I do find them spongy at time which is likely why so many complain about the occasional bumps. In my opinion, this is still one of the best public courses around.

Played here 1/13/07 and as usual the course is in great shape except the GREENS!!!!! I just don't understand why they can't figure out how to keep the greens in good shape. I'm not a greenskeeper by any means, but I dont get how 6 weeks ago the greens were SMOOTH and FAST, and literally 2 weeks later I played and they were CRAP. I played here again last week and they have ALREADY sanded the greens again after just overseeding and punching them 6 weeks prior. The greens were SUPER BUMPY, with sand all over them so that your approach shots would just skip across the sand like little ball bearings, and it makes it nearly impossible to make any short birdie putts because you just had to hope that it would get a lucky bounce and make it in the hole. This is my home course and I love it, and the Staff is GREAT, and the Course is GREAT, but the greens are absolute GARBAGE. I'll be back every other week like usual because it is a great course. I just wish the greenskeeper would talk to a greenskeeper from a sister course to get some advise on how to keep them fast and smooth.

Great Value in Southern California! First time I played this course was yesterday and found it to be in great shape. Greens were fast and smooth. Golf Shop informed me of a Membership Program called the "Creek Card". By joining this program the rates are better than any other course for the value you receive. I will definitely be back!

Played on the 12/21 and what a difference there has been from summer time play. Greens and fairways in great condition. One thing that I enjoy now are the greens. They finaly roll without jumping and skipping around. Great job out there greenskeepers. Play was just under 4:15, seems pretty long for a Wednesday afternoon. Best public course in South County by far. ck

Played here on 12/2/06. I have been playing this course for many years now, and I must say that I have never seen the course in better shape. The greens which are usually the downfall of this course, were absolutely PERFECT! They were super fast, rolling around 11 or 12 speedwise, without any bumpyness or bare spots. The fairways were very lush but still a little long, but they just re-seeded so no big deal. Just amazed by the greens. WOW. Get out here and play while the greens last.

The course just got done with their over seed period. I have played this course for many years and have never seen it so good! The overall condition is night and day different from this summer. They said this summer was tough because of the severe heat and they also mentioned that they have recently purchased new walking mowers for the greens which has definately helped the conditions of the greens. Great course, great service, great value!

I'd say this is my home course (have their Creek Card and play it a couple times a month). Hadn't been out since June due to busy summer. The conditions are on par with the heat they've had and the time of year. I'd agree with previous posts that the greens are lacking. They were okay Wednesday, but I've seen them much better. Shocking thing is on many holes there were what looked like ruts from tire tracks on some of the greens. It's a dramatic setting. A good value for the OC at $50 with the discount card.

Played 9/25/06 in a shotgun scramble tournament on a sunny, breezy day. I hadn’t played here in ~10 years, so negative comments on this website and other similar sites had me concerned about course condition. Today the course condition was generally very good. Greens were a little spiky but all rolled well. Greens were smaller than I remembered, and many are elevated. Some had lots of ballmark damage – it seems that very few people repair their marks – I don’t understand it. Since it was a scramble tourney, we played out of only one bunker – ours was damp, others had what looked like very fluffy sand. Fairways were a little thin but generally in good shape. Rough was variable between thin and fluffy, depending on whether it had been cut recently. Several places (most adjacent to greens) where resodding had recently been done. Staff was friendly throughout. Cart girl came by 2 or 3 times each 9 holes. Plenty of drinking water available. However, no yardage book (said they were redoing it after some course modifications) or GPS, so newcomers are on their own about distances. But sprinklers were well-marked once out on the fairway. Overall recommended. Great views and huge oak trees in the canyon section of the back nine.

I should have known better - read the reviews and decided to see for myself. Well, the reviews are correct. The greens suck! Slow, with lots of bumps. I expected poor greens, what I didn't expect was how poor the fringe areas were. Really sad to see how this wonderful course has been neglected. I have to admit that they were putting down sod by #12 green, so maybe things will improve. Hope so!

Nice course. The greens had alot of unrepaired ball marks, and alot of divots in the fairway that nobody covered. I found myself on every tee box repairing other bad divot with mix. The starter was not very helpful, and put us behind 2 foursomes and waited every hole on the 1st nine. There was a wedding going on so we had to skip the 10th hole.

