Played this afternoon...definite difference from the early round at another course.

This is a resort course. Packed in people, short-er holes, slow greens. Course layout was okay, pace of play was 4 hours even (and that was with us being paired with a solo player who took a nap in between shots).

Course was damaged by the recent rains....still flooded in a lot of areas so that didn't help either. Fairways had good coverage, rough was very thin and playable out of. Bunkers were soft on top and concrete on bottom as soon as you hit. Greens were the worst part...almost all raised to where you couldn't see how to hit the shot and were very firm (not receptive). Just not my cup of tea. Probably will not be back for this one...especially at PGA West prices.

Played the Dunes course yesterday after their opening on November 1 and was paired with a guy named Joe and his 2 adult sons named Sonny and Rory both very nice young men. Joe and I rode together and the kids rode together. Weather was beautiful at 83 degrees and the course looked beautiful only drawback was CPO which was expected and I wanted to get use to CPO as my home course opening on Saturday will be CPO for the next couple of weeks. Check in was simple and I hit a few balls and off we went, Joe and I played the white tees while the young guys played back one which I think was green. As expected everything’s nice and level fairways are green and great, and they rebuilt all the greens here and there are a lot more undulations than I remember. Back in August they had a storm come through and there is still remains of some water and rough parts closer to the hillsides and that it only comes into play if you are really off the fairway. Green side bunkers are excellent but some fairway bunkers have a little bit too much sand so beware of that. Greens are really quick right now and probably will be for awhile but all in all it was great to play here again. They now have trackmans near the restaurant area but I didn’t inquire too see what the cost if any was. Definitely recommended anytime of the year

Played the Dunes course yesterday May 2 with Michelle and her 2 friends Shawna and Jaime. After a simple check in we hit a few warm ups and today it was grass so after a few and some putts, we were all set. First let me say I love to play any course at PGA West ( yes even the stadium) because I feel they always treat you like you’re a member and they are so nice. I teed off from the whites while the ladies teed off from the red tees. There are some elevated greens here and if you are short the rough awaits you. Fairways in fantastic shape and fairly wide so one can just let it rip. The ladies thought the course was a little tough and I said I think this is the easiest of all the courses here at PGA West and they all shook their heads in disbelief. Water on many holes some with carries and others where water is on one side of the fairway. Tee boxes all were nice and level and divots filled in. Didn’t see any ball marks on greens which is good, as for the greens I thought they were smooth, firm and quick but not fast. The more I play it the more I like it and it is quickly becoming one of my rotating courses. I was not in bunkers today but it did look great firmly packed. I enjoyed playing with the ladies today because they are fun to play golf with and they are pretty good players. I always highly recommended playing here.

Rode the Blacks (6578/72.4/134) on a GN "Hot Deal" mid day. Played with Bill, a retired actor who has a home @ PGA West. Recognized him from many shows/movies/commercials over the years. Probably 80ish, but serious about his golf game! POP was under 3.5H on a not busy course. Sunny, breezy and in the mid 90's. Practice facilities here are very good. Chipping green, putting green and grass range with complementary balls. Customer service was top notch from everyone encountered. No drink cart today, but complementary water is provided with your cart that has nice GPS. Very friendly Starter/Marshall out patrolling who was proactive in checking on every pass. Rakes back in traps. Tees were lush, only the par 3's needed divot repair. Fairways had some areas very lush and some areas that were beginning to get baked. Primary Bermuda rough has good coverage mowed down, but still hit and miss. Numerous areas of native rough are unplayable, knee deep where it is an almost sure lost ball. Sand traps were nicely raked with good quality sand. However, they were crusty and too firm to be trying to stop balls on rock hard raised greens. Bermuda greens putted medium speed and were somewhat bumpy. The were HARD, not firm and have almost no ball marks. This is the least favorite Dye course I have ever played. And it is definitely the poor step child of the PGA West public courses. However, still a solid layout and a deceptively difficult course IMO. I come back only when I get a real deal, which I did today. Recommended.

So I played here for my first time less than 2 weeks ago. I have played pretty much all the PGA WEST courses other than Palmer Private and WOW! why have I been putting this one off. The course was so enjoyable and great shape and the price was Awesome I came back a few day's ago again to play. POP the first time was right on 4 hrs teeing off at 740am. The second time the starter was pushing everyone out pretty quick and was slow and the round pushed 5 hrs. This was probably the ONLY negative thing to say about the course. The practice facility was tip top with many different options, customer service was great and the cart girl each round I seen at least 3 times. Tee Boxes from the Tips were great. Very few bare spots. fairways were lush on the front and the back were great but not as great as the front. Greens were in immaculant condition but a bit slow here and there but awesome, rolled true. No ball marks. The rough is what you expect this time of year in Palm Springs area. I have been telling everyone to get out now for $69 it is a steal and enjoyable.

