By far the most pristine course I have played since I started golfing... I was not a fan of the layout... The layout was just kind of boring and meh.. The course didn't fit my game.. but that is not the courses fault! Just the desert and super tight fairways.. BUT the course was in super good condition.. The guys at PGA West do a really good job. The staff was nothing but really friendly.. T boxes were great, fairways were amazing, greens rolling pure, and bunkers had lots of sand... Awesome awesome course conditions with some real pretty views. I can't wait to play the other PGA West courses Congrats to the GKer that hit a hole in 1 on 17! This deserves a 9.1 on rated conditions.. don't understand how it comes up with the number!

Played the GK event with abbacat, sbogey and Teagal today. Was real nice to see fellow GKers and meet some new faces. While all of the PGA West courses are very different this is my favorite of the three so I was happy to hear Johnny chose this one. Course is in near immaculate condition. Such an interesting layout with no "rough" to speak of. I like how Norman has contoured the dirt (think it's decomposed crushed granite) to bring slightly errant balls back to the playing area. Tee boxes level, lush. Fairways flawless. Sand good and plenty. Greens smooth and barely a mark. Course is in the same condition through all four seasons. I've never seen it look any different than it has today. Gorgeous views and beautiful foliage. Just an exceptional course with phenomenal customer service. Highly recommended!!

Played in the GK Plays today and had a great time! Huge thanks to Johnny for organizing it and to all the sponsors for the great prizes, including my new 60° Cleveland wedge. Great seeing rob1563 and meeting Craig and Josh.

The course is in fantastic condition and very beautiful. I rated it 9s across the board. Greens are medium fast to fast and smooth, with medium firmness. Fairways were excellent. Rough doesn't exist except very sparingly here. Tee boxes were excellent. The one bunker I was in was very good. No complaints whatsoever on conditioning.

I had played here twice previously, but not since 2004. I really enjoyed the challenge presented by the tricky greens today. I also like some of the more unusual features, like the odd-shaped greens and greens that ran away from the approach. The only knock on the layout is that it gets a tad repetitive in spots, making the holes sort of run together in my memory. All in all I had a great time. Played in the GK event today on a nice weather afternoon 88 degrees light wind for 90 percent of the round. This course is interesting in the fact that the only rough on the course is a small strip around lakes and bunkers the rest is fairway or wasteland. It was a unique design but im not sure if i was a big fan of it.

Tee's- were nice and level lots of grass and limited divot damage

Fairways cut short and rolled for days which is a issue if not down the middle because there is no rough to stop it.

Rough- only very select areas only around bunkers and some lakes - decent shape very lucky if it stayed in the rough

Greens- quick and odd shaped, Some greens were large and left unprotected and some were no more than 10 ft wide and 80-ft long with pins placed in tough locations. Greens did receive shots well and if you are a spin player you could do some magic.

Overall it was nice to play here im not sure i would pay to play again as I like having rough instead of wasteland but very enjoyable with the group

COURSE was beautiful and challenging (played blues and course was still long).

1st time on this course, now it's my favorite of PGA WEST/La Quinta Resort

Played 10-3-15 12:45 POP 4:15 U.P. deal Course was in fine shape overall. The 6 rating seems low. I think it's more of 8 in conditions ? Fairway's green & appear lush, but were firm underneath and the grass really wanted to grab your club if you didn't sweep a little more the divot. And the summer Bermuda killed most of the roll out so you didn't get much more then what flew in the air. Greens ran well at medium fast speed and mostly true, but were not very receptive unless you really put some spin on the ball or landed with high soft shots. Bunkers.. many and the few I found were consistent and in good shape. IMO.. Of the 10 or so course's I've play in the P.S. area this has been my least favorite. It is definitely a 'Players' course. I enjoy a challenging course, but I didn't enjoy this course. If you can play it a few times, I think you can get a better appreciation for it. But The first time around ..Not so much. The greens are tiny with lots of undulations. I've never had that many double breaking putts on a course before. 'Pre' knowledge of the greens is imperative. Many have areas that slope away from you and since they are small. It doesn't take much of a miss to have the ball go off in some other direction far from the hole. Many are very narrow and angle away from you, so you are hitting to a 5yrd x 5yrd target from 150 out. A little miss equals a long difficult putt. WOW.. This course has A LOT of traps and many are right in your target line and EVERYONE OF THEM have huge lips on the back side. If you find a fairway bunker you are very lucky to do anything other then get back to the fairway. With the fairway's very narrow and hardpan DG/desert rough on both sides = tough & demanding T shots. If you're a low single digit handicapper you will likely enjoy the test this course gives more then the weekend golfer. Sorry to say I doubt I will be driving 2+ hrs. from San Diego to play this course anytime soon. Too many others that are 'fun' to play.

I played in a tournament on 9/19. The course was in pretty close to perfect shape, the rough obviously doesnt come into play because there really isnt any. Tee boxes were great, I was in two bunkers and they were nice to play out of. The greens were in great shape, as were the fairways, which is kind of surprising for this time of year. I always find that this course gets me using every club in the bag and takes driver out of your hand on a few holes, which is good.

The range was in good shape and I really like the short game area. It was tough to find a flat putt on the putting green though. While its not my favorite course at PGA West, I dont think I have ever not enjoyed playing this course.

Played the Blues (6671/72.8/133) on a Tee Off dot com special for $32.99. Don't care if it was 106 degrees, one of the better values I have ever gotten from an online tee time service to play this place for that price. First time playing here, played with GKer Mapa94 & Rusty in about 4H, 20M and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The tee boxes are lush, level and well maintained. The fairways are very lush. Almost too lush, I like to take my irons back low on my back swing, and the thick Bermuda was often catching my back swings before I adjusted. Hard to rate the rough here, because there basically isn't any. If you are on green it is mowed as fairway, every hole has a large amount of hard pan desert scape that basically is the rough here if you are off the grass. If you miss the fairway, good chance you ball is gone in the large amounts of bushes and native plants that ring every hole. The hard pan between bushes is so firm that the ball will almost assuredly end up in a bush, not on hard pan and playable. The sand traps are plentiful and well maintained. Numerous holes had 6-8 fairways bunkers that you need to avoid. The Bermuda greens here were much smoother and faster than the Westin Gary Player course that I played earlier. My overall rating for this course will be deceptively low because the greens are not completely healed from aeration 2+ weeks ago, or the rating would be even higher. Overall, this course is in unbelievable shape considering it is early August & the temperatures are above 100 every day. Almost every hole has a forced carry over desert scape, but the fairways are generous in size. After incurring penalty strokes because of errant drives on the first two holes, I hit the last 12 fairways, which even on a good driving day is ridiculous by my standards and skill level. I have now played all the of the public PGA West courses in the last 9 months. I liked the Nicklaus Tournament the best, but the Norman is a very close 2nd followed by the Stadium. The customer service throughout the staff was exceptional, nice grass range with complimentary balls, nice sand/chipping and practice putting areas that closely resembled the on course conditions. Cannot wait to come back and play here again!
