First round of a 36 holes day began at Indian Wells Golf Resort Celebrity Course with fellow GK Gurus. The Celebrity Course is one of my favorite layouts anywhere. Not only for its sheer beauty (see photos I just posted) but for its fun risk/reward shots, challenging yet not unfair greens, challenging bunkers and reward for being able to shape your shots. The sight lines off the tee box are gorgeous and the approach shots exciting to play. The clubhouse/facilities are one of my favorites. Such a modern/grand/clean feel as some of the reviews below go into greater detail. And as for the service. 5 stars, every time.

As far as the conditions… place is wall-to-wall lush green rye grass. Stunning. Greens although a little slow rolled smooth, true, holding shots. Remember that although the greens might be running slower than normal, they are still firm so play your pitch shots to release. Bunkers are near perfect with excellent sand and perfectly groomed. Fairways, well, perfect 10. Rough, lush, cut down a bit but still challenging, exceptional. Tee boxes, lush, level, in great shape. We teed off early morning at 7:00am so conditions were still on the wet side on the front nine but started to dry out nicely on the back nine.

I found out later that the food truck near the 10th tee box is open for breakfast starting at 6:00am. Man I wish I would have jumped all over that instead of grabbing a fast food breakfast. Hear the breakfast burrito was awesome. I’m a breakfast burrito guy.

Was a little disappointed the putting golf course was not open. Guessing its only open for the Shots In The Dark experience this time of year (which is by the way a blast. Laser light golf games with music.) If I was spending that night there I would have experienced it again.

You can never go wrong playing Indian Wells Golf Resort. It’s a bucket list golf experience IMO. Highly Recommended.

Overall: The Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort is a stunning combination of beauty and strategy. Most of the holes are oriented east/west on the front nine and north/south on the back nine ... this allows the golfer to take full advantage of the scenic views of the San Jacinto, Santa Rosa and San Bernardino mountain ranges. Finally, Eisenhower Mountain stands tall to the south of the resort. Clive Clark (the course architect) was able to craft a course that takes advantage of these views and added scenic water features and areas of wildflowers.
The Celebrity Course is one of two courses at the Indian Wells Golf Resort ... with the Players Course being the other half of the 36 holes at the resort. The resort overseeded the Celebrity Course wall to wall, while the Players Course was primarily overseeded to represent a desert course. It is a nice contrast for the resort guest.
Was very fortunate to play with Brian, Nick and George on a beautiful morning in the Coachella Valley. Temperature was about 55 degrees and not a cloud in the sky for our 7:20 am tee time. The 4 of us had a lot of fun playing together and we enjoyed each others company.

Clubhouse: This is the 5th time that I have played at Indian Wells Golf Resort and it is still one of my favorite clubhouses. Great idea by taking the coffee bar away and doing a food truck outside ... it allows for a much quicker turn around for the back nine. The pro shop is huge, well stocked and is merchandised very well. All of the players assistants (inside and outside) were very friendly.

Course: As always, the Celebrity Course was in great shape. The fairways were in very nice shape and the rough was about an inch deep and was very dense. The greens looked very fast and were in great shape, but they were definitely not as fast as they normally are. My only negative comment was the amount of pitch marks on the greens on the front nine ... the back nine greens were in much better shape with regard to that. Very sad to see that the golfers in general can't repair their ball marks. I was not in a bunker, but the sand looked very good.

Final Thoughts: I want to thank John for a tremendous morning at the Celebrity Course. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your efforts in working with these different courses so that we have the opportunity to play courses that so many people read about in all of the golf publications. You make it a reality for all of us in the GK community. Thank you again John!!

My dear GK Guru's, I thought that Rams Hills Golf Club was great. My goodness, from all of the GK outings that I have participated BY FAR, BY FAR Indian Wells Celebrity is my number 1 golf course.

As you driving in there is not much to see "don't take me wrong the city is beautiful, people are very nice and friendly but boy the traffic lights take so long to change".

But all that change when I got in the resort, I couldn't believe it what I was looking at. I was like a child a Disneyland. First of all, they have two 18 mini putting areas that you can play and practice your putting skills (which I will like to take my boys to), they have two driving range with Callaway practice balls and a nice good size putting green that looks like carpet. The ball was rolling beautiful in the practice green and I was wondering if it was the same out in the golf course.

Our tee time was at 7:00AM and I played with my guru's buddies (Gary, Johnny and Ron). Now, let me tell you my dear GK Guru's here is my experience at the Indian Wells Celebrity (I wish, I was able to add photos so that you can understand what I just experienced). The first tee was "AMAZING" the fairway was sooo green and beautiful that I knew I was going to load up my phone with photos. Even the rough was well kept and fairway sand bankers, bankers surrounding the green which made more fun. I didn't care if my ball landed on the rough or sand traps. The lay out of the golf course amazing: as you are hitting the ball from the tee, fairways rough, sand traps and every where you see is mountains with snow tower the greens. I was just enjoying the views and the golf course lay out "Just Perfect". There were times that I didn't wanted to ride the golf cart and just walk the course.

If you have not play this golf course and GK has a golf outing here again "YOU MUST GO" trust me your time and money will be sooo worthy. Every tee was green, debits well kept, very level and there where just like a carpet, the fairways in excellent conditions, sand traps "as much as hate get in them" were just perfect. Full of sand, well raked and challenging to get out of them. I did hit a few of them but I just enjoyed. Greens had a few old debits but they weren't a problem. The ball was rolling perfect.

By far Indian Wells Celebrity Golf Course my number one golf course. I will be coming back and play it again.

