Played the Blues (72.2/134/6522) with mendel, Sixpex and Rat-Patrol in the GK outing. Have played multiple rounds with all, nice group to play with! The weather was cool, overcast, breezy and actually sprinkled for a few holes. Typical POP for a Sunday afternoon tournament, around 5H. Love the layout, one of my favorite in So Cal. Many raised greens, mounds along the side of fairways, large/deep bunkers and several split fairways are a characteristic of the course design. Holes 9/18 are both signature par 4's where the average golfer is going to be hitting a longer club into a double green where anything short or to one side is wet. #8 is almost an island green, and the front pin we played leaves little margin for error left, right or short. The tees were well maintained but had alot of late in the weekend divots. The fairways were lush and nice to play from. The rough was also lush and just deep enough to make longer club selection chancy. The sand traps are plentiful here. Large, many have decent size lips and need to be avoided in many cases because of the raised greens. They were mostly in good shape, well maintained. The greens were slower than they looked. Mostly firm and medium speed. Not a ton of break on most greens here. The cart gal was out making the rounds numerous times. Excellent customer service from everyone involved with the golf. Player assistants out trying to enforce POP. However, it is hard not to laugh or be insulted when you just had 15 minutes while you waited and repaired every divot on a par 3 tee box to pass the time and the Player Assistant comes up and admonishes your group for slow play? What are we supposed to do, hit short irons toward a green while the group in front of us is putting? The restaurant after the round was the low light of the day. Food okay but well overpriced @ $23 (after tax/tip) for a burger, fries and Arnold Palmer. Service was disjointed, slow and haphazard. The servers had no idea who ordered what and forget about getting a refill. Refused to write separate checks, said upfront it was up to us to figure out the bill among ourselves. Seemed like a convenient way to surcharge the mandatory 18% gratuity for large parties? Great course in very good to excellent condition. Definitely recommended, but I would eat elsewhere.

Headed to Palm Springs for the GK Plays at PGA West. We played the Nicklaus course and had a great time. Facilities are top notch with great service. The whole experience is enjoyable from the valet to the first teebox. Started on hole 5 for the shotgun starts and pace of play was fantastic, finishing in just over 4 hrs.

Course is in great shape and stayed great with the light showers all day. Fairways ran well and had no damage and harly any divots. Greens seemed medium speed, with a few on the faster side. They proved tricky for me to get good reads but weren't too bad once I got used to them. Chip shots were accepted well and you could even get a little spin on a well placed wedge shot. Tee boxes were lush and void of an significant damage. Sand traps were fluffy and not too taxing. All in all a great day at a great facility. We are headed back this weekend to play Norman and Stadium courses!

The only complaint I have is driving range was backed up pretty bad. At all times there were about 5 to 6 players waiting for stalls, even though there was another third of width left on the range. Also the tiny practice green seemed in rough shape but I'm assuming this is because of the amount of traffic they get on a daily basis.

Thanks Johnny for putting on a great event on 5/7. I really have not much to add about the conditions, I will leave that to those that are more knowledgeable in course architecture and agronomy. I want to thank Nicksquire, sixpez and rat-patrol for a wonderful afternoon. I also want to comment on the GK cup match between sixpez and rat-patrol. The camaraderie and sportsmanship between the two was a pleasure to see. It appeared like they were just out there for the outing and the fun, and the competition was secondary.

The other comments I have to make was when the marshall came by and said we needed to speed up. Uh, where were we supposed to go? Unless he wanted us to start hitting into the group ahead of us. What did he expect when he had something like 48 players starting at the same time on 6 holes, and we were the last group.

I noted that the dropzone on 8, that if you weren't very careful you were on a downhill lie. Not very fair for that approach angle to an island green.

Epic fail on the staff at Ernie's. I was never impressed with the place anyway. and try and avoid eating there when I do play a PGA west course. They always seem inattentive (even when there is not a tournament), and I really think they don't care cause it's the only place in PGA west to eat and have a drink (they are building a second clubhouse, maybe that will wake them up.)

Course conditions were Troon like quality, glad to see Troon has put GPS back in the carts. Above all had an awesome day, always great to play golf with fellow GK'ers.

We got lucky with the weather, was in the 60s with lots of cloud cover, at times was a little windy but nothing too bad. I was paired up with my friend Nathan along with Rob and Gus who were great playing partners, was a lot of fun!

As far as conditions go I don't have much of anything to complain about. The tee boxes were lush and provided great lies, fairways were perfect, rough was amazing, bunkers had good sand but were tough to get out of. Greens were in fantastic shape. They held shots well but were firm enough to prevent huge ball marks and rolled very true. Would love to play here again now that I know a little about the layout and strategy. Lots of bunkers and water around the course.