The back 9 was very fun to play, but bring extra balls because there is alot of hazards. 1st 9 was very flat and wide. All together I paid $35 for super twilight which was a GREAT deal, but I dont think I would play full price. course gets a 7 out of 10 for me, but they could work on customer service.

This is a very nice course with really bad GREENS & BUNKERS. It seems that the greens are being sanded and punched every other month. They never seem to be in good shape. The fairway bunkers have about 4 extra inches of sand, and the greenside bunkers are bare; they seem to have it backwards. The rest of the course is usually in immaculate shape. The fairways are always in great shape. It is a beautiful course, and the back nine plays through a canyon. This is my home course and I love it, I just wish that they would do something with the sand and the Horrible, GREENS... I mean the greens just dont match the rest of the course. By all means they are playable, but they look like they belong on some Muni Course somewhere. Worth playing for sure. Great deal if you join the Creek Card.

Played TC on 7/25. Well, tried to play anyway. We had a 2:30 pm tee time, figuring 6 hours would be enough to finish. Wrong. Course was running 1:15 late, so we got out at 3:45 pm and were only able to finish 14 holes in 5 1/2 hours. Incredibly slow - way too many groups put on the course.

Note to course management: don't overcrowd course, players happy, players return. Overcrowd course, players frustrated, players don't return. Which is the better business model?

Course conditions - generally mediocre. Nothing terrible, but nothing spectacular.

Played Tijeras at 2:30 on Monday, June 12, for a $60 rate. The course is in great shape, with two notable exceptions ... the greens and the bunkers. The bunkers are some of the most inconsistent I've ever played. Some have pretty normal sand, others are like spun sugar the sand is so fine. In the latter bunkers, any shot that lands there will create a "crater" for the ball to sit down in. Not to mention none of the bunkers anywhere on the course had been raked, so footprints were everywhere. The greens were really firm, which is surprising compared with so many other locals courses. They were also really, REALLY bumpy - putts were wobbling all over the place. It's OK to play here during the week, maybe for the $60 twilight rate, but the course conditions don't warrant paying one cent more than that.

Played two rounds on June 9th for my birthday. Conditions are improving. Greens are a little better than last time I was here on May 20th. Still lots of bare spots in the greens. On #11 there's a huge bare spot in the back left area of the green. In the morning the pin was placed very near that spot, which seemed silly to me. On our second round, the pin had been relocated to another position. Pace of play was great. They were starting off the back, which I hate cuz the back is so much harder. Gives you no time to find your groove. Chris is pro shop is great. Very helpful. Nice deal with replay round of $35. I still wish they'd let the rough grow up more; would make for a true test. But, most likely would also slow play considerably and slow play here is already a problem on the weekends.

Played on Sun, 6/3 as part of a small tournament, of which many were higher caps so it played very slow.

I echo the thought of t25452 - course has a nice layout and conditions were pretty good...except the greens. Numerous unrepaired pitch marks and scars and they still have not fully recovered from verticut...made for some pretty average putting surfaces.

Will play it again, but will wait until greens return to better conditions.

I really liked the par 3's. Course was in good shape and you really need to keep it straight on the back nine. Rough needs to be a little thicker, no penalty if your in it. This is a must play and a reasonable rate.

Play here often. Must say, wasn't too impressed today. Greens were not so great. Looks like they verticut them this week; some sand. LOTS of unrepaired ball marks and the scars left by them. Also, the front third of the green on #5 had lots of bare spots. So, I give the greens a 5. Fairways were fine. Rough wsa pretty non existent. So much better when they let it grow out some. Course wasn't too lush. Can't imagine why. Usually it's very lush. It looked like it would in August. Lots of unrepaired divots in fairways; especially #12 and #15. Conditions weren't horrible; i've just seen it so much better. Also, the pace of place was abysmal! 12:30 tee time. Finished at 6pm! Now I know why I usually avoid weekend golf.

What a wonderful course....second time played here and always in immaculate shape. The back 9 is such a pretty course....especially the Par 3's. Also a very challenging back 9. It would help if the 11th, 12th and 13th holes were not cart path only. If you have not played here often, very difficult to figure out your distances from the holes without any GPS on the carts. Can't wait to play here again....one of my favorite courses now.