Rode the Blues 12/9/2019 GK Guru round 2nd group out at 7:10am with JohnnyGK, RGM2525 and Pedro7170. Weather was perfect warming up to low 70's hardly any wind. POP was comfortable at just over 4 hours. My first time playing here. My camera battery was low after this round after all the beautiful pics I took which I posted on my instagram. This course jumped into my top 3 courses I have ever played. It has character, beauty and I am sure my rating is going to come out close to a 9.5 or so on ratings. I just don't play enough courses this lush so for me it was like playing in a lush heavenly garden. Fairway ratings were a 9 out of 10. Mostly all lush lies, very few wet areas. Staff should be commended. Tees were beautiful. Level and lush. Rated 9.5/10. You can get lost here in a cart going from some tees to the next tee. Greens were soft. Holding irons well with spin. Putting very well even with some old ballmarks visible. Greens looked quicker than they actually were and it did take some getting used to get the ball to the hole or just past it. Green rating 8.5/10. Rough was generally uniform in length, green and lush. Not to penal. Rating 9/10. Was in greenside bunkers on 7 and 14 that were raked to perfection and in great shape. Just the right amount of fluffy sand to easily splash out of. Rated 9/10. Layout had some elevation changes, some nice dogleg holes a couple of water features and hidden lakes and enough bunkers to keep you on your toes. Good mix of tighter holes and some grip and rip holes. My favorite holes were 12 and 14 with 14 being my favorite on the course. I loved the back nine here. One of the better back nine's that I have played. Had the breakfast burrito in the morning(delicious) and the hotdog after the round at the food truck. Beautiful clubhouse. Putting course was closed but looked awesome. I asked Johnny when can we come back. Kudos to Indian Wells staff. Highly Recommended!

12/9 guru outing got to tag along with Mark, Keith, and Rob very enjoyable playing partners on a wonderful desert morning and a very scenic setting emerald green fairways, sparkling white bunkers and snow capped mountains as a back drop. !st off of the gurus with an easy 4 hr POP slowed only by looking for the occasional wayward shot. For a resort layout that looks very open there are dangers lurking in the bunkers some areas of penal rough and water!
Fairways are quite lush overall what with the over seeding providing good lies with good cushion. Lot of divots visible with most filled in(saw a staff member out with the sand). Rough varied in length and thickness and could provide a challenge especially around the green and on the slopes. Played from the yellow tees (6339) and found them level with good cover. Bunkers were nicely groomed with soft but heavy sand.
Greens were quite lush and were slower than they looked and were quite challenging to read. Maybe having a plaque beside each green that pointed to Indio might have helped but I swear(not out loud during the round)there were putts that broke both ways on some holes Quite a few pitch marks many poorly or unrepaired again related to a resort setting.
Friendly staff easy check in quality range balls on a grass range and interactive GPS.

Rode the Yellow tees (6349/70.7/128) with GK Guru's Dave, Brian & George early morning. Fun group to play with! The weather was calm and sunny. Cold when we started a little after 7 but had warmed up to perfect conditions by the time we finished a little before noon. Beautiful, tougher than average layout. Constantly up/down hills and the large green complexes are challenging. Fourteen par 4's with only two par 5's and two par 3's = par 72. Normally, that hole mix would be a detriment, but the par 4's here all have a different feel/look, good mixture of longer and risk/reward holes to keep things fun and interesting. This course would be a beast to walk as numerous holes are a long way from the last green. The over seeded tees were lush with few divots. No challenges getting level lies. The over seeded fairways were very lush and provided excellent lies. The over seeded rough was very lush and not overly penal. The sand traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. The over seeded greens were good, but not great. They looked quicker than they were. They putted medium slow early morning and were up to medium speed by the end of the round. Not as smooth as previous visits here. Even though firm, they held well struck irons well. The customer service was exceptional as always here. Complementary range balls on an all grass range is always a plus. Cart person around numerous times. Excellent GPS on the carts. Very nice course in overall excellent condition. Highly recommended.

Played early morning round with a group of GK Gurus. Front 9 was still fairly damp mostly from heavy dew I am assuming. Greens tended to be wet/damp as well for the front 9 too. Tee boxes throughout were good to very good, as were the fairways. I noted that the greens on the front 9 were pock marked, although the ball marks had been fixed for the most part, they were still somewhat pock marked, oddly the greens were not on the back nine. Not too sure why, perhaps early morning rounds and the greens are softer then dry out a bit on the back. Most putts were not affected by that issue though, as most ran true and smooth. Speed today was a bit slow for most of our liking, they were running ok. Sand was good, lots of sand in bunkers, and well taken care of. Service, as usual at this course, was excellent. We had to leave right after the round and asked that the clubs be sent up right away and they did just that, almost before we got up top ourselves. This course is usually always in excellent shape, with 6 tee boxes to choose from. It tends to be a "rolling" course with lots of elevation changes and mounds, certainly on the front 9.

How about another shout out to "Johnny Gk". thanks again for putting this round together. Now about the course. Course was in Fantastic shape from tee to green. Great customer service as well as a very fine Driving Range. Greens were tough to read on breaks and speed but never the less what a Wonderful Course. Definitely a must to play for every golfer.

I was in the lead GK Guru group this morning and we teed off maybe a couple minutes before 7:00 on a beautiful day for golf. We enjoyed a nice relaxed pace. The sun came out and lit this place up. For my money, I don't think there's a more picturesque public course in the Coachella Valley!

Conditions, as always, were exceptional from tee to green. This place is ridiculously lush and perfectly manicured, it's such a pleasure to play. It was pretty soft and there was a lot of moisture, though, with some wet weather lately and plenty of watering overnight. Bunkers full of super soft/deep sand. The greens had quite a few old ball marks showing, but nothing that affected putts too much. They were definitely on the slow side, especially first thing in the morning when still very wet.

Always one of my personal favorites, so I enjoy any excuse to play here. Even better when in the company of the GK Guru crew!