Had an 11:33 TeeOff.com “Deal” time here today for a great price of $45 after 15% off promo code. Bag drop and check-in went smoothly, and then I walked over to the practice putting green for about 10 minutes (at the most), only to return to the staging area to find that my cart was missing (along with my bag including my wallet and keys and my camera bag). I told one of the outside attendants, and I am so impressed with how vigilantly they jumped into action. He first grabbed a new cart and drove me down to the range to see if someone had mistakenly taken the wrong cart, but my bag wasn’t there. He radio’d to the starters on both Mountain and Dunes to have all players check that they had the right carts, and we still couldn’t find it. He said maybe a food & beverage employee accidentally used the cart without noticing there were clubs on it, but a few minutes of investigation found that wasn’t the case, either. By this point I’d missed my tee time and was beginning the process of freezing my credit cards when they finally located my bag and brought it back to me. Crisis averted!

Evidently some idiot who was renting clubs somehow thought my cart and my clubs were his rental set. I was so happy that they weren’t stolen, I didn’t even check to make sure everything was still good, but then when I was on the first fairway, another attendant drove out to me and gave me two additional clubs that had been removed from my bag by this dolt. Oh, another employee gave me a couple free bottles of Gatorade as a “make good” before I teed off, too. (Even though it wasn’t the course’s fault at all.) And one other impressive point, one guy said they have video of that staging area, and he was already contacting the person in charge of it to figure out what happened to my clubs. All in all, excellent service from everyone involved. I ended up teeing off in the 11:51 group with two cool guys visiting from Seattle. POP was good… minimal waiting all day and we finished in just over four hours.

If you're the idiot who took my cart reading this: Pull your head out, you dumba$$! (Or at least apologize when you pull such a boneheaded move.)

Conditions are pretty good but not great for this time of year. The course probably looks better than it plays by just a bit. Greens are excellent, smooth, firm yet accepting of full shots, and medium-fast to fast. Fairways look good from afar but when you’re on top of them it seems the overseed didn’t take all that well. There’s good coverage but they’re not “desert high-end resort post-overseed lush,” if that makes sense. The rough comes in two varieties: Dormant bermuda that is thin and easy to play from, and then further off line are nasty, thick, tall grasses about a foot deep that you absolutely do not want to be in. Black tee boxes were good. Bunkers were good, not great. No rakes.

Didn’t remember how difficult Dunes is; it beat me up all day today. Clearly a step down from Mountain, but still a decent course.

Played La Quinta Dunes course last Saturday 8/15, early morning. 6:45am start with a POP of 3:50. Pretty great. But man, was it HOT!!!! Started off humid, cloudy, and a little breezy, then the sun came out and it was 105* by 11am. When we got back to our VRBO house, it was 119*. Made sure to jump in the pool...

On to the course -
What a great track! Tee boxes a little beat up, but fairways were great, rough was thick in spots, but playable, and greens were great. The bunkers were even in good shape. You can tell they take good care of the course.

The only knock is how some holes play thru the drainage channels. I guess this is common in the Valley, but I’ve never liked it.
Overall course was great, POP was great, and I’d definitely return if staying in the area.
Recommend.

Played Sat 11/23, 8am shotgun. Course in fabulous shape. Carts off the path. Greens running a quick 10. I played here like 20 years ago, and it seems like I remember a different course. Someone mentioned they did some renovation on it a while back. It has a lot of character... with the bunkering and the waste areas. Definitely a challenging course with water and bunkers throughout. Top notch course with a top notch facility.

Rode the Blacks (6578/72.4/134) using Forelinx mid morning. The POP was painful, almost 5H with CPO. Matched up with 3 nice super seniors playing the Silver tees. Two were pretty good, the other finally quit after 10 holes with at least a dozen balls in water hazards to that point. The weather was sunny, breezy and close to 90. The over seeded tees were lush, only the par 3's needed divot repair. The over seeded fairways were lush and nice to play from. Numerous areas of native rough are unplayable, knee deep where it is an almost sure lost ball. The primary rough is dormant Bermuda, good coverage but still hit and miss. The over seeded first cut of rough around the fairways and greens is lush and usually nice to play from. The sand traps were nicely raked and decently maintained with good quality sand. The over seeded greens putted medium fast. They are reasonably smooth, firm and have almost no ball marks. Practice facilities here are good, unfortunately the grass range was closed for over seeding today. The customer service was top notch from everyone encountered. Drink cart out making the rounds and complementary water is provided with your cart that has nice GPS. Very friendly Marshall out patrolling who was proactive in upgrading one of my playing partners to disability status so he could drive onto the fairways. Recommended.
