Great course...have played this course 5 times. I love the way the course is built into the natural landscaping. Since I last played there over a year ago, it looks like this course is still recovering from some damage from last yr rains, especially some of the tee boxes on the back 9 that are located in the hills. Some of the holes that are located near the base of the mountains show some erosion and many of the sand traps need some new sand put in...they were hard packed or just dirt. This damage however does not affect the play, but more the appearance. I would definitely return and hopefully this course will be able to handle another winter of rains. Course is a deal if you have a discount such as GolfExtra or Red Dot coupon.

Well...I had not played this course in a long time. I finally got talked into it last Saturday. I remember it being a tough layout. Still is. I remember it being a first-class golf facility. Well - not so much any more. We got a discount because they had just recently overseeded, which, this time of year, you expect here in So. Cal. - but - come ON, Troon Golf!! What's the story here?? There was trash all over the place! We got "free golf balls" on the range, but - not so fun when you have to find balls to hit and collect your own! The overseeding is one thing - but - the over-watering was inexcusable! Over-watering? Sheesh! It was a freaking QUAGMIRE, and I'm not bulls%$#@#ing! It was freaking FLOODED out there. "Casual water" is one thing - but it hasn't rained in over a month!! "Sand traps" were more like "water hazards". And, flooded fairways are one thing - but FLOODED TEE BOXES?? There's no excuse for that! Since it was "cart path only" on all of the holes (I'm not complaining about that - we were warned and got a discount on fees) - my golf shoes were as soaked as if I had played in a heavy rainstorm!! "Squish....squish....squish..." Just criminal! I'm not a professional greenskeeper, I don't even LIKE gardening - but - dear God - when does "watering the grass" become "Hmmm...let's make rice paddies"?? NOT a fun day! Greens were actually O.K. - then heed to be mowed and rolled as they were inconsistent (probably due to erratic watering patterns) - some fast - some slow - but - as you can probably guess - they sure held all shots well! Fairways, where you were not in ankle-deep water, were really not too bad - the new growth of "winter rye" (I'm guessing that's waht it is) is actually coming in nicely. If the water problem is allowed to soak in - the course may be back in tip-top shape. But - memo to Troon Golf - the empty Gatorade bottles and candy wrappers look awful! Oh - and a note about slow-play...if the course is listed as cart-path only - you better have a full five-hours to kill! We waited on EVERY shot - no b.s. There are better places to play - Goose Creek, Oak Quarry....heck - just about anyplace! It's been a week now. I wonder if my shoes are dry yet!

I've played this course dozens of times over the last 5 years and, I'm sorry to say, it ain't what it used to be. Troon Golf is definitely cuttin' corners with this place. I'll start by saying I'm not impressed by bells and whistles; I don't like to be pampered. BUT, used to be you were greeted warmly in the parking lot while unloading your clubs by a polite staff member who would volunteer to take your clubs and put them on a cart. Not any more. Used to be a starter who would tell you pin placements, local rules and ask if there was anything you needed before you started. Now, if you're lucky, there's a disinterested teenager who says "you gonna start now?" Used to be the range was grass and well taken care of with balls nicely stacked at each station. Now the range is hardpan and the balls, if there are any, are scattered about. I will say, thank god there isn't the overeager kid at 18th green waiting to wash your clubs (can't stand that), but it's a drag when you pull your cart up to the cart return and the teenager tries to drive the cart away before you can even get all your belongings out of it. So, what it comes down to, is they want you to pay $80 for $30 service. Happily, we only paid $40, and will never pay more (golf extra; golf passbook; red dot). The discounts are there. On to the course. They're already starting to tear it up for overseeding, so don't go out there for a month. They were running the big machines on the first fairway today, right next to players. The fairways were full of clumps of grass clippings, and, as others have stated, full of overwatered muddy spots. The greens were littered with unfixed ball marks, and the scars that come with them. Very sad. When you found a clear path to the hole to putt on, they did roll fairly true. Another thing, the brush area to the left of the fairway along the houses on #5 isn't marked with either green or white stakes so, what's the ruling if you hit it there and can't find it? No marshalls in sight, which doesn't really matter since pace of play was fine, even though a foursome was convinced that #11 tee was #2 and wouldn't listen to us otherwise. They tried to cut in front of us. Idiots. Man, I'm sure they were confused when they hit #18 but had only played 10 holes:-)! The setting is incredibly dramatic (best view from a clubhouse in all of so cal except for maybe Pelican Hill); the course well laid out. We'll be back; but it's sad to see the conditions go so far downhill. Don't pay full price. Final thought; young lady behind the counter in pro shop was very nice; cart girl was too, and she came around a lot.