Still one of the best values in OC. Fairways and greens are great as always. Bunkers quality was good but people need to fix their tracks. Some of the tee boxes has some uncharateristic heavy damage. Must have been from the tournament earlier in the week because normal players usually aren't that good. In any event, I would recommend anyone who has yet to play this course to come down. Bought their Creek Card recently and have played a couple rounds. When they say a tale of 2 nines...they weren't kidding. Front nine winds through a residential area. Very forgiving with will maintained fairways and greens. The back nine is well maintained as well but makes its way down into the creek with brush bordering all fairways. Forget your "A" game...and bring your " STRAIGHT" game for this back nine. Nice elevation changes in a natural setting. Check out the creek card...it pays almost pays for itself before your first round.

First time at this course after a strong recommendation from a friend, and what an impressive course. Only got to play the front 9 twice as the back was closed because of rain today. Based on the front 9 alone, this is one of my top 3 OC courses. Wide and perfectly maintained fairways, clean greens with some challenging elevation changes, and no nasty rough. Greens fees are very fair by OC standards. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Started late Monday afternoon (about 4pm) and finished by 7:30. The course is in great condition; very lush and not beat up. The staffs were very nice and very cooperative. Only complaint would be the inconsistent bunker; a couple bunkers looked fluffy but thin. The greens were slow and bumpy at times but were consistent and lush. Absolutely worth the $35 green fees.

Course in fair enough shape today. Greens are very wet. They spread ammonia sulfate (?; white granules that green up your lawn!) on all the greens and therefore soaked all the greens. but, only really affected putting on a few holes. on #5 par three the regular blue tees are being resodded as is the tee box on #16. good pace of play. staff was polite and accomodating (i was a single, got me out in no time with another single). fairways were cut tight. we played in under four hours.

It's too bad some have mentioned having a hard time with customer service at this course. I've never encountered a problem. I play the course at least twice a month (creek card holder). Everyone has always been courteous. We played today under awesome blue skies with crystal clear vistas of the surrounding hills and snowcapped mountains. At many spots, it was like looking at a fake backdrop. Course is in decent shape. It was cart path only due to wet conditions, but it was so hot today (mid 80s) and windy the course dried out and the marshall politely advised us halfway through our round that we could drive on the fairways. That helped speed things up considerably. Fairways were a little long on some holes (#1 through 4; 6 and 8) but the whole back nine the fairways were freshly cut. There were lots of maintanence workers mowing (probably the first mow since the rain last week). Greens were a little hit and miss. #9 green had a bunch of dead spots, but other areas of the green were nice. Many of the greens had spots from healing ball marks. But, overall, they weren't horrific. Tee boxes were a little beat up, especially on the par threes. On #16, back tee boxes are closed for major healing so it only played 135 yards from a tee box that would be better described as a patch of dirt. Bunkers could use some machine grooming. But, considering it'd rained two inches there just three days ago, conditions were just fine. And, we saw the cart girl three times, which is good. And, no, I don't work at the course!

Played 1/1/06 between rain storms - cart path only. Previous posters were not far off about the customer service. Cart girls were frequent enough. No GPS on carts but there were enough sprinklers with yardage marked. Decent track but back nine is tighter. Course maintenance was good given the recent rains. Not a great value but I'll play again with a discount.

I should have known not to give this course a second chance. The conditions were good, however the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish my round due to a neck injury. When I asked for a rain check the Pro (hardly professional though) said not on a day like today ( it wasn't raining). He suggested I could play the front nine again. He didn't seem to care that I couldn't play anymore holes. Whatever! Avoid this course at all costs if you want anything that resembles customer service. There are plenty of other courses that appreciate your patronage. I've played here at least 5 times and it is consistently bad.

I called to ask about the course condition and was told it was great. When we arrived the greens were sanded. There was one cart girl for the entire 18. We saw her on the first hole and after teeing off on 18. If you like very poor customer service (sanded greens (12/20/05) after calling to ask about the conditions, poor cart service and $4.00 8oz coffee this is the place. Great course especially for the single digit handicaps but don't expect a high level of customer service.

Course was soggy from watering and overseeding but the layout was tremendous. I'd like to play it when the fairways weren't so shaggy and wet. Carts on path slowed the pace of play.

played on internet special ($50) this morning. Beautiful weather made it a VERY enjoyable day. Greens and f'ways were fine. All tee boxes were closed except white (and they were pretty beat up). Cart path only due to overseeding, but that's the price we pay to play year-round. I don't mind the extra walk. Great service all around and the greens held especially nice today. Great place to play!!

