Played here this morning teed off at 9 am lots of people here today. Played as a foursome with 2 ladies another gentleman and myself our pace of play was 4 hours 10 minutes. My playing partners were local folks and they play here often during the summer months as it is fairly expensive in season. Marriott courses are always in great shape and this was no different, I prefer this one over the Palm because of the rolling fairways plus I like the layout of many of the holes that goe left to right and right to left. There are a few holes that have water like 5 and 14 that make you think a little bit but I like them. The course is in good shape nice and green with a few brown areas off to the side. Bunkers nice and smooth as I was in a few and the greens really rolled well. Fairways are in good condition and if catch some of the downhill like on the 1st ball hole ball rolls out another 20 yards. This is a course I could always play because of the variety of holes. The resort is big and beautiful but now you need a wristband to gain pool access but the resort and course is great. Definitely recommend

Played 5/21/22 @ 12p on a teeoff.com deal. Course was great like usual, but the greens were rolling really slow for some reason. This is one of my favorite courses in the desert so my review is a little biased. Tee boxes were level with some par 4s being uneven, but a level spot is easy to find. Fairways were really nice and green with great coverage. Rough not very penal unless you're way off and then you got other things to deal with. Sand traps were nice and fluffy, but I think if you play earlier they would have been probably played different since they water this course a lot. Greens are another story, I'm used to them being a whole lot faster than they were, but they were rolling good at least. A couple of them rolled better than they looked because of some patches and some contrasting colors. It was a busy day and I was happy to see the resort was fully opened, it was depressing seeing such a beautiful resort empty and closed during COVID...

Arrived at Avondale planning on using an Underpar voucher early before it got hot. Only to find the course closed all week for maintenance. Probably explains why I could not reach the pro shop 2 days in a row? So drove down the street to Marriott Desert Springs, figuring I could get on 1 course or the other. Had not even checked online for tee times/rates yet. Right place, right time? Approached in the parking lot getting my clubs out of the car. Hey, are you playing in the tournament? No. Is your handicap between 9-16? Yes, a 12. Our B player could not make it. If you have not already paid, want to play in our tournament? Sure. My teams "A" player was a college golfer and man did she have a short game. She lobbed EVERYTHING and did it well. Over 4H POP, waiting on most shots. Overcast, muggy, fairly calm and in the low 100's. Fun time. Bermuda tees were lush and nicely maintained. Level with hardly any unfixed divots. Bermuda fairways were mostly lush and well maintained. Mostly okay to play from with some thinner areas. Bermuda rough was decent. Close to the fairways is long enough for the ball to sit down. Away from the fairways you could get hardpan to calf deep. Sand traps were better than usual here. Fluffy sand, just need more of it. Nicely raked. Bermuda greens were firm with few ball marks because of the firmness. They putted medium speed and were relatively smooth for Bermuda. Customer service was very good as usual here. Ample water stations every few holes on the course. Beverage cart around numerous times. Carts have GPS. All grass driving range included in your fee is a +. Fun course in very playable condition for early summer. Recommended.

Played here on Thur 4/15. The course in my opinion is not as attractive as the sister course (The Palm.) I do have a beef with the management, they had recently "fertilized" the greens. This entailed heavy use of sand, similar to aeration. No mention of this at check in or when we made Res & no price break. $100 course? That's up to the individual, but with sandy greens defiantly not worth it, especially with so many other targets nearby. Check in was easy, usual Covid precautions. Divot fixer is on carts & I believe it's doing wonders. Tee Boxes; As good as they get! Fairways: Excellent also. Like i said above seeded divot mix made for a near perfect carpet out there. Still good runout, just great. Rough; It's a resort course, so nothing too tough, but coverage near perfect. Greens: Dismal! Sand covered "Fertilized" greens slowed putts way down. GPS on carts. 9*30 start time, POP seemed really slow, but finished in about 4:30. No cart girl, or never saw one. Snack shack & seemingly entire course was closing at 2*pm. We chose to hit up the Yardhouse instead, a really good choice. Overall, not a really challenging course was dumbed down considerable because of the poor condition of the Greens. If your playing it soon, check on Greens first. If not for the Greens, nice enough resortish style course. GT

Played 1/6/21 at 1152 with teeoff prepaid deal. Check in was a breeze. The hotel is closed down due to COVID, it’s a shame because it’s a magnificent resort. Not too many people playing, but having 2 courses really helps out with crowd control... Tee boxes level and a little lush, they were mowing them though. Fairways were carpet and were a joy to hit from. Rough just a little longer than the fairway and is not very penalizing unless you get way off, then it gets thick and nasty. Sand traps were awesome! They shaved the areas around the traps and it gives it a brown/gold color along the borders of the traps. It’s a nice contrast with all the green everywhere. Traps were great to hit from and the sand was nice and fluffy. Greens rolled great, but they were the only thing that wasn’t deep green in color on the course. It is a resort course so it won’t beat you up... A great way to either start or finish a golf trip with- it’s reasonably priced and is always in great condition. One of my favs!

Was scheduled to play the "Valley Side" in the early morning first but there was a Frost delay for both Courses (Palms Side) as well. Once they opened both Courses were opened I was excited to see that the condition of the Course was in Fantastic shape. Very Green fairways and Rough. The bunkers I was in had plenty of Sand. Greens were absolutely great, a little slow but great. FYI, the Cold weather in the desert is causing "Frost Delay" for some courses so check with your Pro shop attendant when making your tee time. We still had time to play an additional 18 holes so we jump to the "Palms" side after our first 18 on the Valley side. The Palms side is more friendlier than the Valley side.

Rode the Blacks (6627/71.9/130) 2H, 45M super twilight. Conditions were clear, fairly calm and in the low 100's. The Bermuda tees were lush and nicely maintained. Level with hardly any unfixed divots. The Bermuda fairways were mostly lush and well maintained, nice to play from. The Bermuda rough is decent. Close to the fairways is long enough for the ball to sit down. Away from the fairways you could get hardpan to calf deep. The sand traps were mediocre. Nicely raked but most are too thin and/or compacted. The Bermuda greens were mostly healed from a recent vericutt, they were firm with few ball marks because of the firmness. They putted medium speed and were relatively smooth for Bermuda. The customer service was very good as usual here. Ample water stations every few holes on the course, but no on course beverage cart today. Carts have GPS. All grass driving range included in your fee is a +. Fun course in very playable condition for mid summer. Recommended.

We played the Valley course for the second round of our Underpar Voucher on Sunday. Good course conditions here. Not a lot of difference between the two course, IMO. Medium fast greens, nice fairway and rough, tees level. Once again, the sand here was in need of a refresher. It was damp and packed, making me struggle with my sand game. Overall, it was a very enjoyable second round as we were paired up with a lovely couple who brought with them a bar in their golf bags. Lots of free drinks from those two. Thanks! I'll not be doing that again soon.

Played the Valley course on the second part of our Underpar Voucher yesterday. In my opinion the valley course is the lesser of the two courses at JW Marriott. However it is not a bad course. Valley has more undulation as the palm has more hazards. Conditions were identical to Palm with the greens being much better. They did not have the strange mower marks and were firm with a medium pace. Fairways, tee's, and rough were fantastic just like Palm but the bunkers were bad as well.

Valley is shorter and offers more opportunities to cut corners and score but most greens are surrounded by bunkers and/or water. I do recommend playing the valley but give the choice to only play one I'd choose palm.