The track is getting in better shape, the only thing that was not better was the ball marks on the green (and that's not the clubs fault) Last week a $35.00 green fee brought out everyone and their mothers. But not everyone fixed their ball marks. Otherwise the place in great shape. As many practice balls as you can hit are included with your green fees at a outstanding practice facility. Please next time fix your ball mark, and one for your mother.

Played 8/23/2005 for $35.00, customer appreciation days, well worth the price. Course was is good shape, greens were rolling true and holding most approaches. Course needs to do something about the difference between black and gold teeboxes. Black play approximately 7000 yds and gold is only 6200. Front nine from black is okay but the back nine gets ridiculously long. In a four hole stretch you have a 650 yd par 5 into the wind, a 441 yd par 4 uphill all the way, and 477 yd par 4 back into the wind. Most of us mortals can't get to these greens in regulation so we are hoping for a bogey or a miracle on each hole. Kind of ruins what could have been a good scoring day. Anyway a nice track worth the summer rate of $50.00 during the week or $70.00 on weekends.

Played Sunday 8/21 and surprisingly was not as hot as Ithought it would be and course in pretty good shape. Fairways brown in spots but grass was good and only a few overwatered areas. Greens have a lot of ball marks but rolled fairly true. Cutomer service very good letting us go out early as 2some starting us on 10 even offered to bring us our lunch from the restaurant when it was ready if we did not want to wait. Always a fun layout with lots of elevated tees with some breathtaking views. For $55 on a Sunday afternoon this course is hard to beat.

Well, I should have known after reading all the comments but I had to see for myself. I also wanted to check out the views & layout of this course but, aside from the beautiful views the course has MUCH to be desired and they should be ashamed to charge the green fees that they do during normal rates. I paid $40 for a sweltering hot (100+ degrees) twilight rate and I found the following conditions. First off, there are numerous ball marks that people don't fix on greens that were rather firm and dry due to the heat. We also found some missing turf on a few greens as well. If you look at the fairways they appear rather burnt out due to the heat but there are also quite a few mushy/overwatered areas in the fairways which allow your ball to plug and stop rolling rather quickly. The sand quality was like hitting off of concrete and you could not blast out of them so you had to clip the ball out. The best part of the conditions is the tee boxes are near perfection.

As far as the layout goes... the course offers many blind shots to quite a few elevated greens combined with narrow fairways and some forced carries over canyons. Definitely challenging but it also does not require you to bust out your driver on many holes due to the short length on the majority of the holes.

This course needs an overall makeover and the groundskeepers need to get busy... It may be too much to ask for though but at the rates they charge you'd think they could afford to get things back in more playable shape??

Eagle Glen has so much potential, but they don't seem to care about maintaining it. Interesting layout (maps or yardage books would be helpful with blind tee shots), beautiful views, and challenging holes. Hard, true greens that are slow and inconsistent with lots of ball marks. Lush fairways with wet patches and lots and lots of unrepaired divots. Can't find sprinkler heads for yardages b/c there are so many divots. Tee boxes were in good condition though the yardages can be lengthened - blues (gold) could be mid 6000 from 6200 and reds (jade) are ridiculously low at 4900.

Only because I got an internet special was this worth it. I would never pay full price. And Eagle Glen must be offering these discounts b/c they're cutting so many corners with the upkeep and staff. On Sunday afternoon in 95+ degree heat, we only saw the cart girl once, and all of the water coolers on the course were empty. Since the course doesn't go by the clubhouse at the turn, we were dying of thirst on the back nine. Ridiculous.