Play this course alot (Creek Card holder, which is a great deal). Paid $45 (overseed special). Conditions were okay; we were rightfully warned. Cart path only til the 25th. Everything was very wet. Lots of standing water in fairways and on greens. #7, the hole was full of water. Greens had recently been vericut; in two weeks, whole course will be in great shape. Wait to go out. Starting Friday, 11/18 it's back to full price. Don't pay it. Wait til first of December when conditions will be better.

Course was in the middle of shaving the fairways for reseeding and still was in great condition. Compared to the price of other OC courses, Tijeras is a good bang for the buck. Sunday Happy hour was a nice surprise at the 19th.

After reading some of the posted comments, I was pleasantly surprised by the playing conditions this weekend. Greens were in good shape, fairways a bit thin but playable. Back nine is one of the best in Orange County. Worth the green fee in my opinion.

I don't have a whole lot to add - the comments just prior to mine pretty much sum it up. Although perhaps I can add some more recent info on the condition of the greens: They evidently have healed up quite nicely. I thought they were just fine - held all shots well, putting was true and medium-fast. No complaints there. There were some pretty tight lies on some of the fairways - the fairways need some work and need to fill-in a bit. As for the rude staff....I'll be d%mn ed - people are not exaggerating!! Actually - John, the actual first-tee starter who sounded like he was from Texas was on-the-ball and a really nice guy - a real pleasure! But the rest of the pro-shop staff and marshalls acted like they had burrs under their saddles and pool-cues up their butts!! Lighten up, dudes! The bartender, Cheryl, was really cool, too! Nice lady! Overall the course was about a 6.5 out of 10.0 - Friday morning 9:30 A.M. start time - took 5.0 hours. Need more marshalls on the course - especially on the back side. Too many duffers looking all over for their lost balls! I must agree, the back side is as different as night is from day from the front! I lost more golf balls yesterday than I have in six months - and I'm not bragging, I just don't usually lose balls. Sheesh! I'm a 12.3 index - and I shot a smooth 40-48 (adjusted) = 88 - the back-side ate my freaking LUNCH!

Very pretty course. Not worth the $95.00 or the drive from Pasadena again - but - it I had a free pass - I might go again.

It's a good course that's in bad shape right now. The greens were just cross cut and need some time to heal. Still a very challenging course.

I've played this course a few times and must say the staff is tremenously rude. The course does get a lot of play so maybe they can be a tad rude. News flash, the course is not that great aside from picturesque back nine. The conditions vary from hole to hole and week to week. At it's best it's an 8 out of 10. Usually it's about a 6 to 7 out of 10. Expect very long rounds, lots of duffers and a rude staff. Want a similar course, try Coyote Hills. You'll get country club treatment.

First time at Tijeras Creek. Greens were in horrible shape...Wish they would have mentioned they were very recently aeriated.
Course itself provided an interesting challenge, but as a occasional slicer, the houses on the first 9 holes can play with your nerves.

First group out and started on #10 - it was surprisingly a bit wet through the first few holes given that we're in August. Course was playing in decent shape. Greens were not bad and speed was average.

this course is a bit over rated. i enjoyed the layout alot, but the greens need to be cut again and again, they were very shaggy and entirely way to slow. for the price of the green fee, it would be nice to have greens the rolled well. aside from that i would like to play there again, as long as i knew the conditions of the greens.

Heat is taking it's toll on the creek. Lots of ripped up areas on the course. About half the greens were punched with small holes. Their tee sheet was empty, so they sent out an email to play for $45. Good rate for the shape course is in right now. But not worth $80. Arroyo Trabuco is in much better shape right now.

Played for the first time here 7/16/05 tournament. First 9 holes ,coutry club style.Flat, surrounded by homes but from 10th holes begin hilly styles layout passing hills, creeks & forest.Tee boxes generally good but some holes are beated & uneven.Fairways are good conditions with lots of divots(my ball placed 3 times inside of divots, fortunately?). Greens seems high level itself but so many ball marks not repaired & bad repaired most bumpy & medium speed, not fast as expected. Well marked yardage on the ground but their $90+ weekend greenfee surely need GPS system.Only I would play twilight rate.