Played here on Sunday with the GK Event, what a day! The weather was very strange for this time of year out there but in my opinion, it was perfect. We had some rain (drizzle) and very little wind. Cloudy which is perfect to play some golf in, beats 100 degree weather. Was paired up with my girlfriend and Bill and Kathy, very fun group! Kathy and Bill are great!

Tee Boxes - Very level, in great shape and very little marks on the tee boxes. I really enjoyed hitting off these boxes, so much that I am going back Saturday to play two more rounds!

Fairways - A little hilly of a course, lots of trouble left and right. Huge bunkers surrounding the greens/fairways, you must be very accurate off the tee otherwise this course will eat you up.

BUNKERS - Holy cow, there are a lot of bunkers on this course. The sand was great, but if you hit into a fairway bunker good luck getting out. Some of them are 15-20 feet vertical to get out, I had my fair share of bunker shots to say the least. The sand was a little wet since the rain, but besides that they were great to hit from.

Greens - Greens were a little firm, but they rolled very true. Pretty quick going down hill and pretty consistent going up hill.

Overall I love this course, comparing it to the Norman one we played last year, I would choose the Norman one. That is me being picky though, you can't go wrong with playing this course. We are going back this week to play the Stadium and the Norman course. I will be back for my Revenge on this course, now that I know its Bunker city.

I've been spoiled lately playing at Torrey North, Rams Hill and PGA West Nicklaus for my GK Cup matches the last few weeks. To me the Nicklaus course looked a lot like the Stadium course but much smoother, not so many geometric angles, etc. A very fun course in really nice condition, tees, fairways and greens all pretty consistent (although I just couldn't make any putts and didn't at the Stadium course either at the same time of year, bermuda?). The bunkers and green side rough were the only inconsistent areas that made scoring a bit tougher. I really liked the course, unfortunately started off going all Mickey Mantle so only saw the left side of the course on many holes. Nice facility, great course, beautiful warm-up area, top notch all around, a "players" course. * Not sure why my rating came out so low? I would put it a full point higher.

Man, this is a tough course. Luckily I had Vic, Mattias and Roman with me to have a great time and laugh our way (mostly) through the pain. There's no shortage of trouble at just about any turn on this course. It's tricky off the fairway with tons of bunkers, crazy mounds, water and those pesky [bad word] canals of sand and mayhem bisecting many of the fairways.

Think your second shot will be easier? No d%mn chance. More bunkers! More waste areas! More water! And once you get to the greens, they're tricky as all get out (although on this particular day not as scary fast as I anticipated - likely thanks to the rains).

Conditions, as only around 100 others have already mentioned, were pretty top notch. Great coverage on the fairways, same with the rough, and greens in excellent shape. Tee boxes were pretty much immaculate and the only possible knock was a tiny bit of the bunkers, but that can also be attributed to the wet stuff coming from the sky - made some a little difficult to work out of when jammed.

Layout was very challenging - goes without saying. Usually people get excited about par 5s as they're a great chance to score - unless you're playing PGA West's 15th hole - talk about a beast! But there are plenty of others (like #9) that will require your absolute best to score well. There are no gimmees here. Anywhere.

Great day out with the GK group and happy to finally start recognizing and greeting so many more fellow golfers after now having been with the group for a while. Hope the new folks that came by for this event had a great time and will continue signing up for more.

The PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course has been on our list to Play for a long time. Even with the damp weather and slight wind the course did not disappoint. It was a beautiful day in the desert. The mounds and low areas along the fairways and greens were tough but fair. If you kept in the fairway you would be in great shape. Just don't get caught in a sand trap. The sand was good (a little heavy due to the rain) but they are big and deep! All in all a great day of golf. Thank you GreensKeeper.org and PGA West Staff!!

Thank you Johnny for another great event and to PGA for hosting. This is a top-notch facility which we have golfed over a dozen times. The Nicklaus course is especially challenging with many of the the fairways raised and a lot of run off that tests your sidehill lie skills. Tee boxes were decent with some signs of wear on a few holes but then again like everything that I will comment on here… This is a very heavily played course. That taken into consideration, it was in excellent shape as always. Fairways good the whole way through, again just a few areas with some signs of a decent amount of divots. Most were filled however & the ones that weren't were probably from the days earlier play. Send was good and although it was damp and raining still decent to get out of. Just a few small rocks throughout the traps, which is a bit of a peeve of mine. Greens were in very good shape, a little slower than usual but that is probably attributed to the dampness and playing later in the day. Rough, excellent and at a good height. Actually pretty easy to hit out for once! All in all a nice day at PGA as always. Very much enjoyed seeing everyone and playing with Tim and Wendy. Sorry we couldn't stay after the round. Long drive home and had to get up super early. Till next time...