Just like the previous comments have said -- GREAT COURSE. Fun but not totally overwhelming if you play smart. Greens easy to read but if you keep to the cardinal rule of staying below the hole you will have easy uphill puts. Two different nines. Didn't know what that really meant until I played here. Back 9 more fun with front 9 more of a challenge. Overall very happy with course but bunkers could use some help. Those pot hole bunkers are killers if you dont know how to follow through but sand or something needs to be added instead of the concrete we were forced to hit out of.

Not the usual creek experience this time out. Played Friday, July 1st. First $35 creek card time (3:30). They were 30 minutes behind. Very slow play. Greens and tee boxes were in bad shape, but here's the caveat...they're prepping for the SCGA Amateur July 8-10. So, they're saving the "good" tee boxes for the tourney. So, blues and whites were hitting from same tee box and they are all hacked up. They're letting the greens grow long so they can cut 'em just before the tourney. Lightly sanded, too, or fertilized. So, crappy tee boxes and bumpy, slow greeens. Don't go back til after the tourney.

We were first group out after a tournament on Friday, June 10th. Played in four hours. Course is in great shape. Only sign of fairways being aerated was on 11. Other than that, good shape. Staff was polite. Sirloin burger in bar good. Onion rings bad!

First off, kudos to John & Greenskeeper.org for putting on a great tournament. Golfers were treated first class the whole way, with range balls, free drinks around the course, plus delivered, a nice little intro on the first tee and a very well run touranament. I encourage everyone to not miss the next one. Course was in great shape from tee to green. Sand traps were in great shape, and I speak from way to much experience. Two completely different nines, with the back nine being much tougher. You actually feel like you are at a different course, it is very secluded. Only minor issue I thought the greens were a little slow, and a little firm. Again, though, a great day of golf

Played 6/5/05 in Greenskeeper tournament and had a good time playing a top notch course and meeting fellow members. Thank you Johnny GK. From tee to green this place well maintained. I found the bunkers way to often and can verify sand quality is good. For future Greenskeeper outings, fellow members come on out and enjoy.

I had to get out and try Tijeras Creek Golf Club before the Greenskeeper.org Tournament, Sunday, June 5th.

This was my first time playing Tijeras Creek Golf Club and I really liked the service, clubhouse, practice facilities, playing conditions, but most of all, the layout. It’s a tale of two nines with the front nine relatively flat, carving its way through homes, with somewhat forgiving fairways that entertain many strategically placed bunkers, hazards, and mature trees, fair yet well protected undulating greens, some intimidating par 3’s with forced carries over water, some great scoring opportunistic par 5’s, and a solid mix of par 4’s. The back nine, well, it’s just incredible. A great mix of holes with some spectacular par 3’s, tricky par 4’s, and an overall layout that’s a bit shorter then the front nine but more hilly and challenging. It’s carved into the natural terrain beautifully and in such a way you sort of lose yourself on it. I mean you really get a sense of seclusion while being completely caught up in the thought provoking holes. Look out although for some blind shots and hidden hazards. Make sure you take a little extra club when in doubt because the large majority of trouble fronts the greens. As good as the front nine is, it’s the back nine that will keep you coming back over and over to play this course.

Regarding the playing condition, this is a very well maintained golf course with the lush fairways topping the list. The greens were in good shape but a little soft and bumpy in spots. The tee boxes due to their small design did show considerable divot damage on a few par 3’s but over all were level and lush. The rough was lush, cut at a forgiving 1 to 2 inches yet still defined the fairways well. The sand traps all contained high quality sand and were well kept. Overall, the course is in great shape and only going to get better over the next month as they prepare it for the SCGA Championship on July 8-10th.

The course is in awesome shape. Greens were perfect. Just cut this morning. Very true. Fairways were cut nice and tight. Rough is pretty short right now. Last time out the rough was at least 2 inches. Now very short. Only complaint is most of the sand in the traps was very wet. They're watering a lot due to the heat. The greens will be awesome for the tournament!

Another good day at Tijeras. Unfortunately Creek Card $35 rate after 2pm goes bye bye May 1st. Too good to be true. Greens were bumpy; especially on front nine. Fairways great. Sand in bunkers pretty consistent. Marshalls are very considerate.
